okay, I admit it, I never drew a herm before XP ^^;
But anyways, the best trick I can give you is to look up other people's art to find a model that you'd like to learn from. Although it might not show -that- much, I learned a lot from a bunch of webcomics, namely Megatokyo, VG Cats, Altermeta, Twokinds, MacHall and Applegeeks. ^^
