lionqaletaqa subiani
Name: Qaletaqa [guardian of the people] Subiani [evil spirit]. Pronunciation: KAH-LAY-TAH-KUH Gender: Male. Pride: Ela'wadiyi [Shadow Clan]. Rank: Youth.
Mate: N/A. Offspring: N/A. Parents: Father - Ona'raha Subiani. Mother - Rehema. Siblings: Eeva Subiani [sister], Kohana Subiani [brother], Taradhia Subiani [brother], Taladu Subiani [brother]. Fala Subiani [brother], Chuwusuke Subiani [brother], Laka Subiani [sister], Masumi Subiani [sister]. Tsiya Subiani, [brother] Notaku Subiani [brother], Do'tsu Subiani [brother], Pumzikio Subiani [sister], Poa Subiani [brother], Howi Subiani [brother].
Roleplay: Closed. Color: Sienna.
Personality: A quiet, humble character, Qaletaqa Subiani generally prefers to sit back and be the listener of conversations. This he does with an air of slight distance, often seeming as though he is zoning out in the middle of listening to the speaker. Quite on the contrary, he listens to every word and recognizes the inflection used on each of them. Thus, he finds himself often reading between the lines and figuring out what others are subconsciously trying to tell him without being asked. With this useful ability comes a sort of shouldering of responsibility in him, which he takes on willingly and never divulges information that should not be spread about. His ability to read between the lines means that he can always separate the gossip from the secrets, and while he keeps both to himself regardless, he guards the secrets - both his own and those of others - fervently. They are not, after all, his secrets to share.
His sense of protecting spreads not only to secrets, but to his family as well. He is naturally a very protective lion, willing to shoulder, or at least to share, others' burdens in order to see them happy and well. He doesn't mind sharing in the anger, sadness, guilt, or anything otherwise in order to make sure his family is safe.
This quality in him points to another - the ability to very clearly differentiate between right and wrong. While he understands the gray area in between, the dividing line between black and white is very clear for him, and regardless of whether or not he choose to cross it, he is always conscious of where his decisions and actions fall within the spectrum.
Still, he is by nature a very humble creature, and despite anything he might do to aid his family, the modesty within him means that he rarely acknowledges his actions. Although not shy and not at all self-depreciating in any way, he is a very down-to-earth and often unassuming character who accepts praise but does not generally need it. His glory rests in seeing those he loves happy and safe, and thus any acknowledgment of his hand in helping with that is something really quite little in comparison.
Because of this, he seems to find his name too heroic in meaning to be suited for him. While he enjoys the name, his ever-present knowledge of its meaning seems to almost embarrass his modest soul. Thus, even if he is unsuccessful in convincing his family members to do the same, he often requests for others to know and refer to him by a less imposing name of "Nuka", meaning "younger sibling".

lionraziela liron
Name: Raziela [My secret is with God] Liron [My song; my joy]. Pronunciation: RAH-zee-EH-la, lee-RON Gender: Female. Pride: Suka'Fumo. Rank: Noble.
Mate: N/A. Offspring: N/A. Parents: Kuvunjwa Kivuli [father] x Mwitu Maua [mother]. Siblings: Nyota Vumbi [sister], Kujua Kuangalia [sister], Zambarau Kivuli [brother], Pur'Jed [sister], Madunia [sister]. [x] Extended Family: Kiri'ua [aunt]
Roleplay: Open. Color: Dark Orchid.
Personality: Raziela is very much her father’s daughter, having inherited his laid-back outlook on life. She places strong emphasis on destiny, believing that what will be will be, regardless of any attempts to change the course of fate, and that the best – indeed, the only – way to cope with the twisting lines of life is to allow the current to take her where it will. As such, although she fully accepts and respects the duties and expectations on her shoulders, she maintains a relatively open attitude to everything, and is ever-willing to consider new ideas.
For Raziela, the secret to the greatest joys in life lies in performance. She enjoys nothing as much as spending hours watching the players perform, and often fantasizes about life as a player, and the thrill of being able to switch between alternate personas in the blink of an eye – essentially, being able to control life and fate, even just for a little while.
She often wonders as to what it would be like to have such control, given her belief in the omnipotence of destiny, and it is not entirely rare for her to spend hours pondering aloud the many facets of life.
She is, however, very grateful to her parents to having raised her, and although she merely accepts the duties of her rank, more as a necessary evil than anything, and does not entirely embrace them, she does her best to avoid letting her family down.
Extra: About her name, clearly in this case, her secret does not lie with the God we know, so for this girl, I’m thinking that instead of with God, it would be interpreted more as with fate, or destiny. Therefore, her secret lies with fate as in her secret desire to be more like the players or as in her secret to happiness lies not with her but with fate, and there is nothing she can do about it. It can be interpreted in so many ways that I thought it was really beautiful.
--
Had she not been so strictly convinced of the absolute power of fate (and, thus, the absolute impotence of wishful thinking), Raziela would have sorely wished to be her sister. Nyota Vumbi and the term rebel were synonymous, and Nyota’s apparent disregard for rules and conventions allowed the young lioness almost free reign within the pride. Nothing held Nyota back when she felt the urge to befriend a commoner, flee from home, or even just to dance to her heart’s content.
If life had not been what it was, Raziela would have wanted to be the same.
She wanted the same fiery, irrepressible spirit and the freedom that that spirit warranted. She wanted the carelessness that would allow her to frolic and play wherever she so chose and, most importantly, she wanted the courage to be able to approach the group of players, always so boisterous and unrestrained in their merrymaking, and join in with their festivities.
Raziela had always perceived a sense of lawlessness around the players, as if what little understanding she had of them made them forbidden fruit. She wished she could harvest part of their untroubled lives, if only to cultivate it with her own, so that she might be somewhat like them.
She was under no illusions that she would ever be a player, or that she would ever even fit in with a group of players. She understood, perhaps too well, the limitations of her life and soul, but she would always have her dream – to be able to unlock the secrets of joy and love and laughter, and to enjoy them as most creatures could not.
If only her destiny was not so set in stone.

lionniyol
Name: Niyol [wind]. Gender: Male. Pride: Tuait'tekem. Rank: Guardian.
Mate: N/A (Plots with Maa-nefer). Offspring: N/A. Parents: ?? x ??. Siblings: ?? [sister], ?? [brother]. Extended Family: N/a
Roleplay: Open. Color: Dark Goldenrod.
Personality: Niyol grew up learning to dislike the way of pridal life. Due largely to his parents’ teaching, he believes that living in a pride spoils lions and leaves them unable to properly fend for themselves. This belief is deeply rooted, and although he can be convinced to join a pride, he would do it more out of duty for his family than anything. Given the way he grew up, family is everything to him, and he would do anything to protect those he loves. (However, as time passes, he will likely begin to see the benefits of living in a pride, and would grow less and less opposed to it and probably even begin to enjoy it. And, after all, if he’s with his family, he couldn’t be happier.)
He is quite outgoing, the type that can make friends in an instant, and never afraid to have fun. He can be both charming and eloquent when he wants to be, and often uses both gifts to befriend others. Having been close with his sister, he seems to prefer female company, and his charm comes in handy when he feels the need to surround himself with female friends.
Niyol’s sense of fun comes largely in the form of jokes and lighthearted teasing. As a cub, he enjoyed nothing more than spending the day exchanging pleasantries and jokes with his brother. He has also learned that, with a twinkle in his eye and a cheeky grin on his face, it isn’t difficult to tease without offending.
His main flaw lies in the fact that he can be a little too egotisical, stubborn, and/or overconfident. Having grown up as the eldest in a litter of three, he is used to being uncontested, as well as right. As such, when he thinks one way, he is convinced that his train of thought, and his train of thought alone, is correct. He is always the more dominant one in a relationship because of his stubbornness, which tends to fit in well with his traditionalist view on gender roles. He’s a bit of a guy’s guy, and has very specific, fixed ideas of what a male’s role should be and what a female’s role should be, and is vehemently against the idea that any sort of interchanging should happen between these two roles.
History: Niyol was born to rogue parents who raised him to share their muted contempt for pride life. They bestowed upon him a name meaning “wind” in the hopes that he would, like them, forever wander the land as free of ties and bonds as the wind.
They were a close family, growing to rely heavily on each other in the absence of a pride. Because they numbered only five lions including Niyol’s parents, Niyol and his brother and sister began to take on chores at a young age. These chores shaped the three up to be responsible, as well as neat.
When Niyol’s father disappeared one day, his mother became extremely distraught. Having grown up with him, she found herself barely able to function in his absence. She reached a point where her anguish and distress left her unable to think about anything else, and resorted to leaving the family territory in search of her mate.
Her children, now almost adolescents and unwilling to leave the comfort and familiarity of their childhood home, remained together, surviving by hunting small game and learning to remain relatively unnoticed within the land. But even surviving became a struggle when other rogue lions, no longer held at bay by the presence of two adult lions protecting their children, began to wander into the territory. Eventually unable to hold their ground against older lions, the three children split up, with Niyol’s brother headed to look for his parents, the sister headed further inland, and Niyol himself headed toward the sea.

liontilifika
Name: Tilifika [be lost]. Gender: Female. Pride: Aka'mleli. Rank: Storyteller.
Mate: Lor'dah. Offspring: Nymeria [daughter], Jedi [son], Dar'fuku [son], Dahfika [daughter]. Parents: ?? x ??. Siblings: N/A. Extended Family: N/a
Roleplay: Open. Color: Pale Violet Red.
Personality: [From contest thread] A juvenile when the earthquake seperated her from her home, Tilifika grew up outside of the society she loved (under the watchful eye of Sikivu, being youngest of the group), and as such worries how her return will be felt. She was softspoken as a cub, but she grew into a fiery, headstrong female. Tilifika doesn't take no for an answer, and she strives for lofty goals. Her wish is to really be something to remember. Also, being with Chewa wouldn't be so bad, either. She is paired to the male vulture Pisha ('guide'). ----- Also somewhat rash and impulsive, Tilifika will do things without first thinking through all of the consequences. She wants everything to be wonderful at all times, and will stop at nothing to make it so. She also appears to have little concern for her own appearance, and is never afraid to get her paws dirty.
History: Although she was born within the Aka'mleli, Tilifika was separated from the pride as a juvenile, and as such, spent her formative years away from the pride, and as such, although she has spent most of her life wanting to return to the Aka'mleli, her real attraction to the pride is rooted more in the idea of home that it represents, rather than the pride itself.
When she was separated from the pride in the earthquake, she joined the group of survivors led by Sikivu, traveling to return to the valley, which they accomplished shortly after she became an adult.

vulturepisha
Name: Pisha [guide]. Gender: Male. Pride: Aka'mleli. Rank: Bonded to Tilifika.
Mate: N/A. Offspring: N/A. Parents: ?? x ??. Siblings: N/A. Extended Family: N/a
Roleplay: Open. Color: Cadet Blue.
Personality: A rather more serious character, Pisha tends to mother his bond quite a bit, despite being a male. He is more cautious than Tilifika, who tends to charge headlong into any situation, and often reminds her to do the same. He is watchful and protective, and should anything befall the bright lioness, he will defend her with his life - rather like a mother bear. He is also extremely aware of appearances, constantly correcting Tilifika's posture and grooming her, and will often judge others by them.
He refers to his bond as "Ka" and takes offense to anyone who tries to do the same. Despite having a nickname for Tilifika, he balks at the idea of being called anything other than Pisha, and makes it painfully obvious every time the young lioness calls him "Peesh."

wilddogkichatothi
Name: Kichatothi [crazy fool]. Gender: Male. Pride: Rogue. Rank: N/a.
Mate: N/A. Offspring: N/A. Parents: ?? x ??. Siblings: N/A. Extended Family: N/a
Roleplay: Open. Color: Dark Orange.
Personality: Kichatothi is, to put it bluntly, not quite right in the head. Even as a pup, his insanity was evident - so much so, in fact, that his mother quite aptly named him "crazy fool" even only days after his birth.
He tends to inhabit many different guises, according to the situation and his own mood, including Kapena Awesome ("Captain Awesome"), Nemo ("nobody"), and many more, and is rarely ever just Kichatothi. He firmly believes that he is each and every one of those alternate personalities, and can be surprisingly convincing of his character. He also tends to come up with more personas on the spot, and as he was also blessed with an incredible memory, has never forgotten any of them. Kichatothi lives in a fantasy world of rainbows, unicorns, and lurking ninjas everywhere, and thus guards his "true name" with fervor.
Barring the insanity, Kichatothi is also very brave - although perhaps his courage stems solely from an inability to grasp the concept of fear - and has been known to charge blindly into dangerous situations without ever pausing to consider his own mental and physical wellbeing (the former being rather redundant anyway).
