It was a strange thing, though - why the children would dash away from their parents. Maybe the novelty of the area? He huffed again. It felt like it was getting colder. Was that even possible?
He called out, hoping to catch the attention of one of the missing cubs. No doubt they would come out soon, seeking the warmth of their parents or a guardian. "Hello? Come out little children," he called, trotting off along the side of the lake.
His worry grew.

Sven paused a moment when it seemed as though one of the cubs had been found. Oh, well that was wonderful!
Though, at the same time, he was concerned because it also meant the two cubs hadn't been hiding together. One was still out there somewhere, and potentially in trouble, to boot! Sven smiled towards the found cub, but was soon back into serious business mode.
He was going to continue to help until the other cub was found, too, no matter what it took! Soon they would be a happy family again and the pride would be happy again, too!

Hans spotted a break in the ice a short distance from him and hurried over. It was a small break, but maybe large enough for a small cub? It was a distressing thought. Though Hans' first priority was to himself, he still hoped that the cubs were safe. However, he noticed no tracks nearby, so he noted the position of the break in his mind and continued on.
Noticing that some of the searchers were moving towards the edges of the lake, he did the same, searching the nearby drifts of snow, wondering if he would find a cub.
Thought he'd gotten no response so far, he continued to call out in his steady, reassuring voice.

Hearing one of the cubs had been found had been joyous news indeed! He could feel relief within his chilled bones. However, there was still a cub to be found! What silly little cubs would wander off in the cold and then hide where they could not warm the others.
But they were children, and Mzimu was determined to see both cubs safe before he wandered off again. He just hoped they would be kept under a better watch next time...

Not to be deterred from the lack of evidence that the cub was even still there, Sven decided maybe he could sniff the cub out. He started to sniff the air, before lowering his head towards the ground.
Yes... yes, he could just about sniff something he hadn't really smelled before. It was...
He let out a pained yelp as he pulled back from the ground, having snorted up a large portion of snow in his misguided effort to sniff the ground. Shaking his head furiously, he fought off the ill-gotten brain freeze, cursing himself for a moment for not considering what might happen if he accidentally inhaled the chilled snow on the ground.
He huffed and snorted, until the brain freeze finally started to fade.

Hans heard the call go up that one cub had been located. He was torn between a feeling of relief that the cub had actually been found and one of disappointment that he hadn't been the one to find the missing furball. Still, there was one cub yet to be found and clearly the two siblings had not been lost together.
So he still had a chance to be a hero.
He strode confidently through the drifts of snow, checking anywhere that a small body might hide, though his thoughts drifted back to that small break in the ice and wondered if the missing cub was lost for good.

As Ezen walked he heard the call go up that one of the cubs had been found. Oh good...one down, one to go. That was a bit concerning that they weren't together, though. Were they siblings that didn't get along well? He frowned a bit at that. Siblings that didn't like one another were a bit silly in his opinion. Of course it was easy to not appreciate what you had until it was gone.
He rolled his shoulders and continued to walk, sniffing heavily. There had to be some sign of this last cub...perhaps they had been playing hide and seek? He cleared his throat slightly and sat down in the snow before speaking up.
"Come on out, you've won.'

The waterbuck was so distracted by the announcement of a found cub, and his chilled boned that he managed to bump his chilled knees upon a felled tree. Perhaps he wouldn't be much help after all.
"Come out little one, no one's here to hurt you," he said, however, hoping the cub was close by and would be coaxed out by a gentle voice. His voice wasn't the most pleasing to the ear, but it wasn't cruel, so he hoped for anything that it would work.

No luck. Ezen let out a gruff huff and, growing a bit impatient, let out a frustrated snarl. Right, cubs, shouldn't try to scare them...should try to make them feel comfortable. He ended up flopping over in the snow, finding it a bit of a comfort to him. He could hear the voices of others around him looking for the cubs, but he was done. Let them come to him...that was a better bet. He could pretend to be a large pile of snow and maybe the last cub would come tumbling over to him.
It was worth a shot, right? Hopefully no one would end up stepping on him. That wouldn't make him very happy.

Now that his head and nose were both hurting him, Sven sat himself down, pouting a bit as he shook his head one more time.
As he sat, he started to feel like something wasn't quite right. There was something terribly cold under him. Or was it hot? He couldn't really tell, but considering where they were, he was going to go with cold.
Standing up, Sven attempted to look at his behind to see what he had sat on, but of course he couldn't quite get a very good view. He ended up going in a couple of circles, all the while failing to see the chunk of ice clinging to his booty.
"Come on, I have cubs to find! Come off," he huffed.

This search was taking a lot longer than Hans had expected. He imagined that he one cub was back with the anxious and distraught parents, but there was still one young cub out there. He irritably hoped that both cubs and parents would learn from the experience, though he was at least grateful for the opportunity to better his own image.
After all, reputation was everything.
The air seemed to be getting colder as Hans approached some trees on the edge of the lake. He was sure to scan their branches as well, remembering how accomplished he'd been at climbing large trees even when he was a cub. After all, with twelve older brothers, he'd had to learn quickly.
"Hello? Is there anyone here? Please come out."

Mzimu sighed, his plan not working. He would simply have to continue his search elsewhere. He stretched his chilled jointed and trotted along the edge of the lake once again, looking into the frozen surface of the lake. He frowned at it, but didn't see any major breaks. Perhaps a cub could still slip through. He gave a pause, looking further in.
Maybe there was a weak spot along the surface, further in.
He paced gently before moving further along the edge. "Little one, please don't be in the lake," he said in near desperation.

Everyone still seemed to be looking with all their hearts, putting in the maximum amount of effort they could possibly afford.
Sven, meanwhile, was a little distracted.
While he wanted to find the cubs, he also wanted the ice off his butt, so while everyone else was hunting for the cub, Sven was dragging his behind along the ground, hoping to knocked the ice from his frozen fur. He didn't seem to mind how ridiculous he looked- everyone was too busy to notice him, anyway.
He managed to get the ice off, standing up again with a bright smile. Good! Now it was back to work.
