Imad Jibril Ratri_Cat Lily Da Bangali Rani Also you keep saying "it's not like no ones going to worship the picture"... When you go to church you pray to a picture... so coming from you it's very weird. I've seen people at church looking at the statues of saint Mary and praying to her... it's a statue for Christ sake... it ain't real! السلام عليكم و رحمة الله و بركاته what the hell are you talking about? Just because there are images doesn't mean we pray to them. We're just looking at them. We know that there is nothing real or alive in the statues or the pictures. We simply LOOK.
there is a difference between worshipping the image and looking at it. we look at the image and happen to pray in that direction. Some are for ornamental purposes only...no one actually worships the very image itself. Ratri, I don't think you'll ever get it. Heck, I'm Muslim and it still baffles me. Just accept it as a weird tradition. Just like how people perceive devotion to Maryam (the Virgin Mary) in Catholicism and as a Christain you believe that Isa (Jesus) is a form of God. Both Lily and you are arguing in circles and practically go off topic as you try to get the last word in. Just drop it. We know the story we told you what the Qu'ran said. If you can't get your mind around it, it's not your fault as you are unaccustomed to Islamic thinking. But please stop this nasty back and forth argument that goes absolutely nowhere.
Yes, I am a flaming Muslim...but Allah loves me!
I Agree with you, all i wanted to do is help you Ratri but instead this is a argument, so forget it...

(Reviving a dead thread. >_>)
I... suppose they would be, yes. Movies and documentaries contain living things.
I understand where this is coming from now. By drawing a living thing, it's almost as though you're trying to create your own creatures, so it could be interpretted as playing God. (Or, in this case, Allah.)
I don't believe in that, but then again, I'm not a Muslim, so... But I do understand now.
But if it's okay to say, I think it's sad that you guys can't have pictures of loved ones. I understand why now, but I feel sorry for you. I'd be upset, you know?

That's ridiculous, I have pictures of my Grand Father, Father, Mother, Pictures of my Child Hood, and many more, The only way Pictures are haram is when you push yourself to believe the picture is real, not pictures themselves are haram, I swear some Muslims think in such a way that every thing except afew things are haram, Probably due to being scared of ANY kind of pleasure of life.

Well I know this isn't "technology" but like lets say for example, A girl wanting to use lip gloss or nail polish before prayer and apparently it's forbidden to Sunnis due to strictly going by the Sunnah, While Other sects think "How does this harm you as long as you don't over due it?" It's the same thing as the concept of pictures and what not.

If it helps, I think all religions (or at least most) are guilty of misinterpretting things and taking them too far.
Christians are told that God loves everyone... but then we see a verse saying "man shall not lie with mankind as he does with womankind" and people go berserk. We have people toting signs that say things like "God hates fags." (Ugh, I hate that last word.)
I think if we all just stuck to the most major of our ideas, the world would be a much better place.
(And technically, I think lipgloss counts as technology. Technology is something created by humans to make tasks easier, and lipgloss makes girls look prettier, so... it makes it easier to find a boyfriend? XD I don't know.)

It probably depends on what you mean by "pure." To be pure on the inside, it doesn't matter what you have on your body. but when it comes to namaz! you have to be pure in terms of body as well!! but you can pray in severe conditions without being pure since you are pure from within (inside) my grandma, when she used to be severely sick she used to pray lying on the bed!! without doing wud'uu that is because the felt pure from inside!! and other point for that girl!! she can add lip gloss after she is done praying of course their won't be any stranger (boy) come her way whom she will impress!!

But don't Muslims pray five times a day? Does that mean she would have to wash off and reapply the lipgloss that often?
