But I'm just telling you that everyone else will think Johnny Depp invented it. confused

But I'm just telling you that everyone else will think Johnny Depp invented it. confused That bothers me to no small degree. I like pirates before Depp and all the poser pirates that emerged after the movie irked me something awful. They're not real pirates. They dont even know how to be real pirates. Davy Jones is the devil, not some squid man. He can crap krakens left and right if he wanted to. And he sure as hell isnt command of the Flying Dutchman. The Dutchman isnt even a pirate ship. About the only good pirate lore that movie spawned was the aztec gold curse.

I have no doubt in my mind that Hollywood ******** up yet another chance to make something decent, and then didn't.
And as far as the history lesson goes, thanks for the info. It makes me not hate the pirate movies as much. (:

I'm a fact book of Pirate Knowledge. Cant be a Space Pirate if you dont know Pirates. The Best Pirate in recent history was a woman, interestingly. Her name was Ching Shih and through cunning and brutality she managed to assemble a fleet of some 400 ships.

From Prostitute to Pirate queen, she's quite a success story. She quit the pirate racket later in her life when the government started getting the upperhand on her activities. She retired to run a Casino/Brothel in Canto, dying at the age of 66 in 1844.
