The Musical Future

Kendall chuckled. "I think something a little less . . . scholarly would be more appropriate." he said with a bit of an awkward smile at the hopeful healer. "Do you think you could find something?" he asked.

The Healer nodded with a soft sigh. "We have some picture books for children?" She suggested.

Kyria huffed. "If that's all there is." She whispered to Kendall.

Kendall made a face. "Erm, let's see if I can't make those textbooks entertaining. I'm not going to patronize you." he said, looking a little put out at the selection.

Kyria giggled quietly. "It's okay. I don't mind whatever you read, as long as you keep talking." She replied and kissed his hand. "Talk. I'm listening I promise." She smiled and settled in the bed closing her eyes.

Kendall thought for a moment before smiling. "How about I tell you the history of Karica? How this kingdom was founded and how the long friendship with our neighbor, Permandra was forged." he said, and without waiting for an answer, launched into the story. Something he was told when he was much younger by one of his tutors . . . long before he had been kidnapped, but a story he had remembered though the years.

Kyria smiled and listened to the story, the music starting to soothe itself from the chaos it had thrown her into. Her fingers moving on his hand in the form of a melody only she could hear in her head.

Kendall continued speaking, telling her all about his country's most revered heroes and even some of their most despised monarchs. It wasn't until he started growing rather hoarse that he stopped speaking for a moment. Turning to a nearby nurse, he cleared his throat. "Um, excuse me. Would you mind getting some water for me?" he asked, not wanting to give an order. After all, these people were helping Kyria and Arisa get better. He didn't want to distract them unless it was necessary. But if he didn't get something to drink, he wouldn't be able to keep up the story that he'd been telling Kyria. And it really did seem to be helping her relax.

The young healer smiled and nodded going off and about three minutes later she returned with a jug of water and a glass, she put it on the bedside table and then checked Kyria's vitals, then she moved on to Arisa to check on her and make sure she was okay.

Kendall filled up the glass with water and gratefully drank it down. He then sighed a bit, refreshed and after a moment to remember where he was in the story, continued. He was a bit worried though. He was running out of history to tell.

Arisa's condition hadn't changed since she had fallen asleep after her initial bout of consciousness. It was unlikely she'd be waking up again that day. She did have a lot of recovery to work through.

Kyria continued to sleep, even when Kendall stopped talking. She was so deep in sleep that she was dreaming what he was talking about. But she was the hero, not whomever he was talking about.

Kenall found that even with the water, his voice was still quite hoarse, and it took a lot less time for his voice to be nearly unusable, so he eventually just stopped talking to give his voice a chance to rest. He did not leave Kyria's side though. Well . . . except once. But that was to go to the restroom and empty his bladder. Other than that, he was at Kyria's side the entire time.

Kyria slept deeply giving little huffs and sighs as she snuggled into the warm blankets. Kendall. . .Her dreams were filled with him and his talking about random things. She kept his hand tight in her hand when it was there.

Kyria woke suddenly. The world outside was dark. She had the urge to write down her dream in the form of song. . .but she couldn't remember the score. At all. It was slipping from her memory.

Next to Kyria, with her hand still grasped in his, Kendall had fallen asleep in a rather uncomfortable position. He had slumped over completely so that his head and arms were resting on Kyria's bed, but his rear end was still firmly seated on the chair.

Hushed voices were coming from the doorway. It appeared the king was arguing with the healers. He had come in to check on his son and the others, but upon seeing the position in which Kendall was sleeping, was trying to get the healers to allow him to take Kendall up to his room so he could sleep in his own bed. The healers were arguing that having him there was beneficial to Kyria's recovery, though they could not yet figure out exactly why that was. There was also queries of whether Tyrion would be getting his own room, the king nodded, but added that he'd be placing guards at the door. Until he got the full story from Kendall and was able to have a word with Tyrion, he didn't trust a prince from Permandra. Not just yet anyways.

Kyria was awake. Her mind hushing the music. Reasoning this to be important to the score. The music hushed and looked over at a sleeping Tyrion as they spoke. His score wasn't done. Fate had him facing his father again. Her hand slipped from Kendalls hand as she moved out of the bed and to the door. Her head still hurt and her vision was very blurry, but she needed to hear more. They were going to post guards?! Tyrion! The music blared at the thought of him. Pain blooming in her chest.

She crept back to her bed and shivered. She had to think of something. She had to warn him. . .But. . .She looked down at Kendall. . .Kendall would believe her. . . He had too. . .The music was never wrong. . .

The king left and healers and a couple of guards came into the room. A bed was being carried in by the guards. Once the healers noticed that Kyria was awake, they flocked to her. "Are you feeling alright dear? The king is bringing in beds for Prince Kendall and that other fellow. Don't worry, we weren't going to let him separate you too. He's been helpful to your recovery, hasn't he? It's so nice to have him back. And sweet to see him so deep in love." the nurse prattled on a bit, but her intentions were good.

Kendall was lifted and placed into the bed once it was placed next to Kyria's. Tyrion was also placed in a bed, but his wasn't right next to Arisa's. It seemed the healers weren't sure if Tyrion was helpful to Arisa's recovery in the same way, but weren't willing to have him completely gone from the room in case he was helping somehow.
