Through the sheet of rain, Nishati could make out the silhouettes of many helpful pride members as they searched through the storm. Instinct told her to keep away and so she veered in a direction with a lot less traffic; if she were a scared, lost, baby prey animal, she would probably find some tree roots to hide under. Or at the very least, stay away from all the large creatures snuffling around.
Pushing her way forward, blinking away rain and flicking it from her ears, she scoured her surroundings through slitted eyes.
They have to be around here somewhere! Oh Gods, please protect them!

Hoshi Lockhart Congrats! Uncerts will be provided after the game is done! Ester thought she caught sight of... wait, was that a lion cub with one of the genet babies?! Alarmed, the lioness snagged both babies close, sheltering them from the storm as best she could. "Oh Hoku, w-w-what are y-you d-doing out here?" she asked in both gratefulness and affection. She gently nudged the second rescued baby towards the frightened mother genet, but kept Hoku cuddled close. "D-does y-your m-mother know y-you are out here?" she asked the cub in a kindly tone. It was scary enough out here, the babe didn't need to be yelled as as well.

A worried cry cut through the noise of the storm, and Nishati whipped about, fearing the worst. She couldn't stop the thoughts that a baby had been lost for ever from crowding her mind. As she located the source of the sound, she was instantly relieved to see that it was, in fact, a baby being brought home. The distress seemed to be solely due to the fact that a cub was the one doing the bringing.
Sighing, she returned to the hunt, ensuring to stay close enough to hear any further developments while also venturing far enough away that a hiding baby might feel safe.

With a relatively clean paw, Kifu decided to switch gears. His needed to stop barking up the wrong trees. A part of him wanted to groan at the terrible pun, but what came out as a delight snicker. At least he was no longer letting his mood flare up. It was just out of character for the wild dog. He was laid back, calm, enjoyed just existing.
The search was back on though! He was going to try listening this time. Maybe his ears could tell him something through the pitter patter of the rain on the trees. The storm had lightened just a tad, enough that the thunder was not cracking his concentration ever few seconds. There was just so many bustling around to find the little ones! Picking out little claws was a challenge in the best of conditions, and this was nowhere near that. He let his weak feet take him a little further out from the crowd, hoping to pick up anything (a sound, a smell) useful.

"HOKULANI?!" Noelani yelled a little louder than she meant to as she caught sight of Ester pulling her little sister close. The genet and her babies were temporarily forgotten with this recent developement.
Her golden eyes went huge, even more so than when she had seen the tree branch fall, and she rushed over, immediately nuzzling the cub and sniffing her, a bit panicked.
Was she okay? Had she been injured? How long had she been out in the storm? Oh goodness, this little girl...
Once she was sure her sister was in one piece, she took a step back and looked to Ester, trying to replace her look of panic with a genuine smile.
"Thank you for finding her...I'm sure mother had no idea she was out here in this storm", the last word held a note of agitation that Hokulani should have known well enough by now. It meant Noelani was irritated with her but the expression on her face was one of utter relief at the realization that her sister was safe.
"You can believe I'll talk to my mother about this, let her know that her baby is safe and sound," she stated to Ester in a way that Noe hoped would make a pointed statement to Hoku as well.

Three babies were already found and the production was getting harder to follow by. Moving faster, she wanted to help and show that she could pick up her own weight in this weather. Almost catching yet another, she was pushing herself to try and help yet her body was taking a harsh strain that was starting to slowly increase.

The wild dog's head snapped around, his ears perking up alert and straining to pick up that little sound he just heard. He focused on it, blocking out everything else around him, and followed it. He had to keep focus on it, or else he would lose it again. He moved faster than he had since before the dance competition had ended, but this was important, and deserved swift action.
It was strange, he was moving closer to the search parties again, closer to the mother genet even. Then the dog connected the dots. He had started to track one of the little genets that had already been returned to its mother. He stopped abruptly, hearing mud fly everywhere. He would not let this get him down. If he heard that little one so far away, he was bound to hear another little one shortly.

Passing a disturbed shrub, Nishati stopped and pushed her nose against it. Opening her mouth to draw even the slightest tinge of scent over her tongue, she growled in exasperation to find that the only thing she smelled was water.
Lifting her head and glancing around, she noticed a wild dog drifting toward her - she was fairly certain his name was Kifu. Heading toward her was most likely not intentional. But perhaps it would be better to work with a partner - a group of two was small enough to be non-threatening, but an extra pair of eyes and ears, and a good nose, was always a boon.
Approaching Kifu, she briefly bumped her muzzle against his shoulder in greeting. Raising her voice to heard above the storm, she asked, "Have you had any luck?"

She ran even more, picking up the speed as she huffed and huffed, trying to find one. Still, no scents were around and no scurrying babies to spot and try to grab. Oi, this was taking a turn for the worst, yet this storm was trying to let up and she growled, pushing herself to speed up.

The pale figure in the distance had turned out to be something else. What Hoku had thought was her older sister was not her older sister. On closer inspection, the fur was brighter and the creature smaller. Much smaller. Tilting her head to the side, the cub opened her mouth and gathered the little baby in her mouth, struggling with the strange weight now attached to her front. The baby struggled, making her job a lot harder. Fortunately, she managed to get it back to Ester and the little guy's mother. She was about to take off, again, in search of Noe when she was grabbed. Orange eyes looked up at the lioness.
"No..." she replied softly. She opened her mouth to say something else, when a much louder voice broke the air and made her ears go back.
Of course Noe would be mad. But she couldn't help it. She had wanted to help. Not be stuck inside a den, useless. Had it not been for her, that white baby would still be missing longer.

Kifu smelled something... different? The wild dog did not think it was not genet, but he wanted to find out what exactly it was. It could be, he had not made a habit of sniffing genets as a pup or anything insane like that. But it definitely smelled new. Following the scent, the wild dog drew closer to the scorched lands. They were no longer warm, but much less muddy than before. He kept sniffing, tracking, until reached one of the hollowed out logs that had been used for the dance. Upon turning it over, a little mouse scurried away. It was much less exciting than Kifu expect, but it had been stuck, so at least he saved someone.

Trying to increase her speed, she tripped over herself as she fell and groaned as she sat up and huffed, trying to calm herself down with the search. The fires were lessening out by her sight, so they could be easier to track, yet it was hard enough because it was muddy and raining.

As Kifu padded off, intent on some scent or another, Nishati turned away to continue on in her original direction. If Kifu did find anything, she was close enough to hear him if he needed help. She didn't feel slighted in any way - they were all determined on finding the babies.
Scanning the area she could see through the downpour, she noticed movement up ahead and crept toward it. If it was a genet baby, she didn't want to scare it off.
As she drew close, she caught the scent of bird, and soon after spotted it. Pretending to lunge, she swiped lazily at the bird to scare it off. She didn't think anyone else would want to mistake it for a lost baby.

Sighing, the dog held his head high and worked his way back to the tree line. In following the mouse's scent, he had not realized how far out he had gone. It was not hard for him to navigate his way back, there was a big enough gaggle of predators to find his way back well enough. There were only little slips and trips along the way, nothing he did not (attempt) to gracefully recover from. The dog had a title to uphold, after all. He made sure to keep sniffing for anything interesting along the way - that was the whole point of the exercise.

Calm enough, she began to trace her steps back the directions she took, hoping to come across one as she moved. Lives like these were to be saved and she wanted to do something about it; she couldn't just stand around and do nothing while children were at stake.
