Phi glanced to the Professor now addressing them to Jessica. As much as her logic erupted about any thought besides the obvious of asking Jessica to take the books in her Slytherin accessibility, something else cried as well. Whether logic, or emotion and sheer craze, it did not introduce itself before taking control and speaking itself into words.
"I can take them, Professor."
Placing a hand over top the books just off to her side, as though claiming them and the message her doing so rang into air.

Quick, boastful strides had ventured the Hispanic professor from his office towards his classroom, where, his first class of the day had awaited him. As the door swung open with the flick of his wand, a watering can levitated off of his desk and began to douse the foliage scattered throughout the back wall of the classroom. Manually grasping a stick of chalk from a board, Angel proceeded to sprawl the details of the next spell upon the board, ready and waiting for the students.

”Glad to see you again—today, we will be practicing the counter charm to what you learned yesterday, which, is considerably more difficult, the reason being, is that most people, or well, students for that matter, find much more ease in destroying something, than recreating it.

“Instead of beginning with the zigzag, this time, you’ll point at the object, and then finish with a zigzag—but when you conclude, you have to remember, not to thrust or make any essential point towards the object, because if you do, then it’s very possible that anything can go wrong.

“Repeat after me, and then, you can give it a go and begin practicing.”
After a short round of chorus pertaining to the pronunciation of the spell, he cast a silent wave of his wand which had conjured a series of iron, or steel, all clad with a deteriorating film of rust.

Quote:

Name of the spell: Inveratus
Pronunciation of the spell: In-VET-er-A-tus
Meaning behind the name: Inveteratus meaning: hardened by age, of long-lasting
Effects of the spell: Reverses the effects of rust on any iron based object
Wand movements required to perform properly: With a stiff wrist, thrust the point of the wand towards the object, and conclude with a zigzag motion
Is there a distance requirement?: Item must be within sight
Are the effects lasting?: The effects last upon the object until the spell is reversed, or, over time, and weather permitting, rust may again appear if unkempt.

with open ears, and eyes shining with a new eagerness that eclipsed any other numb thought from her mind, Phi listened, watching with intense learning. Taking out her own wand and attempting the procedure of motion following the example of Professor Amorocho with eyes set to the extreme measure of detail in both physical fluidity and spoken word. After the brief set, she turned to write everything said and everything written on the board before her and turned to the same door knob that suddenly appeared before her.
Gears of her thought and analysis naturally beginning to turn once given the freedom of working on the problem at hand. Observation and theoretical thought blossoming as she critiqued and thought and re-thought not only the motion and concentration of the spell, but also the method of science it incorporates. Re-enforcement of an object - a creation of strong structure and hold and fortification. And as he thoughts began to fade in decision and her wand raised in readiness of magic, a new thought occurred. A further observation of surroundings that showed the absence of a Slytherin boy.
"In-VET-er-A-tus." she command with instant result; the knob seemed to stand at attention, the loose security bind as well as the gears and grooves of the inner mechanism of the lock straightened and wavered with instant flux. Materializing bonds and construction, they almost shone with the same glint of success found in Phinelia's eyes as she looked at her finished work of magic and the re-enforced knob.

Jessica Sassareth

Slytherin, Third Year

User Image Jess had awaited the arrival of Professor Amorocho and began to scribe while the man wrote on the board:

Name of the spell: Inveratus
Pronunciation of the spell: In-VET-er-A-tus
Meaning behind the name: Inveteratus meaning: hardened by age, of long-lasting
Effects of the spell: Reverses the effects of rust on any iron based object
Wand movements required to perform properly: With a stiff wrist, thrust the point of the wand towards the object, and conclude with a zigzag motion

Are the effects lasting?: The effects last upon the object until the spell is reversed, or, over time, and weather permitting, rust may again appear if unkempt.

With her writing, Jessica added a wand motion diagram for her own benefit to help with her memorization. Then, the pale redhead mentally rehearsed the spell in her mind, reading and rereading her notes. Next, Jess stood up and picked the piece in the absolutely worst condition: a rusted and broken old padlock.

Taking the contents of the trap holding the broken pieces of the ancient lock back to her desk, Jess took a minute or two in studying it -- especially the worn away outer casing exposing the inner workings of the lock. After the redhead's intense scrutiny, she visualized how the locking mechanism would have actually worked in it's original condition.

Now Jess was ready with a firm idea of what she wanted in her mind with crystal clarity. Holding out her Cypress wand with it's Sphinx Mane hair core, Jessica first pointed at the old lock, then made a zigzag motion with a flick of her wrist. Speaking the command, Jess uttered, "In-VET-er-A-tus!"

First the inner gears and springs as the layers of rust seemed to reassemble inside the lock. Then Jess noticed that tiny particles seemed to stream in toward the ancient lock from all directions as the outer casing became fully restored. When Jess was finished, the lock was no longer tinged brown but now blacked steel. Setting with in the lock's keyhole, was it's key which had broken off long ago inside the mechanism.

Putting her Cypress wand away, Jess' sly smile crept across her face in satisfaction.

William Dante Nott the Third

As he sulked into the classroom with eyes dark and smoldering, the young beast of a man slithered within breathing fire and fury. Barely hidden beneath a veneer of indifference, he silently made his way towards a seat near the center, but rows, behind both other girls who sat in attendance. The vicious fight upon the grand staircase was fresh in his mind, triggered, by the tame lion that he had passed in the hall, hiding, within the shadows. The lion had never seen him hiding there. Mulling over his demise, his mind was already spinning the web of a new plan, a new attack, one where he remained elusive and in the shadows.

All of this had contradicted his focus as he sat and guided his wand in zigzag parry, casting light upon the simply tarnished steel ring on his desk. ”In-VET-er-A-tus,” he had repeated, for the third time and third cast, which had finally corrected the failures of each previous distinction, exerting an illuminous glow upon the sparkling silver metal band.

Perusing across the classroom with long, slow winded strides, Professor Amorocho had set the intensity of his gaze upon each student in turn as they set about at their own pace, casting incantations and purposeful motions, those brilliantly sparkling eyes studying each and their technique. ”Good, very good.” He had congratulated both girls, an inquisitive glance absorbing the detail of the rustic door knob and padlock.

Striding towards the back, he took note of the auburn streaked boy that troubled with the spell at first, ”Mr. Nott, that’s very good, keep a clear mind, and do keep practicing.” On a beat, he treaded towards the head of the classroom with a keen smile on his face.

”Students, tomorrow we will begin work on our first potion, the baleful brew, which, has the potential to extinguish any sense of fear, worry, anxiety, or paranoia, from the drinker… If brewed properly, of course.

“However, I’m willing to make this a bit more interesting if you’re willing not to divulge what I’m about to say to anyone, not even your housemates, si?

“Well—I will allow the first student to keep a small portion of their potion, if, it’s the first potion that’s done correctly. But in order to do that, we’ll need to be prepared for the potion which will require a bit of prep time.

“The first step for tomorrow’s potion requires a separate mixture to boil for over twenty four hours before ever being added to the cauldron. We are going to be taking dried venomous tentacula leaves and dried asphodel leaves in a mortar, crushing them to a powder form; followed by a douse of essence of dittany, and, flobberworm mucus. Does everybody know how to properly use the scouring charm?”

[[Not sure how I'll be doing this, but, I believe I'll use the dice system to determine who finished first, and correctly.]]

Several silent flicks and flurries of his wand had led directions to be scribed upon the chalk board that stood at the forefront of the classroom adjacent the students desk. Today, bronze cauldrons were placed at the head of every desk, which, for this class, had transformed into a longer wooden table to accommodate all of the ingredients and materials deemed necessary. Hasty steps manually pushed a cart that he had prepared with all of the ingredients and measuring cups needed and several of the rarer ingredients were already bottled to the exact increment, as well.

”Today, you will be finishing the Baleful brew, last class, we began with the first step by scouring flobberworm mucus, since we did not have enough time, I took the liberty of completing the first step for you which requires a twenty four hour preparation period. Before you begin, I would like you direct your attention to step number four.

“That step specifies that, as you stir the contents in the cauldron, you’re allowed to stir clockwise as many times as need be, it does not matter, but if you decide to stir counterclockwise during this step, you may only stir eighteen full circle strokes, at the most, and at the least, no more. So, you really don’t need to stir counterclockwise because of the risk involved, if you do it one too many times or less, then the chances of the potion brewing successfully are significantly reduced, but if you do decide to stir counterclockwise—remember, only eighteen strokes—and manage it successfully, it will actually increase the rate of success for the potion. Now, if nobody has any more questions, you may begin brewing….

And remember, the first one to bring me the perfect potion gets to keep a small portion, and the added bonus of twenty points to your house.”

Quote:
Baleful Brew- All sense of fear, worry, and paranoia are gone, the drinker will be encouraged to act upon basic and primal impulse, eradicating any emotion and fear, and the drinker will successfully be able to do what they otherwise could not. For example, a man too fearful to fly will feel no qualms while under this potion.

1 ½ cup of Essence of Dittany
3/5 cup of flobberworm mucus
3 grams of dried Asphodel leaves
1 ounce crushed Wormwood
1 handful of Aconite flowers
1/5 cup of molten Antimony
4 Doxy eggs
2 Dragon livers
5 Eel eye
5 1/3 grams of dried Venomous Tentacula leaves
12 pints of syrup of Hellebore
6 fl. Oz of Salamander blood
11 grams of Scurvy grass
2 grams of Lovage flowers
1 milligram of powdered unicorn horn

1. Mix and stir Dried Asphodel Leaves with the Dried Venomous Tentacula leaves in a mortar and crush until contents are near powder form, and then pour into a separate basin. Stir in 1 ½ cups of Essence of Dittany, and 3/5 cup of flobberworm mucus into the basin (preferably with a wand) and let simmer for twenty four hours to let the powder absorb.
2. Pour Salamander Blood into your empty cauldron and set to boil. After precisely six minutes, drop each Dragon Liver in, one at a time, while slowly mixing in, and then let sit and boil.
3. Once the mixture comes to a boil, stir in the asphodel, venomous tentacula, essence of dittany, flobberworm mucus mixture into the cauldron *only* stirring counterclockwise. The thick, red and course potion should take on a thinner, smoother texture now.
4. Once the mixture has liquefied, stir clockwise as need be, but *only* stir counterclockwise eighteen strokes at the most, or least. (See Professor for Further Instruction)
5. Drop in the Doxy Eggs and sprinkle in one handful of Aconite Flowers.
6. The potion should then immediately morph into a deep and vibrant violet color, wafting fumes of pink hues.
7. Stir in one ounce of Crushed Wormwood, and only *six* ounces of Syrup of Hellebore.
8. Allow contents to boil for over ten minutes before stirring in five Eel Eyes.
9. Also, combine Scurvy Grass and Lovage Flowers in a separate basin; add the final six ounces of Syrup of Hellebore into the mixture and stir the ingredients until the solidity of the grass and flowers have melted into the compound. Then add to the cauldron stirring counterclockwise.
10. Finally, add a dash of Molten Antimony (1/5 cup) and the Powdered Unicorn Horn (1 milligram.) The potion will then spark with a luminescent glow if done correctly.

Jessica Sassareth

Slytherin, Third Year

User Image Jessica rapidly wrote down the instructions for the potion for her own notes:

Baleful Brew- All sense of fear, worry, and paranoia are gone, the drinker will be encouraged to act upon basic and primal impulse, eradicating any emotion and fear, and the drinker will successfully be able to do what they otherwise could not. Jessica read and reread the instructions, committing them into memory. Next, the redhead gathered all of the materials and prepared her work station -- setting up the bronze caldron with a burner ready to go underneath. Once everything was ready, Jess poured the six ounces of salamander blood into the bronze caldron and lit the burner. Jess watched the clock and waited exactly six minutes by studying the second hand going around the dial. Once six minutes passed, Jessica began to add the dragon livers one at a time mixing them into the mixture.

Once the mixture reached a boil, the pale Slytherin stirred in the prepared asphodel, tentacula, dittany, and flobberworm mucus concoction provided by Professor Amorocho and carefully stirred counterclockwise, as instructed. The rich red concoction gradually smoothed out into a pure liquid form. Paying attention to the form of the liquid, Jess stirred clockwise as per instruction and intentionally added exactly eighteen counterclockwise stirring strokes on this phase.

Next, Jess added the four doxy eggs, observing the forming potion instantly changing into a deep rich purple. Once she fully observed the pinkish fumes issuing forth from the purple brew, Jess added one ounce of crushed wormwood and then six ounces of carefully measured syrup of Hellebore.

Taking careful note of the time, minute and second hand, Jess waited to add the five eel eyes. Jess wrote down the the exact time to add the eel eyes, then combined the eleven grams of scurvy grass and the 2 grams of lovage flowers. Then, Jess added the final six ounces of Syrup of Hellebore into the basin and stirred untio the grass and flowers fully melted.

Once the basin mix was ready, Jess looked at the clock comparing it to the exact time she wrote down. Breathing a little nervously, the porcelean redhead took the five eel eyes and stirred them in at the ten minute mark she already had determined. After the eel eyes were properly stirred in, Jess added the grass/flower/Hellebore mix into the brew, stirring it in counterclockwise. Once that was completed, the Slytherin girl pouring in the one-fifth cup of molten antimony and the single miligram of unicorn horn. The purple potion now glowed with a purplish and pink hue.

Jess turned off the burner, and then took a clean vial. Then, she very carefully poured the brew into the vial and stoppered it. With a smile, Jessica labeled the potion:

Baleful Brew
Jessica Sassreth
House Slytherin

Still smiling, Jessica took her brew up to Professor Amorocho's desk and set it down. Then, Jess returned to her station and began to clean up her work station.

Entering the class with a smile, she felt a shinning to her at the project of potion brewing. Taking her seat instantly and not even having the spared focus to search for Tay or observe Jessica, she thrust into the assignment as soon as she was given the freedom. Gathering each needed ingredient in the exact amount listed, she returned to her station and began eagerly reading and re-reading the instructions. Ever writing them down fully for both the extra boost of easier access and memory, as well as future reference. Beginning to work, her precision, focus and eye to detail worked just as well with her. Every step being preformed as close to a personal perfection as could physically be managed. And as the fourth step came, she felt no sense of anxiety as she weighed the pros and cons of each stirring method. Feeling not only completely defined with her previously completed steps, but also ready with no trace of anxiety, she decided on the action of counter-clockwise stirring. Stirring evenly and continuously at a constant speed, her mind remained in perfect focus as she counted out each cycle in her head. Eyes trained exactly on one spot on the brim of her cauldron to be held as a sort of check point for her numbering. At exactly eighteen, she lifted her tool out of the cauldron brew, feeling the light pull of the liquid in its momentum as it just slightly carried the ladle past her mark. Feeling a grip of foreboding and suddenly frozen shock, she gave it no mind and instead reminded herself of the time sensitivity of the assignment. Working once more with the ingredients and keeping eyes on the liquid. At the point of colour change, she found the expected vibrant color was instead slightly dull. Eyebrows knitting in true anxiety now, she pushed herself to continue.
Final steps looming, her hand visibly shook as she added the lash dash of the two ingredients, watching with fearful gaze and every possibility showing before her mind. Thumb held and heart crossed, she felt even no urge to blink until she saw dark.

The spark of the final stage of the potion preparation had been present, and it had light a another spark of hope in her, but there was no luminescence in her potion surface. No glow given off, instead a darkness of void. A pulling front of ghostly proportions that seemed to oppose every expectation and destroy every previous feeling of knowledge she held before. Sitting down, she simply stared at the cauldron which held every definition of personal failure. Taking her quill in hand, she scribbled out the second option affixed to the fourth step she had written. Leaving only the possibility of clockwise stirring rather than the foolish road which she had taken. Mind so parched of her previous excitement, her curiosity could not even resurface to wonder what her altered potion could be capable of.

William Dante Nott the Third

To say the young heir of Nott was intrigued by the potion sprawled upon the chalkboard and then deftly defined throughout the several pages within the textbook at hand, he felt as much pride and ambition alongside the pair of Ravenclaw’s than he had ever truly felt before. The prospects were teeming with possibilities, and he felt no qualm diving straight into the potion. But each step was meticulously done, each ingredient within its own labeled vicinity upon his desk, and every always in place. His fingers danced with a rhythm as he purposefully plopped each dragon liver within salamander blood, and then stirring with smooth, even strides.

Then the choice came as he drawled upon the fourth step, and with a tedious hand, he stirred deft and smooth, and then counterclockwise eighteen fluid strokes, one more rotation clockwise, and another series of counterclockwise rotations. It was a risk he found himself willing to take.

Careful, steady notions led to the final steps of his potion where he gingerly added molten antimony and powdered unicorn horn into his brew with eager eyes as it began to shift with a luminescent urge.

The ticking hand of the clock hanging upon a crooked nail on the wall continuously whirled around, and for a while, it was all Angel could do but stare at the faceless clock. His mind was clearly lost in a world all its own, but surely, the strict tension in his brow meant it was important. Those dark chocolate eyes always glanced to watch the students, but with a steely resolve he finally rose and began to pace around the class. Studying the motions of his students and the art of potioneering let him rest for the moment.

When the students began to reach the final stages of the potion, he took a seat at his desk and awaited the results. One by one, they came, and he inspected each one with a meticulous eye, rolling the vial around in his fingers to examine the viscosity of each. An approving smile daunted his lips as he examing Jessica’s, and as his attention redirected to Phinelia’s potion, he couldn’t help but offer a curious eye as to what had gone wrong, but there was no smile when he eyed Tay’s vial, it glowed pristinely, but he was less than pleased to give the potion to someone like him. Angel just knew there was something off about the boy, but he couldn’t go back on his word.

Offering an apologetic smile to both Jessica and Phinelia, whom, in his mind, should have been the ones to execute the perfect potion. His doubts had even led him to be determine to take a stopper within each of the three vials to run a quick test.

”Well, William, it appears your potion was the best of the bunch, and as promised, a small vial just for you and twenty points to Slytherin.

“Before I dismiss you, does anybody have any questions?”

Time lingered past as she sat with her finished failure of a brew, seeping with unpleasant fumes that seemed to amplify her feeling of disgrace. As time ticked quickly and slowly in wavering lapses as her classmates slowed with their perfectly cautious preparation, Phi simply sat without handing her produce to the professor. That knot in her gut of pure anger to herself as well as her foolish mistake (which she had now replayed before her own eyes countless times) didn't seem in any hopes to ease on its own as she focused on. As moments passed and their class time dwindled, her mind could not help but fall into the unconscious flow of thoughts that drifted away from the targeted blunder. Passing curiosities that became more characteristic and natural for the redhead; simply floating her further into a depth of her brain and musings: what had possessed her to go the route she did in that instruction? How had she not foreseen the drag of the current of her brew that ha led to the result's ruin? These rampant branches of musing so deep inside the Ravenclaw hung out; slow in their pace at first until they became lightening speed, rushing so fast and growing in so many paths that the final thought was so abrupt, everything almost derailed. A thought that should have been her initial, rather than concentrating and allowing the existence of this childish bitterness: what curious effects had she created in her blunder?
At that running snap, she suddenly resurfaced to reality just as Tay stepped forward to the professor with his perfect sample of the potion. Finding her knot and melancholic evaporated in her absence from focus on it, she nearly smiled. Reaching for the sample vial provided, she took a small amount of her product and labelled it, quickly ascending to the desk of the professor with no characteristic interest towards Tay's product nor any nature contempt. Handing the vial to her teacher - and seeing his slight disappointment as well as confusion to her failure - she returned to her seat. At the presence of possible questions she raised her hand instantly, gaze as well as words asking the professor kindly, "Would it be all right, Professor, if I spoke to you after class?"

Dark, almond shaped eyes glanced at each of the students in turn from underneath the heavy set brow aligned upon his dark boiled skin. A tension resided within muscles strained and weary, but as he saw no brimming thought of wonder in the eyes of his students, he found himself nodding his head, a hand risen to surge warmth through his fingertips and massaging into his shoulders. ”Yes, Miss von Ichval, that would be fine.

“And, if nobody has any questions, you are dismissed. Next class will be a review, so practice your spells.”

Hovering over the foliage that thrived across the back circular wall of the classroom, Professor Angel had held his long wand of thirteen inch oak wood generously over each plant—no two were the same. It was a difficult feat, if herbologists pondered, to harbor such separate individual species that, in any other world, would never flourish. But Juan Angel Amorocho would always smile, the secrets of alchemy he would always tell them. Students would begin to rush within, finding seats and falling into a chatter with ease, and he would wait until each and every plant had had the exact amount of moisture needed before swirling around on his heel and garbed in a muggle suit and tie.

”Ah, hola y bienvenidos,” Angel began in Spanish for a fault, and continued in English. ”Welcome to alchemy class, I’m Professor Amorocho, I understand it may be a bit difficult to pronounce, as it is, you may call me Professor Angel if you like.

“Now, today we are going to begin the year by briefly learning about the Philosopher’s Stone and its properties. The Philosopher’s Stone can be used to create the Elixir of Life, to transform base metals into pure gold, and, power, but, only one stone created has ever been recorded into existence. created by the hands of Nicholas Flamel, and, Albus Dumbledore....”
He paused, allowing the moment for students to settle in and retrieve parchment and quill; today, there would be no spell casting.

”The Philosopher’s Stone was a very crucial ingredient in the hopes to create an Elixer of Life, which, can grant an extended lifespan for as long as the user drinks it, and, it can also be used to restore a witch or wizards soul that may have been broken apart with the means of a horcrux.

“When the stone was set to be hidden in Hogwarts, it had been hidden within an enchanted item, the Mirror of Erised. Albus Dumbledore was a famed alchemist who truly believed in the pursuit of enlightenment and the magical importance of the pure of heart. The mirror, truly a brilliant stroke of genius, would always reflect what was desired most, because of that, it could drive men to madness, simply because, they wanted to see it come fruition—and the only place where it would, would be standing in it’s reflection.

“The Philosopher’s Stone was hidden inside of this mirror, and even though the possessed Quirinus Quirrell desired the stone more than anything else, he would never have been able to acclaim it. Mister Harry Potter desired the stone, utmost, for one and one only reason: to protect the lives of those he most cared about. Although at the time, he had been led to believe it was the previous Potions Master Professor Snape, his heart had always known that he was destined to keep it safe.

“The heart is a very powerful matter, delving as deep into mind magic, as well as wand lore, and heavily researched in the Department of Mysteries in the Ministry of Magic, for good reason… And no doubt, it took vigorous studying, and research for Dumbledore to have been able to safely hide the stone in such a precarious manner.

“Ah, I do believe that concludes the lesson for today, does anybody have any questions about what we’re you’re going to be learning in alchemy this year? I realize today’s first lesson wasn’t exactly an introductory course but next class you will begin your spell work, and, I will go over the fundamentals of alchemy in depth. ”
He concluded, and guided his gaze across his students to see if anyone had a question.

[[[Do not post until Thursday, 17, when the class begins. I will be out of town until Sunday, so I won’t be able to answer until then.]]]
