Shrantic EDIT: Well, IIRC, the M16 was made by Armalite, but then adopted by Colt. But AR-15's aren't always made by Armalte, either. They're just models that are made by multiple companies. The AR-15 was invented by Eugene Stoner, working for Armalite (thus AR-15). The idea was seen as unmarketable after the failure of the AR-10 (IIRC), and sold to Colt. Colt got a government contract for the M16. It was a pile of s**t, so they revamped it as the M16A2, and it was much, much better. Personally, I suspect Colt to still be inferior to most other major brands.
If you notice, many companies do not actually sell "AR-15" rifles, because the name is trademarked. Bushmaster sells the M-15, for example.

Shrantic Sheet metal garbage. Quote: It didn't get to be the most popular submachine gun for special forces in the world by being garbage. Don't get me wrong, not everything popular is good, but I've never read a single reason why the MP-5 series is bad, just that it is bad.

Well, and the sights are better designed for CQB than most others.
