Personailty: The eldest of his siblings, Dumu can be somewhat bossy and self-important while he tries to fill the gap of both father and now mother to Peke and Kuruka, which often ends poorly with Peke’s temper. Despite this, he is more easily swayed to mischief than the other cubs; a bad trait in a cub that’s supposed to be a role model.
History: Although rogues are not often invited to join the pride, an exception has recently been made. A rogue lioness and her three cubs (Dumu, Peke, and Kuruka) were accepted. He has made close friends with Ufunuo, and when the earthquake hit, his siblings were separated from their mother, and are now orphans.
Ubele convinces Ufunuo, Dumu, Peke and Kuruka to wander off for awhile and play in the heat of the afternoon. During their outing, Peke and Ufunuo get into a fight, causing Kuruka to run off. With the Vultures right above them, Dumu and Peke are able to convince Kuruka to stop playing and run back to the adults.
Dumu wandered out before nightfall. With so few adults responsible for the cubs' safety, it easy for him to slip away and go out on a little 'scouting trip' of his own. He decides to stay out all night and catch something to bring back to the den to prove that he's a hunter and can care for 'his' new pride - unfortunately, as a cub, that simply doesn't happen. Sulking a little, he decides to stay out until he can catch something, and curls up somewhere to sleep for the remainder of the night. However, something else is using the spot he wanted to sleep in: a young female Jackal Buzzard named Kwepa ('Avoid'), who's been hiding out from the vultures after being attacked! When Dumu learns that the vultures are still in the area, the twosome come to the hasty conclusion that any help is better than none, and team up for the night to defend their little sleeping spot.
Dumu woke up to hear voices the next morning. Msiba and Machafuko were right outside his little hiding spot, talking together. Curious, he eavesdropped on the conversation: Machafuko complained that the huntresses won’t let him eat anything they kill. Msiba’s patience was thin with Machafuko, and he walloped his brother across the face, telling him that he’d better be on his best behavior, or else. Msiba then casually drops that Machafuko will be free to torment or kill Elea and Haja once they have the seer child. Unfortunately, it turns out that Dumu’s sister, Kuruka, was also eavesdropping … and gets caught. With an order from Msiba, Dumu watched as Machafuko killed his sibling, saying that she was only a girl and therefore not the one they were looking for. The two older felines then moved on, and Dumu curled up by his sibling and wept. Kwepa tries to comfort him. Umoja finds him and his new bonded there, and Dumu tells him what he’s seen and what he knows about what’s been going on in the pride, and who’s still alive from the earthshake. They decide to wait there for Umoja’s little company to catch up with them.
