About the Family
Mleli, the mother: Mleli is not a very nice leopardess. She and Ajali were orphaned when they were young, and raised with a group of other orphaned leopards. When Mleli hit adolescence, she went off to be on her own and left Ajali behind. She's always believed leopards to be the best of the creatures out there, and never has she hesitated to let anyone know how arrogant she is about it- even to lion gods. One of the gods she told off, though, tried to teach her a lesson about being prejudice by disguising himself as a leopard. She ended up pregnant with leopons, and angrier than ever with lions. This is when Ajali showed up again, offering to help raise the cubs with her. Mleli did not abandon them because she did not want more orphans in their family, and because they were still her cubs. She was not a great mother, greatly lacking in the affectionate side of maternity, but she provided for them and was not abusive. The cubs grew up with her prejudice and generally with her own attitude, which backfired when two demanded information on their father. Four ended up running away to look for Limbuko, two have stayed and Ajali went and got herself pregnant as well. Determined to have better cubs, and to not be outshone by her sister, Mleli took the very first chance she could to get pregnant again.
While her pregnancy ends with fewer cubs than Ajali's, Mleli is not going to give Ajali that small "victory" and is absolutely convinced that her own son is the best of the three. To her, this new cub is absolutely perfect and can do no wrong. She'll have absolute confidence in everything he does, give him more than the benefit of the doubt in situations where he may have gone wrong, believe he is the smartest and most handsome leopard there is.. all of it. Mleli is very proud of her leopard son. This is probably the single most important part of the all the information you have to read.
Ajali, the aunt: When Mleli ran off in their adolescents, Ajali was not sad, but nor was she pleased. Used to having the rather grouchy leopardess around Ajali took off to find her sister a few months after her disappearance. Ajali is the ying to Mleli’s yang she is perky, upbeat, and mentally ‘the elevator doesn’t go all the way to the top,’ if you get my drift. She enjoys watching and caring for her nieces and nephews and was saddened greatly at their disappearance, discovering another leopard while searching for the young leopards Ajali stumbled upon a male and “went and got herself pregnant.” Ajali’s spare time is spent trying to find Duma friends and mimicking other creatures that she meets. Her crazy quirks are what make her a very fine aunt wink . She is pleased that her sister has a new child, but won’t treat the new cub the way she does her sons. The new cub will certainly come in third place in Ajali’s eyes; it goes sons, the first litter, new cub
Duma and Hiana the sisters: The two cubs from Mleli's first litter that did not run away but rather declined the invitation from their siblings and chose to stay at home.
Duma decided to stay back while her other siblings went on to find Limbuko because no one in the world could be better than her Mama. Mleli is the star player in all of Duma’s child like fantasies, being a queen and Duma her little princess, of course these are fantasies. The leopon has a very hard time making friends because she tries too hard to be her mother and sees everyone as being inferior to her. Because she looks so much like her mother, she also feels superior to her full siblings (an idea reinforced by Mleli). She’s whiny and craves constant attention from her mother, and for the most part she doesn’t get it. She will be very enraged at the new cub sucking up all of her mother’s time and will possibly leave the family’s tree out of anger.
Hiana is very quiet and underspoken- she barely even talks. When she does, though, it's usually trying to please her mother. She's also very submissive, and as long as she thinks her mother will be okay with it, she'll do just about anything. With respect to the new cub being around and how Mleli feels about him, she'll be heartbroken.
Ka and Ishara the cousins: Ajali's two cubs that Mleli loves to simply ignore, though sometime after the birth of her cub she should start to acknowledge their existance much more.
Ka is an ambitious young cub who wants to please all of the ladies in his life, meaning his two cousins, mother, and Mleli. He will see the new cub as a threat to his position as being 'good boy.' He does not carry the crazy genes however, he's not like his mother in her looney ways. He doesn't have much in ways of imagination, and finds Ishara's games mindboggling. As he grows Ka will become less and less vocal and probably will seem a little dull to all but his mother. In the mean time though he'll be a yes man. He sees the new cub as a threat to his position of "good boy" and fears his own mother will love him more.
Ishara is a cub that pretty much lives in his imagination, to the extent where if he is interrupted he can be quite irritable about it. Because the new cub is helping Mleli pay a bit more attention and is someone more to play with, he'll be friendly with the new cub.
Aeglaeca, Matojo, Kafiri and Mezi the runaways: These are the four siblings that took off. No one knows for sure yet who will all be coming back home, and they won't come into play right away so you can ignore their personalities and interactions having an influence for now! Mleli may talk about them while they're gone, but it won't be too happy when she does, and she won't be speaking too highly of them.
