When her mother had first mentioned this little trip, Chazama had been quite adamant that neither wished to join nor did she care for meeting other cubs and juves. Of course, with her mother being the tenacious Dina, that argument didn't get her very far. So instead of being warm and cozy in their little makeshift den that would hardly fit anyone to begin with, the young girl was out here with all of this... this... horribleness. She had kept up with the group thus far, saying nothing and almost coming off as grumpy as she padded along at the back of the group of youngsters. Who needed excitement anyway? A nap would do her just fine-
She would have gone on to mentally complain about how much her paws hurt and how much she wished her mother were around- well sort of, Dina would be griping at her for something or other more than likely. A screech and the following chaos did not escape her, in fact Chazama was caught so off-guard that she had somehow managed to find herself scrambling in the opposite direction, realizing she was alone, bolting back to Buna, and eventually face planting to avoid other cubs. She didn't manage to see what was going on, but something scary had happened and that was enough for her!
Ooooh, as if it wasn't bad enough, the sky opened up and completely drenched her coat! And then it would make mud! Because to Chazama mud was one of the more terrible things to worry about. It would make her paws sticky and walking even worse. Never the less, she heard the orders of the two lionesses and grumpily made her way towards the large pale one- Ulaka? She wasn't certain if that was her name, but she'd follow her if it would lead to somewhere safe and warm.

The acacia was good news, and it would be useful for the cubs to learn what kind of trees could be used for shelter. Buna followed Ulaka, making sure not to lose any cubs on the way. It was hard to count them all in the heavy rain, and she wasn't sure she could see every cub. It would be easier to check on everyone when they reached the tree, so she tried not to worry until then.
"Move along," she said to the cubs closest to her, "Acacia trees are good friends in rainy weather."

Unusually obedient, Thuli weaved through a sea of siblings and ran towards the acacia tree, giggling happily as she reached the dry spot. The cub looked up with curious eyes but then a shiver ran down her spine and she shook violently, sending water droplets in every direction. She felt cold but not terribly so.
“Hurry, hurry!” she called out to no one in particular, grinning foolishly as she watched the other cubs and juveniles draw closer. Once again, her eyes seemed glued to the sky and its unruly clouds. “That bird is probably all wet now…” She wasn’t usually vindictive but that thought gave her some amount of satisfaction.

Laini's head was still ringing as the rain started, just a few droplets at first but it was enough to shock him out of his stunned stupor and he dragged himself a little dizzily to his feet. Maybe that tackle hadn't been the best idea in the world... Glancing over at the quiet cub he smiled.. but it had kept her safe so that was alright.
Suddenly the cheerful voices of his sisters called him back to the here and now, and he shook off the last of the dizziness from his tumble. The pair of them were like mirrors, one dark fading to gold, the other the opposite way round. But both were cheerful and plenty loud enough to make the quiet, retiring young male smile back at them.
Thuli's comment made him shift his paws a little awkwardly, embarrassed by her praise. "T'was nothin' really.." He replied but gave her ear an affectionate lick as he did so. Turning to his other sister he bumped Ora's shoulder lightly. He did love his two sisters, even if they were a lot louder than him. "Alright.. Ima comin'." He chuckled quietly to himself and allowed the two girls to herd him towards the large female in charge of them.
The rain didn't really worry him, he had been in watering holes and the like before and though this was colder and weirdly wetter feeling, it was still only water. Giving his non-existent mane a compulsive shake (something that several others seemed unable to resist also also) h trailed his siblings towards the acacia tree.

exclaim Event
The Acacia provided them some shelter, but the rain was relentless. It poured until it made the air chill, the ground thick and muddy. The tighter together they huddled, the warmer they stayed.
The clouds broke, a few hours later, as quickly as they had come. The late afternoon sun proved warm, if one could find a relatively dry spot to stretch out in and bathe in the rays.
A herd of elephants had moved in, pulling at some of the denser trees not far away. And the winds had finally changed. The smells of zebra, wildebeast, and antelope alike were strong in the air. They were scattered here and there, being as picky as they liked about where they drank.
Ulaka was getting restless. It was time for a hunt!
-
The lions are all headed toward the smell of prey.
For your next post, before writing, roll 1-50. If you get 1-20, nothing happens. 20-30, An elephant stomps its foot at your character. 30-35, a baby elephant approaches your character. 35-50, and an elephant charges at the group.
And just for kicks, if Jovi rolls a 3, Chazama falls in a mudhole. If anyone rolls a 2, or 22, something else happens; you'll just have to wait for the event post. ;D
Feel free to play an elephant until the group is past them.

As the rain ceased, Ora felt a breeze brush past her face, ripe with the scents of preybeasts. The little cub lifted her nose to sniff at the air. Everything smelt cleaner, as could only happen after a downpour like the one they had just seen, and she couldn't help but wonder how fresh the land would smell if it rained on end for days. Perhaps then, some color would flush the land again and fatten the herds. Perhaps then, the lands would be a little less harsh.
Before she had time to reflect further on this train of wishful thinking, movements caught her gaze, and she found herself staring at a herd of massive, gray elephants. The little lion gazed in wonder as they lumber closer, watching as they wound their flexible trunks around leaves and trees. The were huge, huge beyond almost beyond comprehension, and the little lion couldn't help but wonder how anything could ever grow so big. Though young, it was already apparent that Ora would always be smaller than other lions, and she was forever spending her time looking up at things rather than down.
And those sounds they made... not quite roars, but not quite anything else either. It made the cub want to laugh. As the elephants' wheezing calls trumpeted across the land, and Ora scrunched up her nose in an attempt to imitate them.
"Rheeeeeee!" She echoed with a giggle, padding aimless around all her siblings and even the juveniles in the group that she didn't quite know to trumpet in their faces, or even just in their direction. Just being around these other cubs seemed safe enough to her, and would have, even if Buna and Ulaka hadn't been around.

This day just wasn't getting any better out here in the wilderness. It was messy, crowded, and wet! As much as Chazama liked to complain about anything she could manage to think of, she had to admit that underneath the tree with all of the bodies around was at least warm and somewhat dry. Not that she'd say anything of course, and the juve probably did still have her grumpy attitude displayed, but the feeling was there... deep down in that self-centered core. She actually counted herself lucky that her mother hadn't decided to come along, why if that were the case, she'd have Dina constantly on her rump about 'paying attention' and 'stop falling behind'. Ugh, her mother never quit!
So... shouldn't it be awesome and cool to be away from her? Chazama hadn't thought about it like that before, and when it occurred to her that this was the case, well, it was said that her smile grew three sizes that day and her pink eyes widened with an unfamiliar spark. As the group began to head out, Chazama was sure to bound towards the front this time. Taking just enough caution to skirt any yucky mud puddles, of course.

The cold hadn't bothered her at first but even Thuli had to admit that being wet on a windy day was no fun. As the piercing wind tried to chill the cub to the bones, Thuli did her best to shake the excess water before nudging herself between two older cubs who made for excellent windbreakers. It was a relief to see the end of the rain and the blue-eyed girl hopped to the nearest rock formation and allowed her coat to take in the warmth of the sun, eyes narrowing contently as she sighed under her breath. Muuuuch better.
"Hey, hey. What's that? What's that??" Thuli asked rather loudly when she spotted a - very large - dark shadow between a small cluster of trees. "It's, it's... Elephant! It's an elephant!" As the actual elephant walked past her without even glancing in her direction, Thuli leaned back but remained in her perch, visibly fascinated by the sight of the approaching herd. It was the first time she'd ever seen so many huge animals in one place so she wasn't going to forget this day anytime soon.

The rain stopped eventually, as it always did, and Buna had a good feeling about the upcoming hunt. All cubs were damp but accounted for and there was plenty of prey around. She met Umakas gaze and nodded. They were both experience hunters and wouldn't have to waste their breath talking hunting tactics. Body language was more important than talking at this point.
"Now would be the time to stay silent," she said in a low voice, addressing the cubs "And to keep out of the way."
The elephants caused quite the commotion among the cubs, but they were large and potentially dangerous animals. Buna had seen angered elephants kill cubs and seriously maim even full grown lions. As long as they weren’t perceived as a threat they would be fine, most likely. She started moving forward, her body held low to the ground.

Sekayi had been assisting his sister Ora in mimicking the sounds that the giant creatures made. "That's not what they sound like! They sound like this," and with that, the little boy gave his best interpretation to the sounds that he was hearing. As many of their bones he had seen scattered throughout his pride's lands, he had never seen a whole herd of them!
The cub had been laughing when Buna shushed them. Quieting, Sekayi huddled against his siblings and watched with rapt attention to what the grown-ups were doing. This would be the first hunt that he's ever watched! The tip of his tail twitched back and forth in excitment at what was about to come.

Sekai had spent the entirety of the cloudburst huddled and shivering as close to the trunk of the acacia tree as she could get, staying away from all the others with their noisy games and wet fur. Her own fur wasn't any drier, but she didn't think of it that way. She knew with a certainty that she wasn't doing a very good job on this hunting expedition, but she couldn't help sniffling and occasionally whimpering.
The young male with them who had knocked her over seemed nice enough. He'd smiled at her even after she was such a stupid little whiny baby, and he'd been trying to be nice even before that, maybe. Would her mother be happy if she made friends with him? Probably not. Her mother didn't seem to like males very much. She always said they weren't trustworthy. But Laini was too young to count, right?
As the rain let up she moved toward the others, but they were mucking about in mud, and her mother would be furious if she came back covered in mud. Maybe if she just walked gingerly and kept her distance, she could talk to them from somewhere more solid and less muddy. She was just positioning herself to do that when Buna warned them to stay silent and out of the way because of the elephants. Sekai smiled to herself. Silent and out of the way were things she was good at.

Their mothers must have raised them well. The entire group managed to slip past, quiet as a leaf in the wind. Only one elephant seemed to get agitated at the larger of the lions, and then the group was past them.
Success!
Soon, the small herd was far behind them. A much larger one awaited them ahead. The scents grew stronger as they neared. The wind was in their face, and the descent to the plains was easy.
"This is as good as a spot as any," Ulaka whispered to Buna. The lioness gave a quick glance behind her.
They would organize the cubs, and then herd them into a spot where they would remain well hidden. For many of them, this would be the first time they were left by themselves and could remember it. But Ulaka and Buna needed the space and the quiet to hunt. Out of the entire trip, this was the moment in which the most things could go wrong.

This is the last event before the end!
The cubs are now on their own, having been deposited in a clump of shrubs and bushes. Who knows what kind of trouble they'll get into?
Roll: 1-50 1-10: Nothing out of the ordinary happens 11-15: The cub scares a flock of birds 16-20: Triggered Event (A post will be made by the mule) 21-25: A large tree limb breaks (the cub can be climbing it, or not, up to you) 26-30: Your cub manages to get a minor injury (like a cut or a sprained paw) 31-35: Triggered Event 36-40: Your cub comes face to face with a wandering crocodile 41-45: Nothing out of the ordinary happens 46-50: Triggered Event

Laini had stuck close to his siblings, chuckling at Ora's attempt at imitating the huge grey beasts. But as nothing else seemed to happen he was content to stick with the other youngsters and gaze up at the massive moving mountains as they slipped past. Once they had been deposited and the adults slipped away, Laini stood and shook the remaining dampness from his fur, glanced about to check his siblings were all relatively close by, then started to examining the area around him, sniffing at rocks and an old dry branch. He knew enough to stay put, but his cubby mind needed something to focus on.

Sit still, don’t run off on your own, don’t make a sound, don’t this, don’t that… jeeeeez! This was supposed to be a fun trip, wasn’t it? The blue-eyed cub shook her body from head to tail when the adults started walking away and started grooming her coat, something that usually help release some of her pent-up energy slowly instead of in the usual bursts of activity that she was so prone to. Occasionally, the cub’s head would pop out of the bushes as she tried to see what the lionesses were doing and if they’d been spotted already.
“And now…” she whispered with a wicked grin to no one in particular pointing her chin at Ulaka. “The light-colored one is going to trip and whelp and ruin the whole thing.” Her bright eyes were fixed on the adult as if willing her prediction to fulfill itself.

Sekai knew she was supposed to be watching the older lionesses hunt and learning from their example, but really she was far more interested in watching the herd itself. She had never seen so many non-lions in one place at one time. There were so many, it seemed to her, it was impossible to believe the pride had been in danger of starving to death in the time before her birth. Yet her mother had told her that had been the case, and Sekai believed her mother wouldn't lie to her.
So despite her best intentions, the purple-eyed cub's attention wandered from the herd to the huntresses and occasionally to the other cubs. This probably was not going to be the most educational trip imaginable for her, but it was still an experience. It wasn't one she was sure she wanted to repeat though. A lot of it had been scary and wet and miserable.
