Your aunts, Zeru and Mzuza, have returned from their name quests(Please don't create names for this!), and Zeru speaks of lions calling themselves demons as well as lions who hunt these demons. What do you think of it? Do you want to meet them? You'd have to be careful about it if you do..

They called themselves demons…

Kivuli had never heard the word before, and it had both puzzled and fascinated him the first time he overheard his aunts discussing the matter. He spent a few restless nights staring at the shadows moving across the floor of his family’s den, his mind reeling. After far too many groggy mornings, Kivuli had sought out his aunt Zeru to further explain the encounter with these lions and to explain just what demons were. After the initial scolding for eavesdropping and a firm demand not to go looking for the creatures, Zeru had given him his answer.

In Kivuli’s mind- it sounded more or less like an entire pride of lions pretending to be the bad guys of a story, and another group pretending to be the heros. He had spent countless days pretending to be one thing or another- a bird, a gazelle, and in one more exciting game- the king of a great pride –but that didn’t make him any of that. Perhaps the two prides were a bunch of adults who never had to grow up, never had to learn to actually face reality. Half of him thought it would be a lot of fun to engage his entire pride, and another outside pride, in an elaborate game of good guys fighting bad guys- but then again life wasn’t all fun and games. Even he knew when to call it quits, shove his siblings off his ears, and take time to learn more useful things like hunting and stalking.

The cub trudged along on his own, his ears laid flat against his skull as his large, clumsy paws treaded over the damp ground of his pride’s territory. His mind hadn’t stopped reeling since the day of his aunt’s return. Images of an entire pride playing tag and darting behind trees seemed far too silly. What if these lions took it very seriously? What if they actually thought they were some… evil creatures? What if the other pride thought so as well? Adults were silly, and frankly they confused him. How could anyone take something like that seriously?

Kivuli ducked down as a bird swooped overhead to snag a bug in mid-air. He knew those birds! He had heard them make calls that were not their own, cackle, or even make hollow clicking sounds. None of them were ‘their’ sound- they were mimics. Perhaps that’s what these demons were? Mimics. It might have been a survival tactic on their part. After all- who would want to attack a demon? His aunt had described them as merciless killers, cutthroat and dangerous. If that was the reputation they held, he could understand why they would play to it. If a bird could do it- why couldn’t a lion?

He made a face and trudged on, batting a low-hanging branch out of his way. The mimic idea was all well and good – but what about their rivals? They obviously thought it was a good idea to pick a fight with lions claiming to be monsters. What about them? Perhaps there was bad blood between them. Perhaps one pride had stepped in another’s territory, broke a rule, or took one of their cubs.

It was possible- but then they seemed to be playing along by simply calling themselves demon hunters. Why not just call themselves offended? Or angry? No one that attacked a mimic bird called themselves mimic bird hunters- they called themselves hungry, desperate, or bored.

There was one other option- they were both insane.

It explained things a whole lot better in his mind. If he charged up to his siblings right then and there and declared himself to be an antelope they’d either think he was playing or he’d licked himself a toad. The later would be far more convincing if he decided to carry on the act past a good, hearty game of chaise.

One thing was for certain- both prides were to be avoided, and both were to be kept away from his other siblings. Midna had a strange fascination with the dark and the strange- she especially would be at risk. If she decided to chaise after waterfalls during her own naming ceremony, she could end up in a lot of trouble.

Or insane.

Shuddering, he picked up his pace, threw his tail upwards, and threw out his chest. Well if lions were going around declaring themselves to be something they weren’t- he was a great hero. Ready to protect his family and pride from the threat of stupids. The threat of crazies, or the threat of lions far too old to be playing games rather than bringing dinner back to their cubs.

Goodness Mle's got a lot of kids! Do males need permission to breed outside the pride? No since the cubs weren't born inside the pride.
What happens when a male witnesses the birth of a litter?
The male will be forced to flee or be killed. The litter are then concidered 'a taint' in which includes either being exiled or killed like the male. The mother is not directly involved however is the carrier of the taint and will be exiled or killed as well.
Which of the cubs of the current ruler becomes the next king/queen?
Any deemed Scion/Litter from the ruler. The ruler will grant successor only if stepping down or near death however.
Multiple choices of answer - Show me at least ONE LION that Mrengo can't have a fling with or mate with out in the big wide world! OHAITHUR! Since they do own ancestral links through Toshiro. And also you asked no incest and well adoption is still incest-like to me too so ;P. (Incest is ick :<)
