One moment Mengyao was there, one moment he wasn't. With an odd wooshing sound, Lifen was left by herself, feeling rather open - the large form that was the Conquest Lord not there anymore. Feeling slightly alienated she started to stray closer to Lan.

Hearing the letting of a couple arrows, she allowed herself to safely assume that Invi had accepted the challenge by the large . . . whatever it was. Twisting her hand lightly, and lifting, she allowed her bow to appear, taking the initiative to get a shot it. But, how were they supposed to fight something they could barely see?

Allowing herself one shot, she let an arrow fly, hearing only the sound of the deafened thunk. Well, it wasn't there.

Mmur turned back to look at Eisheth when she addressed him, then back at the creature, then back at Eisheth. He felt the pull of deference he usually did when addressed politely by a fellow Famine clansman. "It is nice to see you, alchemist," he replied with another faint nod. "I am well and I hope you are too." He paused, looking back at the hulking beast as the horseman he now recognized as the heir of Conquest took a shot at it. When had Invictus gotten so tall? Normally, he would have watched his opponent in an effort to strategize, but this enemy's attack pattern seemed no more complicated than 'walk forward.' Plus, all of these Conquest nerds were showing him up.

"I'll... be right back." His whip appeared as he ran after the behemoth, striking it on one of its massive limbs. There. He felt much better now that he'd gotten a shot in.

"HOOOOOO! That is a big one!" Tseng commented as he stared at the large lumbering... thing. He really had no idea what it was. Nor did he have any idea if it was good or bad or not. After a bit of thought, he decided that it was something to be slayed for all the glory.

And so he ran towards the beast before jumping into the air.

"DYNAMIC ENTRY!" he cried out while performing a flying sidekick.

He just sailed right past it.

The creature rumbled another laugh from deep inside it's shapeless body, and slowed to a halt in front of the executioner.

That was when the first attack struck. The powerful arrow struck the behemoth dead on, sinking more than half it's length into the creature's thick, earth-like hide. Clumps of mud fell from the wound hidden deep in moss and ferns. Part of the body slumped oddly, as though something had snapped. As though it had a body inside that shapeless mass that COULD snap.

Had that been enough to send the creature back into the woods?

Slowly the beast turned. Regarding the group of horsemen with invisible eyes, somewhere, hidden deep in the vegetation. And then began to shift towards the large group.

The second attack whistled ineffectually past the long ferns, the third lodged in a thick, rotting log protruding from the creature's body. The whip sent leaves flying, and more mud falling, but it didn't slow the creature. Quite the contrary, it began to pick up speed. From inside the mass the heavy foot beats could still be heard, along with the eerie chuckle that had resumed anew as one horsemen flew right past it.

If it were speeding up, it was only a matter of time before it unleashed whatever destructive attack it kept hidden under it's foliage.

Invictus launched the first attack, and it made Lan tense. She hadn't expected him to shoot first, but it was appropriate. He was the heir, or rather, protector of conquest. Conquest leading the horsemen into battle was just fitting after all.

Gold bow forming in her hands, black nails plucked the bow string, smiling at the twang it made. Watching at the other attempts to get in a good shot, Lan looked to a few of the horsemen who failed.

And by a few she was looking at Mengyao.

"This is no time to be climbing trees Mengyao. We have a beast to subdue."
Not that her arrow was of any help. She was more looking at the other noble and glaring.

"You would think he had a better vantage point from up there." She murmured softly to Lan, her voice just loud enough for the Lady to hear over everyone near her, a soft smile breaking her stoic look before letting another another arrow fly, hoping for some kind of catch.

But it was not meant to be - again- as the arrow resounded lightly on the ground again, making the horsewoman pout. Lightly.

It made sense that he'd had to incite the group assembled into actually attacking, yet it seemed like this creature had a greater amount of luck in not getting hit than he'd expected it to. After all, it was large and heavy.

His arrows might have been light, but as Invictus again drew back his bow and released the strike, it flew with a great force behind it that seemed almost reverent to the Horseman who had fired upon it. He did not pass judgement on his fellow Horsemen of any variety - sometimes it just happened, after all.

"A exciting playdate and nobody called?"

The Protector of Death leapt into the fray out of nowhere, her scythe swinging behind her. Her scythe followed Connie's arrow, a slicing wind from her scythe accompanying the attack.

The whizzing of arrows was much more comfortable to him than chatter. Wordlessly Shikoba waited as the Protecters cut a vulnerable swath on the strange beast, watching the cracks form before spinning his dagger to try and help.

Rather, the creature shifted, and instead the kris dagger bounced off its earthen hide. Shik summoned it back with a hiss, flying to keep in front as he watched its movements. "The more we attack, the more unburdened it comes," he observed grimly, as its speed had picked up some with the loss of "skin".

That eerie chuckle was getting him, and the Heir...no...Protector of Death had attacked it herself. That was a good enough reason to push Soren to the offensive. Without any sort of long distance advantage his main strategy was to...run up and attack as best he could. Perhaps he could be a distraction in the least, and if he could manage to get it to turn its attention to him all the better.

His gauntleted hand raked over the bit of...whatever it was the thing was made of...mud perhaps, to make shallow grooves, but he was primarily ineffective.

Somebody just stood on her feet. What the Queen was that? Eisheth looked down at the apologizing figure. Who's that? Small body, probably very young, pale, with a long dark robe dress and complicated hair, two white wings crossed around the chest. The alchemist had absolutely no idea even about the clan, the stranger should belong to, she couldn't recall seeing anything like this, and could not recognize any familiar patterns in girl's outfit. She gave the girl her hand, and helped her to stand back on the feet.

"Don't worry", she replied absentmindedly trying not to loose the sight of the creature. But then her curiosity too over: "I'm Eisheth, the alchemist..", she paused. "The alchemist of Famine", she looked at the girl waiting for a formal introduction.

Eisheth still wasn't sure it was a good idea to attack the thing: it looked peaceful enough. However, she realized they were in a situation of no choice: they simply had to defend the village, even if the thing wasn't exactly planning to attack.

The Protector of Conquest made the first blow, and everyone else started their attacks, as well. She noticed Mmur chased after the creature, and shouted him: "Be careful!" She had a lot to ask him: it wasn't everyday she discovered the surviving Famine'rs.

"Well", the alchemist turned to Kiwi, who was still standing near. "I guess we have other choice than to attack... though, something tells me it's not exactly correct idea".

Eisheth summoned her Hell's Welder. Sighing, she sent the chain towards the creature.

"Heidla, priestess of the Death clan", Heidla said between her teeth. Not the best timing for formalities, as the creature started to move and was menacingly close. But - oh well, that's Famine - she read a lot about their Clan, and have not met them before, so she made a note to herself to find the person later.

Oh no! Their Protector attacked the creature. Then her musings were wrong, the creature was dangerous enough. Heidla felt sorry for it - and was angry at herself and ashamed for this unwanted pity. Could it be that she had lost the sense of everything and just could not tell friend from foe anymore?

The priestess made a sharp hissing sound and rushed into the battle. Her small sickle flashed like lightening - the skin of the creature was soft and damp as clay - yet she could not inflict any damage on it.

Kiwi's bangles hissed against one another as he launched himself forward. No way in Famine would he let anything harm his beloved clan again.

The horseman meant business. In a moment his sickle-like weapon had appeared in his right hand, chain extending to his left. Kiwi rushed forward, summoning his horse as he did so, and crouched atop it's back as it galloped straight for the beast. Just as it began to come around astride the mighty earthen creature, he jumped, tossing his sickle into the air.

The razor sharp tip hit earth and wood, dug in and caught as Kiwi swung himself up, landing just far enough atop the beast to get a foothold before dragging the chain along it's side, carving a wound into it's forest hide. He gave a cry as he tore the sickle free, catching it as he tumbled back into thin air, wings outstretched to ease his fall. Score for the horsemen.

Late to the party, Shaheen had been off doing...whatever it was she did in her spare time. On her flight back towards the village, the commotion from far below caught her eye and she made a swooping descent towards the ground to see what was going on. As she did so, the hurried discussions, the shouts, the whistling of weapons as they cut through the air, they all became much more clear, as did whatever it was that they were all fighting against.

Ah the sounds of battle, music to the war chieftains ears as she came to a hurried stop in the air, hovering in an area not far away from Shik, whom she offered a quick nod before letting her own weapon fly.

Act first, think later.

And somehow miss the massive mossy/earth monster that was right there right in front of her. How embarassing.
