Desert_Fox_Rommel Fresnel Desert_Fox_Rommel Another thought comes to mind. How does a bag of sand stop thermite? If I recall thermite is self oxidizing so even cutting off the air supply won't stop it from burning. Thermite is, magnesium isn't. Magnesium just has the brute strength to pull oxygen from nearly anything, though apparently not SiO2. Ah ok I thought you meant Class D fires in general. I don't think thermite is a fire so much as an extremely exothermic chemical reaction.
Then again, what more IS fire?

It's two layers of nylon and three inches of styrofoam. It wouldn't even slow the round down. Maybe they should make life jackets with kevlar. mrgreen
How about ceramic plates?
