"Long story short; yes, I took you in as a child during my stint with Team Rocket. Back then I went by the alias of Shades. I won't get into the messy history of why I was part of Team Rocket, was, but I will explain why I dragged you into it. You see, the higher ups of Rocket were interested in those humans with Psychic abilities. For a long time they bugged Saffron City gym and monitored the individuals there, in fact, Rocket had many people on the inside and in a roundabout way you could see Sabrina was their puppet, at least until she figured things out. Happened all at once too, I'm certain she had a premonition of something. Credit to the Rocket scientists which were able to dupe her for so long.. Sub began to explain.
"Any who, with their little project in Saffron ruined the project head decided he wasn't ready to give up just yet. So with less funding his team was severely cut back and thus I was assigned to his project. My job was to poke around large cities and find a young subject with Psychic abilities. Long story short, again, I found you. You just didn't realize you had latent Psychic abilities at the time, but I did. The goal with you was to try and force your affinity towards Psychic Channeling awake. Usually it takes a lot of concentrated practice and years of Channeling to even get started, as you know, but Rocket research has shown that for some individuals a traumatic life event can trigger abilities. And that's all they wanted, someone who could harness Psychic abilities to some degree, didn't matter how well." He said, taking a sip of water.
"I kept you close for awhile, took you on my missions and what not. The project head figured since I went on a lot of risky outings that eventually something would happen to trigger your abilities but it would seem I did a little too good at keeping you safe, that was until Snowpoint. I'm not even sure what happened there exactly. We were there to look into the mythos surrounding the temple, that was it. Some things happened and the next thing I knew there was a cave in and we were separated. I figured you for dead, hell they even told me your mangled remains were discovered so I thought nothing of it. Low and behold my surprise when I found out you were a live and well. I didn't say anything about our past together as you didn't even recognize me in the first place, and why should you? I am a different person now than I was then. Stranger still was that come to find out you didn't remember any of it, so I just didn't bring it up. Simple as that really." Sub admitted.

There would be no response from Reno to what Sub has just told him. All that Sub and the others would be able to see is Reno slowly crumple towards the floor before simply collapsing with a jarring thud. Internally, however, he was experiencing an entirely different consequence of this revelation than total shutdown.
Reno could see himself, slowly creeping behind who he knew now to be Sub, only focused on picking the pocket of the man he couldn't seem to get a read on. Any other target, he always seemed to know whether they were alert enough to notice him borrowing their things but he didn't notice that he was extremely alert and instead relying on his instinct to warn him. Which is why it came as such a surprise when he was caught by the man and his intuition didn't even give the slightest indication it was going to happen.
A blur of memory passed him by, mission after mission with Shades using him as a caddy and sitting around while he watched his companion at work. None of them really seemed to stick in his mind, tending to blend together into one incoherent mass of watching someone else do work. And while one point of interest did seem to spark, it disappeared just as quickly. Reno had an inkling about what that one might have been but it was hard to say exactly. Eventually, he found himself with Shades and a few other Rockets, staring at a statue in Snowpoint Temple. And while the adults did things like stare at the statue, tap at it with whatever was available, and push him out of the room whenever they wanted to try the actually interesting things on the statue. And he was growing tired of being left out of all the fun things. Quietly sneaking back into the room behind the ones who had pushed him out, Reno watched as they began to set up a few devices around the statue before backing off. Deciding that going up to the devices that these men had backed away from quickly was exactly what he wanted to do, he found himself examining the wires and canisters hooked up to the device before reaching the conclusion that they were using explosives. Letting that thought settle for a moment, he screamed in the highest pitch he could reach before charging away from the devices, ducking into a side tunnel before an ear-splitting kaboom threw him further inside and collapsed the entrance.
He wandered the tunnels for days, maybe weeks. Could have been months, he did manage to find the occasional bit of food and its not exactly hard to find water in the snow. No, the main issue was the isolation. Without anyone to talk to, all of the energy and thoughts that would have used turned inward and began to fester as paranoia. A paranoia that led to him imagining that statue come to life, trudging through the tunnels after him. While hindsight told Reno that this creature was a delusion empowered by his own mental powers, little kid Reno could only see this stalking, omnipresent engine of destruction after him and kept himself in an eternally panicked state. And from what Horus had done to him, Reno knew that the true evil was what came next, the thing that had been attracted by that massive output of chi and emotional energy.
This second presence drove him to cower behind his own mental creation, the Regigigas statue providing him some cover from the eerie pink blob that Reno could see at the edges of his vision in the halls near the construct. But the entity descended on the creation after a time, shredding the chi construct with little effort to clear out any possible interference it might be causing to keep Reno hidden. But what assaulted the Regigigas was not some cute pink blob. It was a monstrosity, a shadow made out of a hundred different Pokemon and humans, the limbs and teeth biting and clawing into the statue before ripping and tearing out sizable chunks with inhuman efficiency. Reno took off running again, only with this pursuer came a much more competent and deadly enemy. Its first attempt to capture was its most successful, morphing into the guise of a human woman calling out for any survivors who might still be there. But Reno saw through the disguise, but not due to any cunning or his intuition that seemed to be leaving him. He evaded it by simply snarling and throwing rocks at the woman before she morphed into a Metagross and took off towards him.
This new presence did not seem to be pursuing him with any speed, instead corralling him into smaller sections of the tunnels through sheer relentless cornering and ability to be in multiple locations at once. But this method did end with Reno cornered and the entity closing in with a devilish grin across its face, making promises about putting him to good use and about how he would soon be part of efforts to reunite this world with its true leader. all Reno could focus on was getting out, finding something, anything. And with that, he vanished from the ruins in a flash of pink.
He found himself floating in the ocean, staring out at the horizon and the small town he could see. But he felt so weak, he didn't think he would even be able to get halfway.Looking around at the water, Reno soon found a pair of large eyes and even larger tongue staring at him. "The hell are you lookin' at, ya overbaked piece a seafood?" He quipped at the Shellder, getting a spray of Brine in his face for his trouble. Frowning at the response from the lone Pokemon, the red haired kid nodded towards shore. "Care ta help a friend out? Maybe we make it an adventure. You get ta see the world, and I get ta not drown in a freezing bloody ocean." Reno said, teeth chattering as he watched the Shellder nod and begin to propel itself towards land, Reno scrambling to get a grip and transport out of the water.
Back in the real world, Reno would stir awake after a few minutes to stare up at Sub. Without saying a word, he would smack the Dark type specialist. "You knew I had Psychic powers and you still let me handle that Deoxys meteorite? Me trying to blow you up was really your fault at that point."

"Feels like forever," Keiko remarked as we passed the waterfall obscuring the passageway into Team Snagem's headquarters.
"Kind of," I agreed, looking over the door like it was the first time I'd seen it. "But in a strange way, it seems like I never left."
"You didn't really," Keiko smirked. "Aside from your... gym run, anyway," she added with a sudden, sullen look on her face.
I patted Keiko's shoulder gently to cheer her up. "Well, no point in waiting around out here," I said with a calm smile. Together, we stood by as the door opened, taking our first steps into the underground complex together, looking around to see if anyone was in the main lobby to greet.
