Sol looked down to Tenrai as she squirmed in his grasp. She was trying to break away from him. To get to where those shots were fired. She didn't say that, but he knew. If it was any other person, he would have assumed they were squirming because they were scared,o r because they were trying to run away. Tenrai, though... She was different. He knew she wanted to fight, and that's exactly what he didn't want. She'd spent her life in pain and misery. Despite what most movies would have you believe, fighting didn't help at all. He didn't want that kind of life for her anymore. He wanted to give her a better one.
"Tenrai... Hold still" he told her, wrapping his arms around her in a hug/grip. He held her like that for a while, trying to get her to calm down. There weren't any shots fired after the initial few, and it seemed everything in the parade grounds had started to go back to normal. He sighed and reached a hand up to Tenrai's chin. He turned her head. "Tenrai... What you just tried to do was dangerous. I don't want you doing stuff like that anymore, alright?" he sighed and smiled as he ruffled her hair and patted her head.

Reid smiled as Mika clung to him and stayed close. He put an arm around her to keep her close as he took her into the the festival grounds. Some people looked cautious and wary. Had something happened before they got there? He cocked his head to the side before shrugging. If it already happened, then there was no need to worry about it, right? He walked with Mika, taking her into the section with all of the games. There were shooting galleries, ring tosses, goldfish catching, and many other things. He looked down to her. Though she was definitely not a kid, her personality made her seem like one. He wondered if she'd enjoy games like this. He decided he'd take a chance with it.
"We can start with these, Mika. Which one do you want to play first?" |

Tenrai stopped her squirming at the sounds of the distant police sirens. The festival wouldn't be shut down for this. There were only a few shots fired, and no one died, so there would be no point to stop. Her ears perked at Sol's command and she looked at him. That was really the first time he'd commanded her about anything. Plus, the little wolf was short for her age, so his grip was enough to hold her down- in this form, that is. He'd never seen her true form. That was something that only soldiers saw out on the battlefield, and more often than not, it'd be the last thing they ever saw. She listened to his words with great confusion. She thought Sol was an ex-soldier, judging by the mysterious little card he used in the store for her clothes. Surely he'd react a bit more...soldier-like to something like this, even if he didn't like violence and such. She wondered if, perhaps, he wasn't exactly a soldier, out on the frontline, but maybe a tech specialist, or something along the lines of a medic- something safe. Her tail twitched doubtingly, though her eyes faked happiness. What would he do with her...
[[Hey, what if there's like a sort of illegal fight club for slaves? Like illegal dog fights in the real world? xD I just thought of that and was wondering if anyone would back-up the idea. o w o]] |

Sol sighed out of relief as she stopped her squirming and looked to him. He was glad she finally stopped trying to head straight to the action. Was it time to tell her? How would she react? He didn't know... He could tell that her show of happiness was just a mask to cover up her confusion. He sat down on one of the lower walls and looked to Tenrai with a smile. He patted the spot next to him and took one of her hands, helping her up. She didn't need any help, as she was tall enough to get up herself, he just did it because he felt he had to.
"Tenrai, I have some... stuff to tell you" he nodded. He set a hand lightly on top of her head and closed his eyes, scratching her ears slowly as he began to speak. "I know who you are... If I was one of the scientists, I would have said 'what you are', but I'm not. I never met you personally, but I heard the stories. Everyone heard them, I guess. Entire battalions of soldiers falling to a single opponent, a massacre without a single shot. You're like me, Tenrai... People think we're monsters" he chuckled lightly and sighed again.
"I always felt sorry for you... You were never shown praise or mercy. They took you out when they needed you, used you, then through you back in your cage. I never once enjoyed the killing... I just knew it was necessary for the peace. Up until then, I had never been good at anything. I couldn't find my life's talent to save my own. Kind of ironic that my life's talent was ending other people's. Quick. Resourceful. Brutal. Efficient. Those were just some of the words people used to describe me. I earned the honorary title of 'Slayer' with the first few weeks of my service. The few friends I had made became distant... People were afraid..." he sighed again and looked down to her, his eyes now open.
"While your isolation and loneliness were forced on you, that was the path that I chose. After a while, though... Even justifying the killing by saying it was for peace and justice didn't make any sense. I decided to quit the military, to live a comfortable, obscure, and peaceful life. I left the days and the rank behind. I was a Colonel then... A rare 'Field Colonel', one that holds the rank, yet participates on the battlegrounds rather than coming up with plans and operations. I've lived comfortably in the city for a while now. I knew it was you, the moment I saw you. I could feel it... Everything. I knew why you resented me as a human being, and why you cried. I want... I want you to lead a better life. I don't want you to ever have to go back to being a caged animal, to being a monster" he sighed and took a breath. His hand on Tenrai's head slipped down, around her shoulders, and pulled her against him. He set his head down lightly, between her ears.
"After retirement, I made a vow. I will never kill again. Instead, I will live my life. That's the kind of life I want for you, Tenrai. I want you to live a normal, peaceful life. I want you to forget about all of those horrible experiences from your past. I want you to smile, to laugh, and even to yell at me, like you did this morning" he laughed, smiling as he hugged her a bit tighter. "I've said it before, Tenrai... You are not a bad person. It's alright if you think I'm soft, or a coward. I'll never kill again, but I will use my strength to protect you, so you never have to" he nodded. "I swear it"

Tenrai's eyes widened with amazement at Sol. He spoke of so much sadness and hope that it almost made her guilty for her past actions. Almost. She had no choice, so the things she did were not her fault. But he could and did rue his past. Tenrai felt a bit of fear since she'd killed many soldiers like him. Could she have hurt someone he knew or even slightly cared for by accident? Perhaps...A bit of pride surged through her at his mention of how her reputation spread through even the army. Though, she knew that this pride was a sin. There was nothing to be proud of in this war. War is Hell, in all the meaning of the word. Tenrai tensed as he hugged her tighter. Contact like that was still foreign to her, and felt wrong. So her ears flattened out of confusion and worry. Sol kept saying how he'd protect her and all...And maybe he would, but Tenrai still took no chances. Call her stupid and cruel, but she didn't know any better. This emotional wall she'd put up was made of steel, and wouldn't be broken easily. She sighed in his arms, laying her head on his chest, hearing his heartbeat. Her heart was obviously beating as well, though she could hear and feel the difference. This cursed plastic heart could easily give up on her, so the risk of death was always present. Tenrai nodded robotically at his last sentence.

Sol could see that Tenrai was still a bit confused. He patted her head softly as he released her from his hug. He stood up with her, taking her small hand in his. "C'mon, let's go! We're missing a lot in there" he chuckled and started to walk with her, keeping the small wolf girl at her side. He wondered what was going through her head. He felt a sort of... connection with her. Something that went way beyond words. Perhaps it was their similar pasts. He didn't know. He just knew that he had a better understanding of the girl than she would think. He led her into the festival and grinned as he saw a shooting gallery. It was a popular game for couples. In most cases, the girl would pick out a prize and cheer the guy on as he attempted to take it down for her. Pretty simple stuff. He led her over. He wondered... Would she go for it? There were a lot of prizes on the wall. There were simple things like toys, stuffed animals and such,. Then there were more complicated things, like a gaming system-one of the more recent ones-a set of free dinner tickets at a fancy restaurant, and other prizes intended for older couples. He looked to Tenrai as he paid the main and took up the air rifle.
"Anything you want on the wall, Tenrai?" he smiled as he tested the rifles feel and weight.

Reid laughed as Mika instantly went to the fish, seemingly fascinated with them. It was cute. He patted her head and nodded. "No problem, Mika! This just happens to be one of my talents! I am unusually skilled at things that are completely useless in real, everyday life" he chuckled to himself as he stepped forward, rolling the sleeve on his jacket up and bowing hsi head slightly to the man. The man handed him a small net with which to catch the fish. He stared down at them, and he imagined they were staring back up at him. He was completely still for a little while, staring down, until he finally moved. It was one quick, fluid motion. The water hardly seemed to move as he pulled the fish up. The man clapped slightly, before giving him a bag full of water. The goldfish went into it and the bag was tied off. Reid then handed it to Mika. He patted her on the head once again and looked down at her.

Tenrai felt like she could finally breathe once Sol let go of her. Sure, he was still holding her hand, which again, was awkwardly new to her, but she let it be. She nodded at his statement and followed him into the festival. It was simply amazing to her. The lights, the sounds- the smells. Food was being prepared everywhere. her tail curled up half-way and swayed from side to side. Her ears turned in all directions at the music and sounds of the games, and her eyes darted everywhere. She snapped out of the trance-like state and looked over all the prizes on the wall. Toys...So many toys. She remembered how in the labs, when she was first taken in, they let her have a little, white stuffed animal dog as a toy. Over three years, it gradually wore out, and some of Tenrai's caretakers offered to throw it away because she might become allergic to the bacteria or dust particals inside of it. Tenrai snapped and killed two of the workers. After that outburst, the lab took no hesitation in sedating her whenever needed. And yes, the toy was taken away and burned.
Tenrai looked around the prize wall. She really wanted a stuffed animal. There was one almost exactly like her old one, and she despirately wanted it, but then there were free tickets to a -she assumed- fancy restaurant. Free food, or toy? Free food? Or toy? Toy?! Free food?! Food?! Toy?! These questions screamed in her head before she finally made a choice. She picked up another rifle, right next to Sol, and aimed at one of the targets.
"I'll...I'll get the toy. Can you try to get the dinner tickets?" She knew it sounded strange, so she added, "The toy is just...It reminds me of something...And you know I like food!"
She spoke to him without taking her eye off the toy, and somewhat yelled the last part with a bit of irritation in her voice.

The muffled breathing of a young girl echoed within an enormous steel container, illuminated by a single, dim lamp that hung from the ceiling. She sat limp on the floor, her head encased in a mechanical suppresser-helmet. All around her, the steel room had depressions and dents in it- evidence of a desperate struggle. Her body was covered in wires, monitoring her every change in mental and physical activity. A speaker seemed to sound, and someone’s voice blasted and reverberated in the room.
“KB-01, do not be alarmed. The person entering your room is a fellow scientist. You are being moved into a new container.”
She lifted her head weakly, her breathing still steady. KB-01. ‘Kinetic Being, number one’. Her new alias since the kidnapping.
She couldn’t see through the helmet, but she could ‘see’ a woman enter the room by their aura. The woman moved closer and closer towards her motionless form, with something small and cold in her hands. Whatever it was, the thing sent an uneasy chill up her spine. Suddenly, the woman spoke as she grabbed her arm.
“Please don’t move, KB-01,” something as sharp as a needle penetrated her arm near the shoulder, “This is for your own good, as well as the world’s sanity.”
Within the helmet, the girl’s eyes widened. They were trying to kill her! With a surge of energy and blood, the woman was sent flying across the room, hitting the wall with a loud bang. An alarm sounded as she did so. The girl stumbled to her feet and with a wave of her arm, large dents began forming in the side of the container, as if something was hitting it. Finally, it broke open, but to her misfortune, there was a squad of soldiers there, armed with pistols and rifles, ready to gun her down. She took a step forward, and they began firing. But as the smoke cleared, you could see that the bullet had stopped in midair about a foot from the girl. She grit her teeth, and the bullets were sent back at the soldiers, killing them all instantly. She grunted and the helmet on her head shattered, revealing a very pale face with one crimson eye and ashen hair. Her right eye had a mechanical device that resembled a camera in it. She grabbed it and yanked it out, and with it much blood and a deafening scream. She stumbled out of the room and found her way into a hospital-like area, where she quickly found a few towels and an eye patch. As disgusting as it may sound, she cleaned out the hollow inside of her eye socket and strapped on the eye patch. There was still some blood that ran down the side of her face like crimson tears.
After that, security camera showed her dashing out of the laboratory and into the city, where it would be extremely hard to find her.
