Jove couldn't help it, he was knocked sideways despite all his struggles to remain on top. But at least scuffling on the floor kept his weak side from tripping him up! He lashed out with a tendril, smacking into the other boil like an elbow to the gut. But the little ghost was getting really tired and the blow lacked the power it could have contained...

How did this other boil keep hitting him with things that he couldn't even see? He had to assume it was a ghost thing, but it was slightly disconcerting to be struck by something that wasn't even visible. His eyes had only just inched open once more when he felt the other boil topple off of him, when something slammed into his gut. Not hard enough to knock the wind out of him, but enough to make him shoot up into a sitting position, despite the dizziness that still washed over him in waves, his arms going to block his already accosted stomach defensively in case another invisible force was sent in to deal him another blow.

He shot a red eyed glare towards the other boil, before turning slightly and sending a booted kick in his direction, his wings puffing up behind him indignantly.

Jove wheezed as the kick caught him on his side. And not his good side. He would be bruised all over after today, and probably limping for half a week. But somehow he managed to lash out with the tendrils again, this time with sharpened points like claws. He wouldn't be the only one with cuts and bruises once this match was done!

And there it was again. Some invisible force now clawing at him, coming from out of nowhere, coming from what felt like everywhere at once. He knew the ghost boil was responsible, and it made Mathias's ears twitch in irritation, and he began to flail around a little, fighting against what couldn't be seen, attempting to slap away whatever was slicing into him, opening up fresh wounds on his arms that matched those on his chest. If it wasn't for his Fear shield, he would have likely been shredded at this point, instead of just sporting a few new cuts and bruises

Realizing that he would probably be better off attacking the source instead of what he couldn't see, he scrambled up into a crouched position with a small huff of breath, legs bunched up beneath him before he pounced. With claws held at the ready, he was able to swipe at the ghost boil with his natural weaponry.

The flailing was kinda funny. But Jove could have just been reaching the limits of his FEAR, and one's mind didn't always work as well as it should in situations like this. Things could seem overly silly if one got too tired or too close to pain and dissipation.

This time he didn't make it back to his feet, he could only weakly struggle to a crouch. If he tried to put too much weight on his left side it just gave way underneath him, unceremoniously dropping him back to his knees. He lashed out again with his invisible clawed arms, hoping to drive the other boil farther back.

Another of the invisible tendrils whipped against him, this time cutting into his cheek right below his eye. It had him stumbling back shortly after his own attack on the ghost boil, one hand raised to press against the assaulted area, and coming away with a small smear of blood. His Fear shield was still in tact, and he knew that it would heal. He wouldn't have minded a scar, however. Scars were only signs of a battle hard fought, and sometimes hard won. He accepted all of his scars, the ones across the back of his neck, the ones on his arms, the ones that crisscrossed his chest, with a certain amount of pride for each.

Wary now, and feeling a bit run down from the spar, he circled around the boil, giving him a fairly wide berth once more as he tried to decide what best way to jump in and deliver another strike.

Jove still couldn't get his feet under him, so he could only settle for eyeing the other boil warily as he circled. He was really on his last legs. If he kept pushing the fight onwards he would not be the victor, and yet... that's exactly what he wanted to do. He wanted to give it his all until he was down and out, and nobody could ever accuse him of backing down from a challenge.

Besides, he thought his opponent might be disappointed if he gave up at this point.

Not for the first time, Mathias felt a pang of guilt for fighting against a student that was already, and what looked to be, severely injured. Of course, he was able to dismiss such thoughts when he remembered that the other boil had wanted this, and was still not backing down, despite lying on the floor looking like he had no fight left in him to give.

He continued to circle, fingers curling and uncurling from fists at his sides, fingers stretching, knuckles cracking, claws spread and ready. It was like he was now not just looking for an opening, but trying to decide how best to end it. Claws? Fists? A swift kick? Maybe he should jump the boil and bite him again, since that seemed to be his opponents attack of choice before he began striking with invisible, spiky tendrils...

Jumping forward, he opted for the swift kick, sending and booted foot with three inch thick soles towards the ghost boils injured side. Maybe he would give up after this.

Mathias was getting tired, though he wouldn't ever admit it.

Jove saw the attack to his weak side coming, and it was all he could do to flinch back and protect it with his arm. It truly was his weakness, and had he left it unguarded, a blow such as this boil's kick would have felt like being struck by the most uncaring of motor vehicles. Even partially blocked it was a blow the little ghost could have done without.

He winced, letting out a ragged breath, but he didn't so much as lift a hand in submission.

After kicking at the boil on his more tender side, and noting yet again that the ghost still would not submit towards defeat or get up and fight back, he let out a frustrated growl from the back of his throat, lip curling back again to reveal bared teeth and fangs. He wasn't used to his fights ending like this. Usually he was the one down on the ground getting beaten until his Fear shield broke, and even then he often wouldn't quit. It was why his body was decorated with so many scars, ones that were hidden at the moment by the clothes that covered him from rabbit eared head to booted toe.

Eyes narrowed, he began circling again, before aiming another well aimed kick towards the boils other side, harder this time then before, more willing to add more force as it was not the weaker, more bandaged part of the boil. Why wouldn't he just quit? Mathias refused to stop until the ghost boil finally relented, as much as it left a sour taste in his mouth. It just wasn't done.

Jove tried to protect himself from the second kick but he was at the end of his fight. He was pushed onto his side, and it was all he could do to struggle back to his hands and knees, body weak and shaking. Even that didn't last long, as he collapsed onto his stomach the best he could do was to watch the other boil. His silent stare belied his prone position.

In fact, it was as if the little canine was saying "Kick me again. I dare you." He was done, and yet still didn't accept submission.

Mathias continued to pace around the boil, red eyes narrowed and teeth bared. He didn't want to get slapped around with more invisible spikey things, but it occurred to him at some point that he hadn't felt that sting in quite some time.

He watched as the ghost struggled to his hands and knees, his body becoming tensed, the muscles in his legs flexing as he considered lashing out with another well aimed and heavily booted kick to the boils mid drift. He considered it, but then watched with a certain, small amount of satisfaction as the boil instead collapsed to the floor, eyes locked on his own.

He was done. He was done, and Mathias knew it, but yet he still stared at him, as if daring him to continue. He could continue, he knew he could beat him into dissipation if that was what was needed to end this without any shadow of a doubt of who actually one.

"Vut do I have to do?" He finally growled, taking a step back, muscles in his legs fully relaxing. "Do you vant me to keep kicking you vhile you are down? I vill! I vill do it if you do not at least admit defeat." He brought his arms up to cross over his chest, and stared right back down at the ghost boil, eyes hard.

"Or I can valk away, and leave you there." His tone was still hard, but was losing the edge of the growl that was laced with his previous words.

"Or..." He sighed, though he looked more irritated then anything else now, "I can help you up, and ve can go see this nurse I have heard about. You do not seem vell."

Jove bared his teeth fiercely, responding to the other boil's aggressive posture. But by the same token, his own fighting spirit calmed down as the growl left his opponent's voice. He snorted, not quite admitting defeat, not quite agreeing to be kicked into complete dissipation, but more an acknowledgement that he was in a sad and sorry state. And thus... unable to be the victor in this match.

The failure didn't rankle him though, even though he had been beaten up by a first year. It was good to fight with someone his own size for a change. Was this what all the taller students felt like when they fought their like-sized peers?

Jove lay there quietly for another second or two before laboriously pushing himself to a sitting position. The left side of his face was beginning to bruise despite taking the hits to his body, and his left ear refused to stand up like the right. It gave him a very lopsided look, aided by the way he cradled his left arm. He didn't need to go so far as the veterinarian though! A good night's sleep would at least get him back on his feet.

He sat there and weighed his options, and watched the other boil. It might be embarrassing to try staggering to his feet, but at least his skull pin was keeping him from poofing back into his fluffy natural form in his severely weakened state. Thank Jack for small blessings!

By the time Mathias had finished dolling out options, his aggressiveness seemed to subside, the tension easing away, though he did utter a few choice curse words in a foreign language under his breath, rolling his eyes skywards before sighing very loudly just one more time.

Suddenly, and without warning, he collapsed to the floor near the other boil, crossed his legs, and let his head rest on an open palm, his black claws tapping against his cheek as he continued to study the ghost, who had managed to push himself up until he was sitting, but from what he could tell no longer wished to attack. Good, that was good, because as much as Mathias loved a good fight, he also very much approved of coming away with a hard wrought win. Size wise he wasn't even really thinking about how nice it was to come across somebody of the same vertical stature as himself, but rather was dealing with mild frustration at having very little clue as to what to do next.

He opened his mouth as if to speak, then closed it. What wast the point of speaking if he would get no reply? Mentally shrugging, he opened his mouth a second time, only to impart on the ghost boil three complete honest and thickly accent words. "You look awful."

Jove watched the other boil's dark claws, the lopsided ears giving him an almost inquisitive appearance. He didn't have to look at his own hands to know his nails were pathetically short and blunt in comparison. Even in his natural form, it was his teeth that were weapons, not his claws. Maybe with his shape-changing ability... Someday he should try... Hmm...

The little ghost was brought back to the present moment with another snort, and although he didn't smile there was some measure of amusement in his eyes. Looking awful was only natural, his left side would be an absolute mess by now. But he knew he had given about as much as he had received this time around.
