Innocence The Sin Hello! Okay, I'm going to be making a Akita Neru cosplay over the next few months. I've never made a cosplay before, nor have I used a sewing machine. But, my grandmother has agreed to help with that bit.
Here's the picture I'm usuing for a referance. Akita Neru
A few things I want to know:
What fabric would be best to use for the skirt and shirt?
Any suggestions on how to construct the Arm Sleeve thingies.
And! Which would look better: Shoes and hose/stockings, or shoe cover things.
For fabric you can get some kind of cotton, it looks like she's wearing some kind of blouse... For the skirt I suggest to get a little bit a stiffer fabric so when you iron in the folds, they won't go out. I also suggest that you check if the fabric is see-through for the shirt, since it's a light colour... you don't want that.
I think for the shoes/stockings, you can use shoe covers, since I don't see any shoes in your reference picture. But... it's probably more comfortable to just wear stockings and shoes over it, that is ok too.
For the arm sleeves, just make them fit to your arm. You can use a stretch-fabric, but it's more difficult to work with if you're just learning how to sew. (Trust me, I know all about it. XDD). You can sew some elastic in the top of the sleeves so they won't fall off.
Good luck! I sewed my first cosplay last summer, so I'm sure you'll succeed!

Storm17 Shymedusa http://static.minitokyo.net/view/16/10/25516.jpg I want to cosplay cleo (the girl in the yellow dress) but honestly I dont know where to start. ironically im doing a amateur cosplay workshop in march at the castlepoint convention Normally I just look thorough each item need for the cosplay, going off that picture (since I can't see the rest of her outfit) I'd note the necklace, the tank top thing, the dress and that I'd most likely need a wig. Next I'd figure out whether I am going to buy, make or commission the outfit (buy like at good will or wal-mart). Finally I figure out how I'm going to make what I decide to make, like looking for patterns for the dress and deciding to paint, screen paint or applique the read stripes on to the dress and so on. I hope that helps
This will help me in my Maya Fey cosplay. As for materials...I'm not sure what to do. I want to use something that's thicker than cotton because October in New York City is cold.

Storm17 Wickked_Misse im doing kotoko from chobits.
People keep saying that the kimono pattern is really easy.
And im completely confused.
if anyone could tell me the pattern they used or the site they got the pattern off of, that would be really helpful and apreciated.
http://www.simplicity.com/p-2096-costumes.aspx There is this one from simplicity and I'm sure other sewing companies have their own.
I used this pattern for my kimono, but I altered it a little. I made it longer. ^_^ But it's a good pattern. Sewing the obi is a little difficult in this pattern, so I decided to create a normal obi (simply long and straight) and learned how to tie it myself.

GS Sailor Typhon Okay I need advice on doing these five Cosplay's Incase I pick one over the other. 1. Mistress 9 http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e100/Unishia-San/PossibleRei.jpg 2. Sailor Mars http://i217.photobucket.com/albums/cc190/sakurasgrl100/Sailor Mars/mars_sketch.jpg 3. Sailor Saturn http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s255/jillvalentine24/Sailor_Saturn.jpg 4. Konata Izumi Winter Uniform http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a161/Navi_Lain17/konata-1.gif Summer Uniform http://i701.photobucket.com/albums/ww19/Tomoyo_fantasy/konata-1.gif 5. Hanon - Mermaid Melody http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff307/reinizelle2008/hanon.jpg
Hey there I will try my very best to give you some advice for all of them. 1. MISTRESS 9 a heavy drill cotton would be perfect for the top, and a polycotton would be alright for the skirt, i would line the skirt as the cotton is abit see through. The beads you should be able to get on a line and you will have to mark and hand sew them on to the top, someone may have to help you do the pearls around your arm.
2. SAILOR MARS AND SATURN Get yourself a simpicity (i think) ice-skating pattern with a skirt attatched to it, make the skirt bigger. Fabrics I would say matt white lycra, dutchesse satin. The hip-roll is possibly the most annoying part of the costume. use this guide to help make bows and collars. http://www.lynleigh.com/cosplay/sewingtutorials/ its very good and i used it for my sailor scouts. Use fimo to make accessories unless you are buying them. Buy the tiaras.
3. KONATA I havent had much experience with the top, but a pleated skirt pattern would be great for the skirt.
4.MERMAID MELODY Which one you planning on doing as there is 3 on the link. :S

Qianna OhNoesItsMiho Heeeey, everybody!! ^^ Well, I decided that I'm going to go as KiKi from KiKi's Delivery Service. I need help on 2 things lol. First off, what color is her dress? I've been looking up some cosplay photos and some of the dresses were black, dark blue, and dark purple. Which color is it!? D: In the movie she did mention the color of her dress. It was black, right? Second, does it matter what kind of broom I use? I mean color wise. I can't machine sew worth my life (bad experience in home ec 8th grade) so I'm basically knitting her outfit. x Kiki is so awesome!! I think her dress is black... Either black or veeeery dark purple. But I'd go for black.
The colour of broom doesn't matter, as long as its shape is somewhat similar to the one Kiki has.
Good luck knitting! I can sew way better than I can knit, now I'm knitting a cosplay... >_>;;
I agree, definitely go for black. I love Kiki!!!
