"Now, U-Turn!" Aden called immediately, deciding to get Raticate out now rather than later. Sure enough, Raticate flung himself forward to strike Drifblim, barely escaping the attack as he hurried to Aden's side to recall himself.

The attack didn't make the Driftblim flinch much at all. "Huh...well that was a bit anti-climatic..." Morty said, placing a hand in his pocket.

"He's cowarding..." Kristy mused.

"He's sizing Morty up..." I corrected. "Though, its a profound way to do it, I admit."

"Sizing up a gym leader, Blizzard?" Kristy asked. "That isn't wise."

"And your underestimating is?" I asked. Kristy remained silent.

The scoreboard dims out Raticate's image and the ref looks on at Aden, awaiting the second Pokemon.

Aden took a moment to think, eyeing the surroundings. As he saw it, Geodude was unlikely to be of too much use, at least at the moment. He wasn't sure at all about the Eevee he recently acquired either, and Scyther would have a struggle trying to fight a ghost. This left him trying to choose between Flaaffy or Nidorino, but Flaaffy might've been seen coming.

So, he opted for the odder approach, sending out Nidorino. "Nidorino, your turn! Toxic Spikes!" As soon as Nidorino was out, he'd manage to scatter a few poisonous barbs around the battlefield.

The Drifblim looked down towards the field, seeing the spikes get laid about on the field. Not as if it had any intentions to land anytime soon. Morty thought for a moment, however, thinking on the long term. He didn't see the spikes being too much of a problem for him, not like it was for Kristy anyways.

"Alright then, go, Drifblim! Use Shadow Ball!" Morty called out.

The Drifblim formed a dark mass before it then fired it off towards the Nidorino.

Nidorino braced himself to take the hit, though he'd shrug it off for now.

For Aden, though, he felt he had his chance if he did something now. "Alright, Nidorino! Shock Wave!" He called while the chance was there, his Nidorino charging up for a second before letting a quick discharge of electricity loose, going for Drifblim with frightening speed.

The Drifblim wouldn't be able to avert this shot even if it wanted to. The Drifblim managed to weather the shot however for the time being. "You're going to have to do better than that if you intend on bringing Drifblim down, Aden!" Morty said. "Another Stockpile, Drifblim!"

Once again, the balloon glowed very briefly, and once more it swelled just that bit more, storing more energy.

"In that case... Nidorino, Poison Sting!" Aden called. He knew the attack would be little more than a tickle to Drifblim at this point, but he had to try something. Otherwise, he might as well be fighting a fortress in balloon form.

Just as with the Toxic Spikes earlier, Nidorino managed to scatter a few more poisonous barbs. Only, this time they were aimed at Drifblim to try and strike it instead.

The shots hit their mark, and just as expected, the attack barely warranted a flinch out of the Drifblim. "Drifblim, Shadow Ball!" Morty shouted. The Drifblim unleashed another Shadow Ball attack towards the poison Pokemon.

Off on the side lines, I had to admit, I was getting a little nervous. Aden really needed to kick this fight into high gear before he let this Drifblim get out of control.

"Maybe... Nidorino, get underneath Drifblim and strike upwards with Poison Jab!" Aden called, trying to get some kind of traction. Nidorino rushed forward, getting grazed by the Shadow Ball and trying to keep going. As soon as he got underneath where Drifblim was, he jumped up to try and jab it with his horn.

Ghosts being known for going intangible and all, the only thing Aden could hope for was to try and catch the ghost unaware.

While Ghosts may be known to go intangible or invisible or things of the like, Drifblim wasn't one such of those Pokemon. Furthermore, with Tailwind now puttered out, the Drifblim couldn't evade it as much as it wanted to. The Poison Jab rammed right into the balloon, causing a little damage, but the damage was finally now starting to add up...to which, Morty had only one answer to.

"Drifblim, Swallow!" He shouted. The Drifblim glowed bright and its swelling went back down, but apparently, probably to Aden's dismay, the Drifblim was looking a little chipper now.

"Well, that's... fun," Aden commented, but he was already thinking of a way to deal with that recovery, "Nidorino, Shock Wave!"

Nidorino was wanting that traction back too, and quickly. He didn't take long at all to charge and let off the attack, almost daring Drifblim to find some way of actually dodging it.

With the defensive padding now out the window, the Shockwave attack ended up hurting about on par with what's its supposed to be. "We're not out of this yet. Driftblim! Shadow Ball!" Morty shouted.

The Driftblim unleashed a dense mass right after the Nidorino.

"Get out of the way from it!" Aden called at once, and it was almost enough. Nidorino was able to evade the worst of it, but the attack still grazed him. It looked unlikely that he'd take much more.

He knew he was between a rock and a hard place already, wanting to conserve Raticate still, but knowing Nidorino was almost certain to fall before long. He had to think of something, and fast.

"Gotta think... hey, Nidorino. Think that Shadow Ball was a good effort?"

Nidorino gave Aden a weird look, but figured what he had in mind and agreed, complimenting Drifblim on its efforts thus far. Cue the flattery.

"Blim...?" The Driftblim spoke up, instantly growing confused from the sudden flattery being brought onto it.

"Well, I saw that coming from a mile away..." Morty spoke up. However, he knew that this wasn't all that bad at the moment. He actually had an advantage now...well, providing that he could make use of it. "Driftblim! Can you Stockpile again?" Morty called out.

The Driftblim heard the command, but it apparently was for naught. Driftblim was virtually stunned over the complements just right out of the blue.

"Still gotta deal with it even when you see it," Aden spoke up, starting to realize just how predictable he might've been getting with all the status moves. But it worked in his favor, if only for a fleeting moment. He'd need to act now if he was to capitalize on any of it. "Nidorino, if you can charge it again, lay another Shock Wave on him!"

Trying to keep up the damage before Drifblim could resume enduring attack after attack, Nidorino was able to charge and fire another Shock Wave from around him, keeping a wary eye on his opponent.

Driftblim took another Shock Wave attack, now starting to feel wary from the long, enduring battle. In fact, the Drifblim didn't have much at all left. Morty still had a few tricks up his sleeve, to show how devious a ghost can be. "Now we can't have that. Forget Stockpile then...use Baton Pass!" he shouted.

It took a few seconds for it to register. The flattery still getting the better of the balloon, but it actually managed to succeed. The Drifblim gets recalled back into the ball on the balloon's own whims. "Oh crap...that's not good..." I said as I watched from the stands.

"Right into his hands..." Kristy spoke.

As the Drifblim dims out from the scoreboard as a indicator to being benched, I muttered a slight chant of 'don't do it' only for the chant to go unanswered. "Alright, Aden, you asked for it. Gengar! Go!"

"He did it..." I could only wince at what I was about to watch. Morty tossed out the ball out and upon the field, came Morty's most trusted ally in battle.

"Gen-GAR!" It spoke up. And it was really feeling good now.
