Once a quiet, well-mannered female in a pride full of quiet, well-mannered females, her lover’s scorn has torn down the mask that Lorelei once wore and left her bitter. She was a closet intellectual, deeply in love with the mysteries of the natural world, a lesbian, atheist, humorist and romantic dreamer. Since leaving her pride she’s become cynical, impersonal (except to Sao), and gloomy. Running away hasn’t been all bad though. Independence has encouraged her to speak her mind with ferocity and, like her grandmother, there seems to be no hope of shutting her up.

Her reason for holding her silance for so long comes from her strong values of community and family. She's more likely to sacrifice herself for her community than start a rebellion, although one might be mislead by her thorny exterior. She gets satisfaction from helping the sick. In spite of that, her bedside manner could use some work.

Discovering an all female pride will be an enormous boon to Lorelei’s outlook on life. She’ll hope to find a like-minded mate in the pride, female, of course. The pride’s religious beliefs – or lack there of – are also highly appealing to her. Although she is more than capable of defending herself with her claws, Lorelei prefers to spend her time researching the natural world and collecting herbs to test their medicinal properties. She will find the pride’s jungle location ideal for her interests.

...The Story...

Lorelei fell into denial about her sexuality early on in life. She had been betrothed to a male called Wotan for most of her life and accepted that fact without any regrets. As a cub she spent an unusual amount of time around her grandmother, Murigheal, a healer who called herself Sao in private, and inherited many of her traits. She also learned how to conceal them.

When the time came for her to wed Lorelei assumed she would be happy with Wotan. For the most part this was true. Wotan was not an overbearing husband, in fact he mostly ignored her, so Lorelei should have been free to practice her unorthodox beliefs in private, but as time went on her feelings for females became more and more obvious to her and she felt the need to conceal her true self from everyone, even her own family, to avoid suspicion that might draw attention to her sexuality. Homosexuality was considered a crime against the gods and punishable by death or banishment.

Her self-imposed illusions fell apart when she met a female on the boarder named Kijani. By this time Lorelei’s children were nearly grown, giving her more freedom to practice her healing and explore the boarders unsupervised. She hid her affair well, but her guilt haunted her. When Sao mentioned that she planned to leave the lands to avoid re-marrying Lorelei saw an opportunity to finally be with her true love. She gave up everything for Kijani; her home, her children, her husband, her pride. But it was all for naught. When Lorelei and Sao found Kijani they discovered that she was the proud mother of six cubs and happily wed to a male lion, Abu, who learned about his wife’s affair through the two lionesses. Kijani angrily chased Lorelei away, screaming, “You whore! You b***h! Don’t you get it?! It was just for fun!”

Lorelei stopped eating after that. Eventually Sao convinced her to move on, but Lorelei remained bitter about her lover’s scorn. She blamed Abu for stealing Kijani away from her. Now Lorelei and Sao are traveling together, enjoying their freedom to love whom they love, or to not feign a second love any more. They've begun to hear rumors of an all-female pride and are quite interested...

Beautiful, graceful, intelligent, and reserved; Kosa conducts herself in a lady-like fashion at all times, but underneath her exterior Kosa is depressed. She’s convincing at disguising her loneliness, though it gives her great pain to do so, and spends most of her time alone, denying herself the spotlight she craves. Consumed by neuroticism, believing that death is constantly around the corner, she hides from risk and rarely hunts anymore except for small, easy prey, because she fears a large animal could kill her now that she's out of her prime. She claims that the reason she hasn’t taken a mate since Makali'kondo was born is out of respect for her late husband Hori but in fact she’s terrified of love. The truth is twisting her up inside, slowly suffocating her, and she refuses to let it show even if it kills her.

As a cub she was something of a drama queen, competing for the attention of her parents and brothers. Even though she’s always tried to present herself as the epitome of “lady-like” she’s a good huntress. Before she truly learned self control, she would sometimes rough house with her brothers or pounce on them if she got irritated enough, but her "boyish" behavior rapidly disappeared as she aged.

...The Story...

During her name quest Laini met a charming male named Hori. Flattered by his compliments, Laini was convinced by his promise to return home with her once her name quest was complete and bring new life to her small family. At first she insisted they wait until they returned home to consummate their relationship, but Hori’s persistent flirtations wore her down. Laini couldn’t help but notice a change in her lover after their first night together, although she kept her comments to herself, believing that he would take unkindly to her questioning.

Sure enough Hori vanished within a week of their first mating. Heart-broken, yet in no state to return home, Laini attempted to continue her name quest, until the day she noticed her belly starting to swell. She shamefully made her way home, too afraid to give birth in the dangerous rogue lands.

Laini was a cunning girl (she still is) and knew that she could not face her parents under these circumstances. She fabricated a lie: Hori was a bold and courageous lion, the kind-hearted rogue. He fell madly in love with her and vowed that they would return home together. During a moment of… weakness… Hori fathered Laini’s child. This turned out to be quite fortunate, for only a few days after the incident a malicious rogue attacked. Hori gave his life to defend her and the unborn cub. Laini claimed that her new name was in Hori’s honor, for while he succeeded in saving Laini’s life he failed in his promise to return with her.

She's disguised her failure ever since.

Overtime her name took on a new, cruelly ironic meaning known only to her. Jaha-mnamo-Ukosa: the convincing liar.

Timur is an amiable zealot, in human terms, a communist (specificly, Classical Marxism). He believes that all animals are created equal and deserve equal rights, but only hyenas and other canines have the skills to rule a truly utopian society. He refers to those he knows as "my friend" and "comrade." At first glance he's handsome, rugged, sharp witted and sincere. The more time spent with him, the more his volatile nature shows.

Being on his own for so long has made Timur a little off. He seems not to care about the feelings of others or believes that his well-being is more important than anyone else’s problems, and that’s no surprise with an ego the size of a blimp. He believes in poetic justice, that bad people are destined to get what’s coming to them, even if he must deliver their punishment himself, and is so in love with his ideas that he can never see himself for the hypocrite he truly is.

No matter what anyone tells him, he truly believes he is doing the right thing.

...The Story...

Timur was born into a typical hyena clan, where the highest ranked male is still subordinate to the lowest ranked female. Although the injustice of this was obvious to him from a young age, and he had a reputation for disobedience, his views did not take a radical turn until one night during adolescence, when he ventured onto a road and was attacked by a roaring stone monster with two glowing eyes that shone as brightly as the sun. When he awoke he found himself tied to a post with a cast around his front leg, surrounded by two-legged creatures.

His captors eventually released him, why Timur cannot say. He returned to his clan and was startled when the guards forced him to appear before the clan matriarch. She was suspicious of his story and the strange smell on his fur, which he claimed came from the two-legged monsters that kidnapped him. She did not believe this either. When he tried to defend himself the matriarch accused him of spreading rumors to create panic and demoted him to the lowest possible rank as punishment.

When Timur told his story to the other hyenas in his new rank none of them admitted to believing him, but they saw no reason why he should lie, so they made little of his tale and offered sympathy for his sad predicament. Timur was impressed by the way they looked out for others of their rank. He began to wonder what it would be like if everyone treated everyone else as equally as the hyenas in his rank treated each other. He even created elaborate methods by which equality could be used to make their clan better, such as dividing meals equally among all members before anyone was allowed to eat, to ensure that no hyena could cause another to go hungry by taking more than his or her fair share. Timur’s ideas impressed hyenas of his own rank and higher. Suddenly, Timur found himself with enough followers to start a revolution. How could he not take this opportunity to amend the injustices of the matriarch?

Unfortunately, his rebellion failed. He was exiled from the clan along with his fellow dissenters. They blamed him for their exile and abandoned him in disgust. Now Timur wanders the rogue lands alone, proud of his independence. He continues to seek his utopia.

Chache considers himself a just serval, but his morals are stark. Unfortunately, they also dictate his personality. He will often say that he is 'bound' to do something because his moral code tells him it's right, even if he dislikes it. His actions can even be misguided. Although he understands that birds, hares, and other prey animals his size are 'people' he does not associate with them. Except for snakes, against which he holds a mortal vendetta, he has nothing personal against any prey animal, but he considers them his 'enemies' because he believes it is simply their place to be his meal. Still, he shows them mercy if he can.

He is an adventerous serval who enjoys the open road (a passion he believes he inherited from his father). However he will always pause to help a needy creature when duty calls, sometimes sticking around for extended periods of time. Geniality is in his nature, but he stands up fiercely for himself if provoked or disagreed with. He might like to settle down one day, yet wonders if his time would be better spent on more honorable ventures than raising a family. He is also known as Chache Swiftpaw. Other titles include the Great Bird Catcher, the Cobra Bane, and the Hawk Slayer.

...The Story...

It's been a hard road but there are no regrets. Chache was the middle cub in a family of three, with his younger brother Heri, who was never in good health, and his older brother Okoa. Heri died young from a fainting spell while climbing a tree with his family. Only Okoa and Penda saw Heri fall, but Chache had the most difficult time letting go of his little brother until Okoa wisely pulled him away from the scene. Okoa would later fall prey to the appitite of an elderly lion. After witnessing the deaths of his two siblings, Chache took it upon himself to look after his vital but elderly mother, who raised him on fables of righteous and noble creatures. Whether or not her stories were true, Chache believed them with all his heart.

Chache was two years old when his mother became afflicted with the snake bite that would cripple her. Though he saved her life and killed the snake in an act of vengence, her useless leg would hinder her for weeks before she fell prey to a wandering leopard. Penda explained that Chache needed to carry on the legacy of his lost loved ones before she died. She believed that the legacy one leaves behind is the most important measure of a life, and so with his mother's death Chache set out to create a legacy to honor her memory.

More time has passed and Chache has dedicated himself to the protection of the weak, the teaching of the ignorant and the persuit of justice. Although his deeds have won him a degree of fame in some circles, to the majority of Africa he remains unknown. He recently earned the recognition of a near sighted lion called Gavu, after Chache saved his life. Since their meeting he has been going by the name Chache Swiftpaw.

He has joined the demon hunters of Mwako'bi'giza.
