Semok Oh yeah. I guess that makes sense. It would have been my legal name years ago if it wasn't for my mom, though. I don't understand how our legal name, which most people are stuck with for their entire life (unless they do all this file filin' out and stuff) is a name that we had no power to choose for ourselves. When you turn 18 you should have to, like, announce what your name is from then on, whether it changes or not. It could be a cool step into adulthood. Havin' the power to name yourself! xd Also. You're in a competition with yourself, Aoi. I'm no part of it. naming is really just a convention for giving people an identity, so it's harder to justify moral killing and such. But everyone decided we needed identification and so they had to add in legal qualities with naming conventions. Otherwise I could totally see it being cool to go from an it to someone with a name. Having 18 years to figure out if you're going to be worth something, or be killed because it's aren't person's type thing. Little bit of a you're not a person till you've lived a little philosophy, just extend that a few years.

Nowadays, the transition from childhood to adulthood is too murky, with people reachin' puberty at younger and younger ages, not knowin' what to do, and then havin' lots of new responsibilities placed upon them while still constricin' them for years. It's not natural, it's not helpin' the transition go any easier. It's all about blind obedience instead of limitless exploration into definin' who we are.

I wonder how quickly we would all kill each other if we didn't give people an identity until they were 18 or so. Essentially all people under 18 are non-persons. So it's not immoral to "post birth abort" (in some sense of the term) them for 18 years of life essentially.

KazeRin Semok, I'm guessing what Aoi meant was, since Semok isn't your birth name yet you use it as your name, it makes sense you'd have sometimes forget your own name. Aoi... drink some orange juice, go for a walk, eat some fresh vegetables, and get a job. Drinking and drugging yourself is just pathetic. iKitty_Cate, Welcome. This is how Aoi is.. don't take anything personally. He thinks all girls must be weird, but he's the weirdo. I hate you you know that. emo And how the **** can I get a job if no one will even ******** hire me or even call me for an interview. emo I mean at least I have SOMETHING to make money with, and will hopefully have a job for the fall, but it's stupid. It's like all employers care about is work experience, EDUCATION doesn't even matter.

You're in a competition with yourself, Aoi. I'm no part of it. Many of us are still pretty dumb at 18 and would choose something vapid, just like many 18-year-old's tattoos rolleyes Don't get me wrong, I think some might come up with good names, and I know some who've gotten nice tattoos that they might actually still like at 30, but... too many 18 year olds haven't figured it out yet. Having a consistent name makes things easy for society. It's bad enough if the government decides to include or exclude your middle names, and worse if you change your name when you get married - none of your official documentation is relevant anymore. Which is part of why in Quebec, when you get married you don't automatically take your husband's last name. It's rough trying to dig up your medical history if your name has been changed. So changing names should require a bit of hoop-jumping, just to discourage people from causing headaches for themselves and the system.

That's because universities and colleges have decided that "expanding your horizons" is more important than job-training. If you wanted your school to get you a job, you should have gone into a technical school or trade school. That's where they'll teach you how to do a job, and that's where companies look for new recruits. College teaches theories and tries to mould you into the kind of person your profs or department think is right. It doesn't make you much better for any job but research assistant.

My brother Blaine went to the same college as me, but he got a degree in secondary education, and is now a math teacher, well was cuz he had to start at a bad school and at the end of the year horrible s**t started to happen so he resigned, but now that he has 1 year of teaching, getting hired at a place he wants to be at is way more likely now. He gets a salary, 33000$ a year. That's why it's easy to major in education cuz you ALREADY Know what job you are going to go in to.

So changing names should require a bit of hoop-jumping, just to discourage people from causing headaches for themselves and the system. If they're too immature at that age, it's a good lesson. Also, it would still be possible to change it later, or at least I think that should still be implemented. I just think it should be easier once you've reached adulthood. Or at least I think it should be easier the first time around. Also, changin' names does get harder as you age, which annoys me, since I could have had mine changed by now. In a sense, it's a bit easier for me, since I have no middle name. However, I've since learned that some airline organizations require you to give your middle name when buyin' a plane ticket, which has lead to some interestin' situations.
