The Mountain

[Wolfs Heart]

She nodded her head and laid down on a rock stretching out.

He lay down as well and looked at her.

She flinched a litle at his gaze and a blanket appeared in the air and landed gracefully, covering her, but more importantly her belly, which she had become more conscience of in her human form. "Tell me?"

He looked at her and smiled though it was not visible and nodded.  

[Wolfs Heart]

She rested her head on a nearbye rock and waited for him to tell the story.

He spoke slowly and purposfully. "Sparkling waters once crossed the land. Two thousand years ago the Manetherendrelle flowed by the walls of the mountain city, so lovely that Ogier stonemasons came to stare in wonder. Farms and villages covered the region that was once called the forest of shadows and beyond that. All of these people thought of themselves as part of the mountain home, the people of Manetheren."

"Are there still humans here?" Heart said as she shivered a little in fear. She stared at him and tried to find his eyes beneath the shadow of his cloak.

"For nearly two centuries the Trollock Wars ravaged the length and the breadth of the world, and wherever the battles raged, the Red Eagle banner of Manetheren stood in the`forefront."

Heart thought about it trying to picture everything in her mind. She continued to stare at him for a moment and then turned away.

"The men of Manetheren were far away, on the feild of Bekkar, called the Feild of Blood,when news came that a Trolloc army was moving against their home.Too far to do else but wait to hear of their land's death,for the forces of the Dark One meant to make an end for them. Kill the mighty Oak by hacking away its roots. Too far to do else but mourn. But they were the men of the Mountain Home."

"Without hesitation,without thought of the distance they must travel, the marched from the very feild of their victory, still covered in dust and sweat and blood. Day and night they marched, for they had seen the horror a Trolloc army left behind it, and no man could sleep while such things threatened their home of Manetheren. They moved as if their feet had wings, marching further and faster than friends hoped and enemies feared they could. At any other day that march alone would have inspired songs. When the Dark Ones armies swooped down upon the lands of Manetheren, the men of the Mountain Home stood before it."

Heart looked at him once again, "Where did you hear this? Or did you...did you see it?" She said as she sat up to have a better look at him.

"The host that faced the men of Manetheren was great enough to daunt the bravest heart. Ravens blackened the sky; Trollocs blackened the and. Trollocs and their human allies. Trollocs and Darkfriends in tens of tens of thousands, and dreadlords to command. At night their cookfires outnumbered the stars, and dawn revealed the banner of Ba' alzemon at their head. Ba' alzemon, Heart of the Dark. An ancient name for the Father of Lies. The Dark One could not have been free from his prision, for id he had been not all the forces of humankind could have stood against him, but there was power there. Dreadlords, and some evil that made the light-banner seem no more than right and sent a chill into the souls of men who faced it."

"Yet they knew what they must do. Their homeland lay just across the river. They must keep that host, and the power with it, from the Mountain Hoime. Aemon, king of Manetheren, sent out messengers. Aid was promised if they could hold for but three days. Hold for three days against the odd sthat should overwhelm them in the first hour. Yet somehow though, through the bloody assault and desperate defense, they held through an hour, and the second hour, and the thrid. For three days they fought, and though the land became a butcher's yard, no passage across the river did they yeild. But by the third night no help had come, no messengers, so they fought on alone. For six days. For nine. And on the tenth day Aemon felt the bitter taste of betrayal. No help was coming, and they could hold the river crossing no more."

"Yeah, sure. I'll try to answer as best I can. What is it?" Star smiled back as she eagerly awaited her question.

Feay and miko over heard what heart and sky were saying (for they have REALY good hearing). "wow what a deep story..."Feay said. "Very deep..." Miko echoed. "go on finish, i want to hear the rest."
