Fursuits seem to be what causes the most trouble in the fandom.

I think this'll in the end ammount to the CSI thing...we're going to remember it longer then anyone else. Also, ever seen america's next top modle?

I think being insulted by Tyra is kind of a compliment.

I've only recently entered the fandom....I've only been around it since easter in fact. However, in that time I've discovered alot of ups, and downs.

My perception was largely based on the idiots before the curiosity and interest finally won over. The view I'd been exposed to of furries was primarily freaky dickvore rape and fursuit humping. So I can say clearly this is what I thought I found myself attracted to, thus my extreme reluctence.

Once I managed to get to know a few furries, and communicate with them, I suddenly felt this -enormous- weight lifted off my back. And a suddenly a sort of ...I don't know. Racial shame? If we where a race.

I mean not much. But that tingle is there everytime I see something like this. And when its outside of furry produced media, this is almost -always- what you see of us. I think the saddest part is; most of the furries I've met are some of the sweetest, most open and loving people, even if they are cynical crabby naysayers.

Its really sad that there are people that are going to refuse to know them because they think they like to have sex in a skunk suit.


ALSO as an aside...

Wouldn't it be monsterously uncomfortable AND messy to have sex in a fur suit? Also them bitches is expensive. I wouldn't wanna ruin them.

It's funny the fact that people reacted in a negative way at this couple having sex in fursuits but they didn't flickle too much at the ones that loved watching strangers have sex with their spous.

*raises hand* How are we defining fursona? Any furry character the player has, or a furry character designed to represent their player specifically?

hmmm not really sure. i guess when i use the word Fursona i should be meaning more towards the character designed to represent the player specifically. but i kind of opened it to the possibility of sexual situations during rp. I just never figured the character wouldnt be based of the player in some way.

anyway RP definately counts. I should have edited that statement to; " I dont know a single furry that hasn't involved themselves in some form of sexual activity within the fandom."

Oh, certainly, yes. A couple of my characters started out for the purpose of sexual roleplay.

But the character I use to actually represent myself has never been involved in anything sexual. Then again, I don't use her for anything - I draw pictures of her, and that's it.

im the opposite i basically use my fursona in everything. rp and rl i've developed an alterior personality for some of my more controvertial art works. though i mean i actually have only rp yiffed maybe once or twice in my since i became a furry so far, but draw him in my commics in rather.... unsettleing and dirty dirty ways. lol.

even when i do starwars role play, which has rules against using species that are made up or non-cannon. So i basically take my Sheep 'sona and pretend he is a Bothan or something of the sort.

yeah i havent changed my avatar on sl once from the sheep av in about four or five months.

I have friends that call me Luna, because she was my most well-known RP character years before Cassikitty was developed. In a way Cassikitty was a response to Luna, because while Luna and I shared a personality and interests, she was always thrown to extremes, and never meant to really represent me.

Besides, Luna was a lizard. And while lizards are interesting, I'm a cat person. I couldn't model a 'sona for myself based on an animal I wouldn't be willing to spend long periods of time with. Lizards are fun to watch for a few minutes, but its cats I'd rather have in my lap while I read or against my side while I sleep.

Ah, yes. The good ol' Tyra Banks fiasco.

I remember when this hit FA. I got several journals from people I was watching, primarily (and ironically) telling people to get over it. Took me a while to get to watch the show myself and see what the fuss was about. (I didn't watch the whole thing, just the first few minutes.)

The furry fandom has sexual components just as any fandom has sexual components. Why? Because humans are sexual. The very fact that furry characters are of human form means that there will be an inevitable sexual stigma there. I've doodled my fursona posing or acting in a sensual way before. (Not explicit, though; I loathe porn for personal reasons, but that's a story for another day.)

What with myself being into BDSM, I hold a deep and sympathetic respect for other kinks. I do not hold a grudge against Chewfox and Tomcat (or whatever they're called). Their bedroom is their own. The thing that irked me so much about the video was that Banks basically said "Furries are people who have sex in fursuits." This generalization could not be farther from the truth! As people have pointed out, fursuits are pricey things. Few furs have them, and fewer of those would be willing to ruin them that way.

Whenever my art comes up in a social context, I usually default to the term "anthro artist" at first. After I warm up to my conversation partner a bit, if the topic's still relevant, I will ask if they've ever heard of "furry" and then proceed to explain that it is the term used to describe the anthropomorphic fandom. I make sure to address the sexual stereotypes and explain that while there is an element of truth to them, one should not generalize. So far no one I've spoken to had even heard of the furry fandom before, so I didn't have to worry about potential backlash.

My mate (not a fur) is uneasy when I call myself a furry. He fears for me. I can understand his fear, which is partially why I start out with "anthro artist." But even though I leave FA's filter on and haven't attended any cons, I still consider myself a full-blood furry and am proud to be a member of this fandom.
