Prof Albus PWB Dumbledore 0_o___V Prof Albus PWB Dumbledore my mom told me that the prayers of those who pray with nail polishes will not be accepted. when a person prays his hands should be clean and that includes his nails. when there's a nail polish, the nail won't really be cleaned. ya i've heard that one ALOT... but the thing is how can the nail be dirty if there is nail polish on it... it's impossible for the dirt to get inbetween the nail and the nail polish the only place the dirt can get is on top which can be cleaned during wudoo... and may I ask where your mom got that prayer isn't accepted when nail polish is on... b/c I've never heard that in the Quran... hehe. my mother told me it's in the Hadith and the Ulamas(both Aleems and Aleemas) always speak of it.the nail being "polished" is not equal to the nail being dirty. it's about the water touching the nails. that's how i see it. xd hmm may you please quote it... and oh can you explain that better b/c I dont think I understand what you mean exactly about touching the nails. Thanks biggrin

I've been told the same thing. Although i do have friends who believe that it's ok to be praying with nail polish on and that it doesn't make that big of a difference. It clearly depends on what you really believe you should do. For me, i think the same way as my mom, that if i have nail polish on, my nails arent really cleaned and that also makes me feel self conscious when i pray so i just take it off. Basically, don't doubt yourself about stuff like that when you pray. If you think it's wrong, dont do it. That's how i like to look at it. =) hmm I agree I mean if your told that and that's what your used to then don't wear it... and if your never told this then I dont think it's a problem... Just do whatever makes you comfortable while doing prayer and does not distract you in any way...

no u cant cuz when u do wudu water should touch all of your skin and nails, but if u are wearing nail polish, and then u do wudu, then the water doesnt touch your nails, so therefore your wudu is invalid and so therefore your namaz is invalid.... 3nodding xd biggrin hope thats explains everything!! hehe! !

kikyo026 im not sure about this but can u wear nail polish a and still pray, many have said that if u have nail polish on ur wudu isnt counted that means neither is ur namiz*prayer* ????so can u or can u not? xp Assalaam waliekum, nail polish is a waterproof paint that covers your nails. In order for your wudu to be valid, the water MUST be in contract with your skin even your fingernails that are covered in polish. If water cant touch the surface of your nail (the real surface) then your wudu and prayer is invalid.

I mean you nails have to be clean and nail polish doesn't dirty them... so I dont get what's wrong with it? And it's never said that "water must touch your nails"... So I think is valid as long as your nails are clean and no dirt is under the nail... but other than that your nail is clean even when you have polish on it

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) strongly commanded us to make proper Wudû and not leave any part dry. One day, when the Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) saw some companions making Wudu in a hurry, he noticed one had left his heel dry. He warned him saying that there will be punishment of fire for this dry heel..." This shows that Wudû is incomplete if one leaves any part dry. Please note that Mehndi (Henna) is not classed like nail polish, and does not affect Wudû because it does not form a barrier on the skin. its a hadith that i found on the net -- (the cyan colour writing -- and the post is also someone elses -- http://infad.usim.edu.my/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=2420

Praise be to Allah.
It is permissible for a woman to colour her nails for the purpose of adornment, with materials that do not cause harm, and there is nothing wrong with her praying with that, unless it is a substance that prevents water from reaching what is beneath it, in which case wudoo’ and ghusl are not valid unless it is removed. If the wudoo’ is not valid then the prayer is not valid.
It says in Fataawa al-Lajnah al-Daa’imah, 5/218:
“If the colour is impermeable, then wudoo’ is not valid unless it is removed before doing wudoo’. If it is not impermeable, then wudoo’ is valid, as is the case with henna.”
And Allaah knows best.
