I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Cin Future Name: Boian (Romanian for Warrior) Personality Blurb: Cin is large cub, and will be a big lion, with strength, speed, and endurance to go with it. He will take to hunting and fighting skill sets like a bird to flight, and anything physical will come very easy to him. He'll be happiest when learning from his dad, and do his best not to get his tail to tattered about them fawning over his sister to much. Even tempered for the most part, it still would do well not to hurt anyone he loved, for then fury is to mild a word for his temper. Nothing would stand in his way of taking out the offending party, even pushing himself past physical limits if need be. He is not stupid however, but in fact very shrewd, and is often underestimated because of his large size, which suites him fine. Loyal to those that are loyal to him, Cin will be a lion to be reckoned with. (losely based on the Furyan race from the Riddick Universe)
Entry: Cin frowned as he studied the feline from under the fall of his bangs, trying to work out what it was. It wasn't a lion, that much was clear...it was too small, but it was to big to be a cheetah...that much was clear too. So....it had to be something else, but what? He couldn't figure it out from here...best to get a closer look. Like dad said, only way to be sure was to get a closer look..
Glancing back over his shoulder he made sure mom and the others were a few paces ahead, he could see Tamara walking with someone's tail clutched between her teeth. That was good, their only sister was bringing up the rear of the column. Mom was used to that, so if he were quick about it he could get a little closer, loop around and slip back into line a little further up and none of them would even be aware he had been gone. Good enough...that was what dad would say. Cin nodded his head in agreement with himself. Yup, Good enough.
Narrowing his golden eyes, he spied the best route through the mud and set to it, coming around the side of the strange feline. He may just be a cub, but he wasn't born yesterday! A few weeks ago actually, so he knew not to approach the stranger head on, and he also figured if he got into trouble, he knew the swamp somewhat...and if he yelled...well dad had good hearing, right? Satisfied he wouldn't get eaten, Cin crawled up as close as he dared.
Nope not a lion, and nope not a cheetah either...to skinny to be a leopard.....what was it? He wrinkled his cubby nose, deciding he had enough and stood up. He was gonna go ask it what it was. The feline saw him just as he jumped up onto the branch she was using to keep out of the muddy waters and seemed puzzled by his appearance out of nowhere, that puzzlement turned to outright surprise when he marched right up to her and blurted out, “ What ARE you?”
She blinked, then smiled at him, “ I'm a Leotah. My mother was cheetah, and my father a leopard. Why do you ask little one?” Her voice was kind, and sweet, and it made him frown more, “ Cause..you're cursed, but you seem to pretty to be cursed. Its sad.” She was pretty, in a grownup kind of way.
“Cursed?” She seemed more amused then devastated by the news, a sure sign she was cursed. It made him very sad for her. So much so that he reached out and awkwardly patted her paw in reassurance, “ Its ok, I don't think being cursed hurts...but I'll ask mama just in case. Then I'll come back and tell you.”
The stranger looked at his very solemn eyes and managed to keep her giggle behind her muzzle. She bowed her head graciously to him, “ Thank you. It would be nice to know if being cursed hurts.”
He nodded and jumped back down off the branch, “ Maybe mama knows how to make you un-cursed. Maybe you can be either a leopard or a cheetah. Not both. Then you wouldn't be cursed at all.”
She raised an eyebrow, then shook her head, “ Why don't you start with finding out if being Cursed hurts first little man, before you try unmaking what the Gods made me...hummm?”
He tilted his head, thinking about it for a moment, dad said you always had to stop and think sometimes, “ Ok..we'll start there..then we can see about making you one or the other.” Satisfied, he waved at her over his shoulder as he slipped back into the swamp, moving to loop around and catch up with his family before they broke the clearing to met up with dad for the day.

I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Plats (Swedish for 'spot', for his tail) Future Name: Maali kaiken (Finnish for 'paint on everything') Personality Blurb: Plats is an artist at heart, finding beauty in anything and everything - Even hybrids! His fascination in particular tends to come from markings on two of his brothers and his mother, as well as some of his other relatives. For those who don't seem to have markings, or don't have enough in his own opinion... He'll take various crushed berries and the like and paint some on them. Entry: When the cub heard his new name... His ears dropped. Oh, that would NOT do. There was more to him than SPOTS... He looked for a moment at his tail, curious about why it grew like that, to look spotted. Then his eyes looked past it... And there was a berry bush. The brown cub turned and hurried over to it, plucking plump yellow and orange berries off branches. Gold eyes danced and looked around, before finding something to mash them on until he had created a golden paste. With his new-found paint, he was soon covering his shoulders, tail, and rump with stripes, and ran streaks through his white tuft of mane. The cub was very proud and happy..... Until his mother lifted him up to take him to bathe. Plats let out a displeased squeal, but did not protest as he was carried away. From his vantage point, he spotted a lion... That looked a lot like himself, one brother, and one sister. Other than a couple things... And his pelt was so... So... So OPEN. Plats gave up on dangling like a good cub and tried to stretch his messy paws toward his father, intent on covering every inch of fur with a marking of this sort or that sort.

BLUE-EYED WONDER Cub Name: Linas: Lithuanian name meaning "flax." Future Name: Áskell'vidar - Icelandic form of Old Norse Ásketill, meaning "divine kettle" and Víðarr meaning "forest warrior." Personality Blurb: Quiet and soft spoken the youngster tends to stay in the background, allowing his other brothers and their single sister to claim the majority of the pride's, and their parent's, attention. For Linas, he prefers to be overlooked and left to a quieter time, often sitting and simply watching everyone else around him for hours at a time. His eyesight is incredibly sensitive, which doesn't inspire him to activity during the sunniest days as he prefers to rest in the den or under the thick foliage offered by the swamp until dusk. He is most active at night, preferring the cool shadows to the bright and painful sunlight. he is the one most likely to be found with their sister as a cub, letting her chew on whichever limb she desires or use him as a 'blankie' when she needs to. He doesn't encourage her, but he also doesn't condemn her and is perfectly comfortable 'babysitting' her. Entry: (Prompt 2) Chewing slowly on a small strip of fur, the youngster watched his father and sister together. It was not a new development, his father's doting on their only sister, and Linas had long since quit minding it. After all, he preferred to hang back and listen quietly while his siblings battled each other over the choice parts of the kill. He himself was satisfied just to fill his belly enough to stop the grumbling sounds, any more and he usually felt too uncomfortable for a few hours afterwards.
Finishing his small meal the youth stood and padded a few strides away from the rest of his boisterous siblings and settled down. A moment later he felt the warmth of his sister press against his side and he turned to smile gently at her before shifting enough so that he could reach her ears. Settling again he started to groom her ear sleepily while she chewed on his tail. It was while curled up like a small furry pretzel that the pair drifted to sleep, her ear in her brother's maw and his tail caught in her's.

I'VE GOT A NAME FOR YOU! Cub Name: Jua – “sunshine” Future Name: Zuri’Moyo – “Good character/beautiful heart” Personality: Taking after his father and uncle Jua is going to be a rather huge lion. Because of this many might see him as a bit intimidating, but the reality is that he is a sweet heart; a kind hearted klutz who means well most of the time and has a warm smile for everyone. Certainly he may trip often and stumble over his lanky legs, but as he grows he’ll get more balanced on his paws. He might find it hard to not intimidate others, however, because of his size and build but once they get to know him they realize that he really is just a softie on the inside. Though admittedly he often forgets his own strength and may accidentally end up hurting something or someone. Not seriously of course, but just enough to make him follow them around for the next few days to make sure they’re okay. (Probably to also make sure they aren’t angry at him, he can’t stand someone being angry!) And he’s not a slow cub, just a bit shy especially around females save for his mother and sister. But even around them he sometimes may get flustered.
I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Epesi – “Quick” Future Name: Bwawa’mzuka - Swamp Spirit Personality Blurb: Even a s a cub, Epesi has a rather weird way about him. Often he can be caught staring at something as if it were a whole new thing to him. He daydreams often and finds himself easily distracted from normal conversations and play. Instead it’s like he has his own world in his mind. Epesi is sharp, however, if not in a sleepy manner and often offers pretty good advice. Most likely he will just be sitting there without anyone noticing him and when they seem distressed his soft voice will be right behind them with a gentle comment.
Though that habit of going unnoticed by others until he speaks and having the uncanny ability of knowing –really he’s just rather observant and has good timing- when someone is looking for him does startled others. Especially when he’s the type to just quietly pop up at random; some may even be startled into thinking he’s a spirit. And his smile - it's one which many are touched by. It's angelic really how it lights up his face and the hearts of others around him.
Entry: Prompt 3
As Epesi and his siblings were introduced to the pride he almost missed his name. Rather the cub was entranced by a small moth while had landed near his paw. Unlike most cubs who may have playfully pounced after the insect he only quietly studied it. But then it fluttered away just as his mother looked to him and said the name, “Epesi.” The cub tilted his head at her. Epesi? That was his name? Hmm. He didn’t feel any different? Did he look different now that he had a name to his body? He didn’t even really know what it meant. But that was okay, any name his mother would give him was fine by him. It just gave him a name to respond to, nothing more. He was still himself after all.
And it was true he was quick. When his interest was stirred or something made him really move the lion was a blur. It was best since he needed speed to make up for his lack of size. Not smaller than most normal cubs, but definitely smaller built than his father and uncle.
His father. The knowledge that he was finally seeing him made Epesi intrigued. Would he look anything like him? What was his father like? Was he nice or mean? What did he even like? Epesi didn’t voice any of his thoughts, but rather watched as his siblings looked over everyone. Everyone. The new thought startled him. That was right! This group of lions belonged to his home. He would be living here with them. There were more than he had thought. It was like another world was merging into the small one into which he had been born.
Then he had approached his father. Instead of greeting him with any noise the cub had just smiled; a warm smile which reached his light gaze. So this was his father. Noises distracted him from his study of the male and the cub looked around at the lions moving around. And this was his pride.
How interesting.
BLUE-EYED WONDER Cub Name: Nili – “Blue” Future Name: Makali’Nafsi – Strong Soul Personality Blurb: Nili is a sharp minded cub with a bold spirit (what he lacks in size he definitely makes up in spirit). Because of his slender size the cub has learned early to rely more on his wits than his brawns. He is quick to make a plan in tight situations and tends to take on the leadership role as needed. On the outside he seems to be a gentle cub, a very relaxed, cool, and temperamental guy while the truth is he always is trying to hold back some sharp comment and a rather short temper. But he does know how to play the nice role and is often respectful of his elders. Still despite his moody ways, his family is dear to him and he cherishes his siblings no matter how different he may feel from them. Entry: Prompt 2
Nili’s ears perked up at the sound of someone approaching. Who? Sleepily the cub blinked and then sighed as he realized who it was. Father The lion who was their father yet only visited them rather than living with them and their mother. He did respect him for still watching over them, but the cub just didn’t understand what was so bad that his father wouldn’t live with them. Wouldn’t that be easier on everyone? It would save them from having to travel back and forth to just see each other for just these small spans of time.
But then again it wouldn’t be like he would be getting any special attention.
The thought made Nili look towards his sister. Yep. His father had immediately headed over her way again. What was it about his sister that made her so special? He frowned. If she had been born a boy too then would their father just treat them all the same? Not that he minded as much. He liked his sister and wasn’t one for much attention any way. He preferred being able to sit back and watch. Though admittedly he did sometimes wish someone would look his way more. Shaking his head the cub sighed. It was better to not waste energy on things like that.
Still. Why was their family like this? So separated, yet so close. It was aggravating to him to see others with fathers who were there all the time. But the more he reflected on it the more he found that simple jealously fading. Who needed normalcy? Who even said that having a father living with them was normal? This way was his life and this was his normal. The thought made him grin. That’s not bad, right? Plus no telling how much less his siblings and he could get away with things if their father was at home watching over them as well. He grinned. Probably none of them would even get to tease their sister or even nudge her. So maybe having separated parents was a better thing.
Yep, life was good for this cub.
And so was this gazelle. Mmmm.

I'VE GOT A NAME FOR YOU! Cub Name: Ett (one) Future Name: Zecchino (a kind of gold coin) Personality: Ett is fairly average in size and rarely shows much of his feelings. He never seems to get really angry, sad or even happy. From an outsiders point of view he might seem very cold and devoid of emotions, but he just doesn't express what he feels as loudly as others do. Why shout about it when a small smile or slightly tilted ears can have the same meaning? His family will learn to read him of course, but he will probably be misunderstood by those that don't know him. He might even get in fights with others over these misunderstandings. And I can see lots of potential for love trouble in his future...

I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Aziz Kanu Future Name: Jabari Kanu Personality Blurb: Aziz Kanu takes mostly after his father, being serious and reserved but with some of his mother's penchance for sharp tongue and claws. He is a quiet one of his siblings and likes to sit back and observe things but half of the time, he will join in and play with them so he could hone his stalking and 'hunting' abilities. Entry:
Prompt 1
Aziz Kanu always look forward to that time of day when his mother take him and his siblings out for a walk to meet their father even though if his father pays more attention to their sister than him or his brothers. When other siblings raced up ahead of him, he hung behind as he takes in every detail and every sensations while registering everything to his memory bank. Aziz's orange eyes flickers around and lands on a creature that he never seen before, he moves away from his family and drops to his black belly, crawling toward to the VERY edge of the border to get a better look.
His ears pins back against his head while he stares at the lion-colored creature lazing on a large boulder, he is completely confused to what it is because it doesn't look like a lion.. well not completely. He pokes his muzzle through tall grasses as he watches the creature and all of the sudden, his eyes collides with the creature's eyes. A short streak of fear spreads through his chest as he instinctively backed away from the spot he was 'hiding' in with a little kittenish snarl. The creature stood up and stretches its body out fully then sat down on its hunches.
Aziz Kanu mimicks the creature's movements without knowing it as he sits down on his hunches, completely confused because the creature reminds him of a lion but at same time, he could see some of the leopard in that creature. How is it possible? I thought lions don't play with leopards or cheetahs He thinks as he decides to remove himself from the creature's line of sight to go and hang out with his father. He finally came to the conculsions, he is deeply disgusted with those kind of creatures and will not associate with them if he does encounter one again in his near future.

BLUE-EYED WONDER Cub Name: Samanya Future Name: Dumisa Obi Personality Blurb: Gorman is a cub that embraces the life with everything he have. He have a bubbly personality which means he loves to socalize and laugh. It is almost rare for him to lose his temper but when he does, he is a perfect mirror of his mother's temper, armed with sharp tongue and sharp claws. Entry:
Entry 2
Samanya was at the border with his mother and brothers, frockling around and laughing while they play a small game of hide-or-seek, waiting for their father to come for their daily visit. He's at the age where he is very curious about everything so he was armed with questions for his father.. that's if he pays attention to him this time.
"Daddy is here!!" One of siblings cried out as they all swarmed around the male carrying a gazelle. "Dad!! Dad!! I want to-...." Samanya blinks back the unshed tears that suddenly sprang to his eyes when their father turned his attention mostly to their sister. He swallows back the lump as he renews his attempts to get his father to notice him. "I want to ask you about a creature I saw other day!" He pounces on his father's tail but only acknowledgement he got from his father was a glance and flick of his tail. Pinning ears back against his skull, Samanya sighs as he scoots over to an available spot so he could eat gazelle. He can't help but to feel little resentful toward his sister for monopolizing their father's attention.
His blue eyes lowers as he wishes his father would join in the pride so they don't have to constantly travel to the borders to have some family time with each other. Samanya rips a chunk of meat little more violently than necessary as he chews on it while looking around at his family, feeling little sad that they will never be truly together and he will probably never get to REALLY spend time with his father without his sister around....

BLUE-EYED WONDER Cub Name: Vawne (little one) Future Name: Cass'ius (meaning vain) Personality Blurb: Very vain, like everyone should love him and acknowledge his presence as well as his beauty. Entry: Prompt1 "I don't see what the big deal is about." Vawne looked over at the hybrid for a brief moment. " I mean I am much more handsome then that mix." He shook his head before turning back to groom himself, a happy lion was a well-kept lion. "The only good thing about this land is the water." He ambled away from his siblings and mother for a moment to look at himself in the water not seeing the eyes rolls of his siblings as well as head shakings behind his back. "and why do we have to see father anyways? He left us remember... why make the effort." He paused here sadly before straightening his posture as he noticed his hair was out of place; therefore, losing his train of thought and focusing on the disaster that was his hair. "Oh no!" The horror in his voice and face clear to how much this distressed him and his voice getting shrill. " Can we get going? All this stopping is messing with my appearance! I can't let daddy see me like this!!"

I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Ári: Old Norse name meaning "eagle." Future Name: Vídarrik'fenrir : Old Norse myth name of a son of Óðinn, meaning "forest warrior." Fenrir: Old Norse meaning "swamp." Personality Blurb: A quiet cub he prefers actions over words, devout in his beliefs he follows the pride's philosophy, believing in the spirits and trusting them to guide him throughout his life. He may not be a loud cub but he is far from weak, taking after his father's rogue blood more than his mother's smaller size, he will grow to be a fairly large male. He dislikes fighting but is very good at it and wont hesitate to defend his family and friends and other pride members who had earned his protection, in his eyes. He can be a little harsh in his judgments but at heart he is a good guy. Entry: It was a normal day, Ári was following behind his siblings, keeping an eye on their sister when he spotted something strange, out past the scrub. Squinting his pale eyes he tried to work out what it was. A cat for sure, but not any kind of cat that he had ever seen before and he had met a leopard and heard tale of a cheetah that had come through the pride's swamp briefly. This looked like neither, with the mane of a lion but the limbs looked far too gawky and thin. Frowning he stopped, gazing out at the apparition as he tried to see it more clearly. How such a thing could exist he did not know, for it looked like a painful mix of different cats. Shaking his head against the strain of his thoughts he frowned. It had to be a warning, for nothing that strange could be flesh and blood. Filled with foreboding he turned and sought out his family, realizing they had moved further on down the trail. The fur along his back stood on end as he returned his gaze to the strange feline only to realize that it had vanished. Shivering as if a cold hand had touched his tail, he spun round and raced after his mother and siblings. He would have to ask her later, once they were alone, what it had been, but for the rest of the day he could not get the sight out of his mind, or the feeling of something bad coming fro his blood.

I WANT SOME SPOTTY TAIL! Cub Name: Eez (a play on the word ice in Swedish) Future Name: Chyjice Personality Blurb: Eez thinks he knows exactly how the world works, and can be a bit of a pain in the behind when he goes into “teacher” mode. He likes to share his words of wisdom, and it doesn’t matter if his victims are interested in hearing them or not. From the moment his mother started to teach them about the beliefs and customs of the pride he embraced it fully, and he’s just as proud over their home as she is. However, his habit of trying to teach his siblings and peers this all over again is not always appreciated. His view of the world is rather rigid so I predict lots of culture clashes when he goes on his name quest.
Entry: It took some time for him to realise what he was seeing. In fact, it was one of his brothers that put the pieces together first and whispered "That must be a hybreed."
Eez froze, watching the presumed freak of nature with disbelief. No. No, it couldn't be. He had heard of hybrids from other cubs, and it was almost always used as a juicy ingredient in a scary story. They were always killed at birth because they were just plain WRONG and couldn't be allowed to live. Right? Who knew what happened if you let one live and run rampant out there. No. His brother must be wrong, and his eyes must deceive him somehow. Now when he had calmed down a little it looked more like a skinny lion with a mane that hadn't grown very big. Perhaps he was just sick. Yeah. His dad did okay out there, but he was large and could fend for himself. That skinny lion must be weaker, and not as skilled in surviving on his own. Served him right for not living in a swamp. Everyone knew the swamplands was the best place to live.
"Psh," he said, "It's not a hybrid. It's just a skinny lion with scabies or something. Don't go near it."
Because scabies was not a nice disease, and... you know... it just might turn out to be a blood thirsty freak of a hybrid after all.
