William Dante Nott the Third

Fifth Year, Slytherin Prefect

Halfway through the year already, he could hardly believe it. His shaven hair had grown several inches, auburn hair spilling gently over his golden eyes, but only just barely. A darkness had seeped beneath his flesh, cradling close to the animalistic hunger, the insatiable thirst for death and destruction and fire. All around him, his peers were engaged in idle socialism. And, he couldn’t have felt any more isolated. At the mouth of the entrance of the common room, he felt eyes flutter towards him. Most dared not to look him in the eye, others gawked and stared and pointed, reminiscing in the subtleties of his failures. He felt no control here, in the midst of celebrations, but he plastered on a fake smile. A menacing mask too chilling and nefarious to ever be believed, and, even recently, some students had pointed fingers and blamed him for the death of Zane Acacia.

Ha! He mused. The boy brought it upon himself.

Her nose wrinkled with humor as long ivory digits gently caressed her own lips, hiding herself as she giggled into her hand at the comment of the first year before her, and, how she very much expressed the same ideals and values and logistics as Damien. Her green eyes sparkled like fiendfyre as she nodded her head quite enthusiastically, ”Ooh, it truly is a shame isn’t it? I’ve always felt very much the same, ridiculous really, you won’t even learn anything truly until your third year because of people like that…” She agreed wholeheartedly, her lips had parted to speak more but before she could, the quidditch captain slid to her side.

She pursed her lips suddenly, and—that smile. It wove so perfectly and pristine, a crystalline gem sparkling in the sun. It was also a smile of silence, and secrecy. When animosity must be dealt with behind the curtains and only proper diction will do. She never so much cared who knew of her prejudice, but, she was not willing to succumb to another tired old lesson of history and honor and nobility. No, there was no room for honor and nobility. Not when traditions and ideals were struggling just to survive. After all, she was no, needed to be the epitome of perfection…

Even if she had to hide herself to do it.

Michelle entered the common room looking for a peaceful place to just sit, but instead was greeted with a blast of celebration. She wrinkled her nose in distaste and slipped through the crowd unnoticed by anyone. She noticed the Ronyo boy she'd met at the opening feast talking to Damien, Dominic and Belle and positioned herself near enough to them to hear their conversation but hidden from their eyesight. She was curious to what Ronyo would want to do with boys like Damien and Dominic.

Damien offered the older girl a smile at he agreement with his comment. It was so lovely to finally have met someone who so clearly would ensure that Salazar Slytherin could remain proud of the members of his most esteemed house. After having to associate with his fellow first years, he had about had it with their bloody attitudes. It was wholly refreshing to realize that perhaps their sortings had been a fluke, and that the house of Slytherin were noble still. She had aced the final test; even if she wasn't necessarily as... traditional as he, she still knew to behave as such in response to his demeanor. It was nice to know that all hope for the name Slytherin had not been lost. He wasn't sure if he had heard her family name before, but Dominic's was old, as was his, and she was his cousin, so she must be from an old family herself. She clearly exemplified the desired traits of a snake. He was just about to offer her a response when another young man approached, one he'd seen before, wandering about the castle, mostly, and who he seemed to recall speaking with Michelle and... Taye, was it? At the feast. When the older boy introduced himself, Damien barely kept from wrinkling his nose at the fact that he hadn't offered his hand. It was only proper. Damien corrected the situation by offering his instead. "Damien Warren Edgeworth," he said coolly, not really happy with what most certainly was an interruption. He was almost certain now that Ronyo had been speaking with Michelle, and that made him suspect. His cousin had a rather twisted perspective on who was and was not appropriate for her to socialize with, and if this man were someone she enjoyed speaking with, Damien wasn't sure that he cared to speak with him as well. But, then, the young man was a Slytherin; he deserved a chance.

Ronyo Storm - Slytherin
Fifth Year
Slytherin Common Room

The boy's offered hand and last fleeting images of that wrinkled nose showed Ronyo had hit a minor soft spot with the young boy. Normally Ronyo was always first to offer a hand in greeting but his lack of one this turn had been on purpose to judge the boy's reaction. That small moment of facial language was enough to tell Ronyo the kind of person he was dealing with, a tell if you were a gambling person. So this boy had had the proverbial pure blood stick shoved up his back side as well, it was moments like this that had Ronyo worried about the future of the green and silver house. For a house that cared only for itself would inevitably be the snake that ate itself. Taking the boy's hand with his smile persisting through the events Ronyo gave Damien a nod as well.

"Such a proper greeting, I've only meet a few people who spoke their full name in a greeting, formal or not. I trust you are enjoying Hogwarts and its many wonders. The first and second years are always the most enlightening as they show you more about yourself than one often thinks. I found that while I did not learn many spells I did learn more about the kind of wizard I am and wish to become, important years the first two are," Truth in all his words and all meant to be helpful should any care to take them to heart but Ronyo really wasn't there to lecture just to learn himself, "So Damien how do you know our houses grand seeker and hawk-eyed beater?"

Damien barely arched a brow at the comment the older boy made on his introduction. What was that supposed to mean, that he was strange? It was true, he was sorry to say. The care most people took with propriety these days, or rather lack thereof, was appalling to Damien, who had been raised with a more old world style of upbringing. He took his hand back, and placed both behind his back, clasping his palms together gently, as his father expected. There had been many nights, particularly before the start of this school year, where he'd been coached by his mother and judged by his father on the manner in which he carried himself. He must uphold his family name, and show that while many others may have, the Edgeworth family had not fallen in grace, had not turned their backs on the values and traditions that made their family great. "My father is very taken with a more traditional concept of propriety," the young snake said coolly. "I have been made aware, since coming here, that perhaps I am one of a very small number of students with families who still keep to the old ways." Including yourself, apparently, Damien thought, but he kept his tongue to himself. His father would view any such remark, such a biting retort, as most improper, especially since Ronyo was an older student, and therefore his superior by default. Had he been a Hufflepuff, or perhaps a Gryffindor, there might have been a bit of wiggle room, but Damien would treat the older snakes with the respect the house of Slytherin deserved, even if he didn't necessarily feel that they were personally worthy. At the question about Dominic and Annabelle, he gave a cool, polite smile. "Dominic and I have our lessons together, of course. We generally sit together, a natural inclination, seeing as we are of the same house and gender. And I have just had the pleasure of meeting Annabelle. Dominic introduced us only moments before you.. joined the conversation." There was the slightest of pauses between 'you' and 'joined,' something most people would overlook. It was as much displeasure as Damien would allow himself to show in regards to Ronyo's interruption of his conversation with the young lady. It wouldn't do for him to cause a scene, after all, particularly not in his own Common Room, with members of his own house.

Ronyo Storm - Slytherin
Fifth Year
Slytherin Common Room

So the boy had no issue with the way he was raised and seemed to have been fully indoctrinated into that older way of thinking. For a moment Ronyo took it as simply just that but maybe there was more to the idea than just a boy being raised a certain way. If the subject was not willing a change in nurture would not overwrite nature when it came to inner ideas and fundamental beliefs. By the way the boy spoke, held himself, and even positioned his eyes told of a boy who seemed to believe what he was doing was right. Nothing was more powerful than someone who believed what they were doing was right, even if that person is capable of good or bad things, just look at Tom Riddle.

Ronyo also caught the slight break in the continuation of the boy’s speech when he pushed on his interruption in the conversation. Had it been a boy with a different manner of self, even one willing to just be blunt, the white haired boy might have left but something pulled him to stay. The boy held himself calmly with the ideas he was better than others, something he was slightly curious about how far could be pushed with subtle words. Not wanting to make his fellow quidditch players uncomfortable Ronyo felt it best to limit his time so he would linger only a few moments longer.

“Ah the old ways, you know many forget that older ways still exists in the Slytherin past. They are however ideas I know Belle has likely heard me carry on about more times than she should have had to. There was a time that all four houses worked as one, and the houses of Gryffindor and Slytherin were friends not rivals,” Ronyo gave a smile as he nodded to Belle showing he would not carry on like he usually did, “So Damien have you made any friends outside of the old green and silver walls?”

Damien wanted to argue with the older boy on the subject of the houses being friends. He wanted to argue that the unification of the houses, and subsequent split, had been because of a difference of ideals, and one that had been only natural, and to be expected. In truth, he'd always been surprised that the founders had ever gotten along well enough to even form the school, but then, it was easy to be so impressed with one's accomplishments that you overlooked their flaws. Gryffindor may have been a fool, but he'd been a fierce warrior, one who used brains as well as brawn, despite what you might think looking at the residents of his house. And Ravenclaw had been completely brilliant; it was easy to see how Salazar Slytherin might have been deluded into believing that he might change her mind. The only founder he'd never understood was Hufflepuff. From what he'd heard, she wasn't a particularly impressive figure. He'd heard of no great feats, no amazing discoveries, inventions, battles, anything. But, then, at least her house wasn't doing her a disservice in their mediocrity. Unlike the other houses, he thought. The soft spot the other founders had for muggles and muggleborns could be overlooked, in light of their brilliance and skill. The same could not be said for their students. In any case, Damien knew it would be a futile argument to have. So, seeking a medium between his thoughts and propriety, he replied, "I believe that a separation was only natural, given the vast differences in philosophy between the House Founders. Many friendships and partnerships have been severed by such things, and even the strongest bond can be broken by a strong enough force. As for the houses not getting along... when you divide people, there is bound to be rivalry. They didn't do any favors in that regard by creating the tradition of the House Cup; each House has to believe theirs is the best in order to have the drive to prove it by winning." When Ronyo posed his next question, Damien paused. He hadn't made any friends in other houses, he knew. Actually, he hadn't made any friends... except Dominic, he supposed. He wasn't really sure if 'friends' was the term. They rarely spoke... actually, this might be the first time they'd spoken outside of class. As his father had, he'd been focusing on his studies. Or, rather, stewing over the fact that he was apparently incapable of performing a single bloody charm. His Transfiguration work wasn't much better, but at least he'd turned the damn matchstick silver, and given it a bit of a point. His failure to succeed at the simplest spellwork continued to annoy him to no end, especially in light of Adalaide's success. After a moment, Damien realized he'd not answered Ronyo's question, getting wrapped up in his own thoughts, and he grimaced ever so slightly. His father would have been cross with him for such a rude gesture; it would not happen again, Damien told himself, focusing on answering the question. "Honestly, I haven't made any friends, except perhaps Dominic. I've been rather preoccupied with my lessons... I didn't really see many children my own age at home, so I'm not used to socializing." That was actually a bit more honest that he'd intended to be, Damien realized, his eyebrows knitting together ever so slightly. He actually hadn't realized until now that his lack of friends might be tied to the fact that he simply wasn't used to trying to talk to other children... he'd only ever really been around his parents, who weren't exactly keen on talking to a child. And Brownie, of course... he would never admit it to anyone, but oftentimes he felt like that House Elf might know him, and care for him, more than his own parents did. And he thought that, perhaps, he might care for her more than he cared for them. If he were honest with himself, she might as well be his mother, for all that she'd done for him, and all that his real mother hadn't. Actually, he rather missed her... it was unfortunate that he couldn't write her; his father would have a conniption fit if he ever knew the thought had even crossed his son's mind. So, Damien brushed it aside, putting it away in the box in his mind, with all the other thoughts he wasn't supposed to think.

Michelle leaned against a wall in total shadow. She knew she couldn't be seen unless someone was really looking for her, which is what she was going for anyways. She was really just waiting for everyone to leave so she could speak with Tay, but her grey eyes caught sight of Jaden as he left the common room and a smirk played on her lips. She had seen him interacting with Gracie earlier. Interesting.

Eliora sat curled up on the couch in front of the fire in the Common Room after her first day of classes. She hadn't known, when she had been sent to the school, that she would have so much free time, and it was hard to figure out what to do with it! So now, she decided to write to her parents. There was some time before dinner, and the girl desperately needed some of her clothes from home. She had seen several of the older students wearing plain clothes beneath their robes, and those were much more comfortable than the uniform she was currently wearing.

Dear Mum and Da,

My first day of school went rather well. My only class so far today was Defense Against the Dark Arts, so you know I was
thrilled with that class. Tonight I have Astronomy. I miss you. I haven't gotten to go see Aunt Loretta yet, but I saw her at the Feast and at Breakfast and Lunch.

I got sorted into Slytherin, just like you knew I would, so thank you for packing the necklace and bow for me to wear.

I met a couple nice boys at the Feast. One is a Montague... I'll let you know what comes of that, considering the name involved.

Please send me a trunk with some of my plain clothes, and charm it so it will open when I say to? I've seen several students wearing normal clothes instead of uniforms under their robes. I think perhaps you only have to wear uniforms on special occasions, like if another school visits or we go on a field trip.

Much love,
Eli heart

Eliora got up once she finished the letter. She figured she could just mail the letter after dinner, so she ran upstairs to her room to drop off her ink, quill, and leftover parchment before heading to dinner. She rolled the letter and tied it with a bow, sticking it in her satchel. Then she headed off to dinner in the Great Hall.
