Fictional characters do not make good role models.

I never really had any role models, nor did I really look up to anyone.

I don't think "role models" have ever really existed in my world actually....

neutral

I've made my own way in life. I stand by what I say and believe. I've decided for myself what to do, what to believe and think, pretty much everything.

I have no role models nor am I entirely fit to be one. xd

Some do.

None mentioned yet, but some do. Atticus Finch comes to mind.

This thread needs some serious weeding, but it's too late for that now...

Okay, I'd start by saying that the man who jumps out in my mind is Voltaire. The musician, of course. Why?

1) He actually IS a goth.

2) He's a latino immigrant to America who is financially, artistically, and personally successful. In the past ten years-

- He's published two non-fiction humor books and two full-length graphic novels
- He's been the primary writing and performing force behind 6 full length studio albums (five via label, one self-released), a live album, and two EP's. He and his band are internationally known, and he has hundreds of thousands of fans. He tours five cities a month as a musician, on average, and typically plays to sold-out crowds. All of his albums have been well-reviewed in both goth publications and non-goth publications.
- He's a successful stop-motion animator (a hard field to get into) who has done work for some of the biggest media outlets of the past 20 years- MTV, Nickelodeon, The Super Bowl, and so on.
- He is a college graduate who maintains a frequent job as a professor at his Alma Mater.
- He has been successful in all of his brief dips into toy-design (all of which sell-out rapidly) and fashion design.
- He has a healthy relationship with his son, as far as I've heard.

Sounds like a pretty good role-model to me.

Then there's also the Fox News bit...

were actually thinking about posting him here, ONLY because of that....

but besides him, there is a gay called Ras Bolding witch is a minor celebrity in the danish underground. He is probely one of those people who have done the most for the gothic life style in our area. Kinda a local celebrity.

About that...
Giving your life to your craft is a noble thing. Becoming one of the most famous writers of classic literature is also a terrific thing to look up to. God knows I do.
Now, about being an incestuous, suicidal alcoholic with a tendency towards isolation...

I don't think he's considered a role model anymore than he's considered Goth.
Apart from making a success in the mainstream music, the rest of his life is a total wreck.

I think Madonna could be one. She's a bit creative, the fab@50 thing, and and if it wasn't for her, I wouldn't never added American Brit to my list of personalities.
...Maybe Garfield? sweatdrop

Why? all he is, is a hypocritical LaVey loving coke head who makes uninspired trash covered up by a good gimmick. neutral

Is there something role-model-like in being a grotesque who often is led on by others?
(While I enjoy the grotesque archetype, he didn't do much by his own volition)

You forgot to mention that he embezzles money from his band-mates, frequently mentions in his memoirs that he loves abusing and humiliating his sexual partners (without their consent), and contracted his first venereal condition by age 15.
