Ifunci couldn't help but feel a sense of belonging as his group began to pad off towards the vultures, Isasa's words not even reaching his ears. Not only were they a fairly good sized group, but a few of the other Lusizi had decided to join. The young male dashed to over to walk next to Gabedi, feeling heartened by the young male's bold words towards Andhaka. Ifunci certainly never would have been brave enough to say anything like that, even though Gabedi surely was right. Umholi, even when defeated, deserved their assistance for their service and leadership. And even a lion without a full mane could help with that! Ifunci shot a shocked glance at Gabedi upon the other Lusizi's announcement. Blood? And hyenas? Ifunci sniffed the air, opening his mouth slightly. "I smell blood as well!" He couldn't smell the hyenas, but he trusted Gabedi's senses. Ifunci stopped to try and focus on where the scent was coming from.
Simo; Vultures Offering her companion a reassuring look at the sight of the adolescents that had expressed their desire to join them Simosihle waited for Ukushisa to take up the lead of their group, watching their numbers follow her before taking up the rear so that she could keep any eye out for potential trouble from behind.
She didn't necessarily mind having the Lusizi boys along with her and would have rather seen them out of trouble and far away from the Inselelo than find out later on that a scuffle had occurred that had brought injury to one of her pride sister's sons.
Simo was busy checking in with Dania to be sure the skittish lioness was okay when the first of their little explorers picked up a scent and it wasn't long until the other confirmed it. Blood and hyenas? Admittedly a bit proud of the boys for being such well developed trackers--for it certainly spoke well of their pride--she was confident they would do well once they had fully grown into their manes and took their first true steps into the roguelands.
Well done, Gabedi! Infunci! Your mothers should be proud. It was no small compliment, the Umama didn't give them lightly, her long, lean frame jogging hurriedly to reach the front of the group to see if she could also smell the scents they had discovered as well as the source. Somehow, in her hurry, she didn't notice a stone in her path and as her her paw descended on the smooth surface, it rolled out from under her, nearly taking an entire lioness with it. How embarrassing!
Njalo; Pawprints
With Bemfola in tow Njalo giddily followed the others, including the red pelted male, as they began their journey to discover where the trail of pawprints lead. Occasionally she brushed against one of her pridemates as she passed, showing random bouts of affection to anyone who might stand still long enough to endure it. Her focus, however, remained on the impressions themselves. Sticking her own smaller paws into the chaotic flurry, she tried to follow their trail by copying them exactly step for step. Spinning and dancing to some unheard beat as she dizzily twisted and stretched to fill both sets of scuffling pawprints. Despite the sobriety of the group, Njalo laughed, carefree as the day she was born. Her ears pricking quite suddenly to the faint sound of chirping.
And just like that, the Abaholi and her quest were forgotten.
Chicks! Njalo giggled excitedly, resting her forepaws on the base of the tree where she had discovered the noise to have derived from. With her head tilted back to stare up at the slapdash nest wedged into the branches the cheery lioness wondered if anyone else would come investigate them.

The sun was just now starting to rise above the horizon and into the sky. The darkness of the night faded away as the reds, oranges, pinks and purples began dominating the sky as well as the bright blue of a clear sky. A few clouds dotted the skies, but they were small and hardly even noticeable.
Pawprints
Snakes, blood, blood, more blood. Everything was so fuzzy in the Busisa's mind as she stayed close to Andhaka. Was there...anything that would bring her memory back, to get her out of this fog? Did someone just mention a vulture's nest? Brown eyes widened as suddenly Ukame's pace picked up and soon she was off in a run. It was all coming back to her now as they continued moving. The fighting she had seen, the manes flying... The paw prints had since faded away underneath her footsteps.
"This way!" She yelled back without even looking back towards anyone else.
Ukwazi had been picking up the rear of the group, making sure everyone stayed together. the last thing anyone needed was to have some of them lag behind. Snakes. Ugh, she hated them. Vile, legless creatures...At least it was dead now. Wait, was someone else yelling? Leaning to the side as she heard voices ahead only to see Ukame running off without the group.
The scene was just as her mind told her it would be. Blood stained the ground in small splatters while parts of both Surtak and Gakere's manes littered the ground, some of their fur stuck in the blood even. Claw marks scraped in every which way, grass flattened and scattered to the wind. The smell of the Abaholi and of the blood was everywhere in this area. Everything pointed to a fight, just as Ukame's yelling had told the pride there had been, but...
Surtak and Gakere were nowhere to be found.
Ukame's eyes darted around frantically, her heartbeat racing as she tried to find the remains of either of the Abaholi. There was nothing. Of course there wasn't, but the smells, the blood, the fur, it was enough. They would believe her right? She didn't just see that, it hadn't been a vision, she knew the difference, she did... The dark lioness began scraping at the ground nervously, unsure of exactly why she was doing it. She knew it helped though.
Maybe someone with a good nose would notice though, but there was also the lingering scent of a hyena mingled with the two male lions'. It wasn't uncommon and could just be pure coincidence.
Vultures
The cackling of the hyenas and the smell of blood got stronger as Ukushisa and the rest of the group finally got closer to where the vultures had been circling. Pushing her way through the grass, she finally saw what it was that had gotten the buzzards' interest for so long. On the ground were probably a half dozen for the bone pickers, their large wings splayed as they hopped around, picking at the remains of a body that the red Umzingeli couldn't quite see what or who it was. All she saw though was the blood that stained the ground beneath the mass of feathers.
A roar rang through the air, one that belonged to a lioness.
Suddenly the vultures took to the air awkwardly as a dappled lioness pushed her way through them, standing over the remains of a wildebeest calk, that some of the lionesses' might recognize as scraps from a kill a few Umzingeli and Busisa had took down a couple of days ago. Imbali's lips were raised, her bloody face showing off her impressively long fangs. Her back was covered in scratches as were her legs. Looking around almost frantically, she froze for only a few seconds, she locked eyes with a couple of of the other lions who had just shown up. They obviously confused her, shocked her even as the lioness' lips fell for only a moment.
The cackling was back.
Two hyenas were cackling as one began nipping at the dappled lioness' back legs while the other attempted to drag the rotting body away by one of its exposed leg bones. Snarling loudly, Imbali spun around to snap her jaws towards both of the nuisances. Both of the scavengers simply just laughed as they seemed to almost dance away. The dance between the two hyenas and the lioness continued on for several minutes with no intervention and while Imbali wished one of the watching lions would, she didn't expect it.
Ukushisa glanced to the Umama with concern, her ears back. This lioness wasn't part of the pride, she was rogue. That kill had long since been abandoned and so the pride had little to no reason to help her aside from just the sake of helping her. Normally Ukwazi would have been there to hold her back, to get her to see the other side to this. This lioness could be a poacher, but she could have also been looking for the pride to join it... Throwing her own worries out, she charged into the fray with or without the rest of the group.

Well over 24 hours has passed, so we'll continue on~! Please make sure you read both of the spoilers above! Remember to tag the top of your post with which group your character is with.
Pawprints You now get to react to what you all discovered. No rolling for you guys this time, sorry!
Vultures You have the option to help Imbali deal with the hyenas. Because there was a 'no danger to your character' in the beginning, you are not obligated to help her.
If you want to help though, roll 1 6-sided dice. .: If you roll a 5 or 6, you successfully get the attention of one of the hyenas, get it away from the group and run it off, but you get some nasty scratches and a bite to show for it. .: If you roll a 3 or 4, you successfully get the attenion of one of the hyenas and get it away from her, but instead of it running off, it just begins harassing the group. They cause no injury though, just annoyance. .: If you roll a 1 or 2, you fail to even phase the hyenas. You get a kick to the face though. Whoops!
One roll per character per post. You can roll multiple times though, just in different posts. Once both hyenas have been run off, 24 hours has passed or everyone opts to not help her, this side will progress.

Kinga was quick in following Ukushisa, any worry a brief afterthought. She too was concerned about the lioness, but the two hyena spelled bad news for her. Though she was only an adolescent, she had obviously taken after he father in size, and was a good height and weight. Moving with some speed she approached with both a snarl and a look of concern, she ran towards the closest of the hyenas. "Hey!" This was not a jovial greeting, this was a warning, and the tone of her voice showed that clearly. She tried her best to drive the hyena away, but it didn't look like it was going to move any time soon. With a concerned glance over her shoulder for her chocolate-coloured brother, she stood her ground, paws firmly rooted to the earth, eyes narrowed at the strangers.

(Hope I've done this right, it says one roll per character per post <3 )
Kodoa looked after his sister with a worried glance, and took slightly longer to make his decision. Kinga was strong, and though her decision may have seemed impulsive, he knew that it was backed up by her strength and her courage. He didn't want her to face it alone, and his diminishing time with the pride meant that he wanted to leave a mark, to be seen as strong before he left. In all honesty, Kodoa wasn't the strongest male, nor the biggest. Average size, he used the time before he reacted to analyse the situation in his mind. A rotting kill, a lioness, and two hyenas. Anyone would come to the conclusion that it could be a mere scrap over food, but it seemed like it could be a little more. The lioness could be lost, ill, or maybe even a danger to the pride... Who knew. One thing was for sure, he wasn't going to hang back whilst his sister and his pride-mates approached the nasty looking hyenas! He tried to grab the attention of another of the hyenas with a roar, stepping forward to stand next to his sister with a firm nod.
Ifunci watch as a sudden pair of hyenas began snickering and sneering at Kodoa and Kinga. The young male felt himself shrink a little bit. Sure, they outnumbered the hyenas, but that didn't mean Ifunci wasn't afraid. He really hated fighting. But still...the strange lioness was being attacked, and his pridemates were getting themselves involved...and hadn't Ifunci come out this way to make sure that no one had gotten hurt? If Ifunci didn't do anything, someone could very well get hurt. Perhaps the hyenas weren't alone! If they didn't drive the pair off now, it could attract any of the other nasty scavengers lurking about the area. Ifunci, at full speed ran towards one of hyenas, getting as close as he dared. The hyena turned its attention on him, and Ifunci kept up his jog, encouraging a chase. If they could separate the two hyenas from each other, they would surely feel less confident about harassing a full group of lions!

She held a gasp at the scene lay before her, her and several other lions as she shimmied her way near the front. Ukungcola's nose was filled with the reeking scent of blood. It filled her head with a pain just being exposed to the scent alone. Just how much of it was there?
As she looked and observed as calm as she could the blood, the broken blades of grass and bits of fur Ukungcola pondered where the two injured lions could have gone? "Where..." She muttered, somewhat confused. "Where did they..." Her voice trailed off as a new scent reached her nose. Hyena. ... but. But that was just a coincidence right? The two Abaholi couldn't have fought with a hyena could they? After all, hyenas were just scavengers. She doubted they would dare to even think of attack a male lion.
With a troubled look she walked a few paces near Ukame. "What...?" She asked, and nodded to the ground where marks from her claws now stayed. What was she doing? Or was it not worthy of attention...

Mhisani looked up at the cry of a snake, promptly bristling and jumping away from the offending creature. When it slithered away, she finally returned to the path. Things seemed to go at a much more normative pace from here, as they found little of interest for a short time. She looked up as the seer declared a direction, apparently the right one... And then froze at the sight of the blood and hair, the signs of a fight and the smells of both the blood and the males. She looked around, stepping toward the scuffle point with some trepidation. "Where are they...?"
Zola avoided the serpent, ears back and fear in her eyes at the sight of it. It left, though... Or died. She wasn't sure, but she was happy for it to be gone. Her happiness was fleeting, though, as they found the evidence of the fight... But no lions. As she looked around, she couldn't help frowning. "I wonder where they went..." She gave a sniff of the air.
The dark brown-backed lioness hissed at the reptile, then looked to the Inslelo. "No, not bitten." Thankfully. She glanced after the creature, scowling at it. Vermin, all of them. She continued on the path with the others, noting the signs of the scuffle. "I smell hyenas... It's faint, though... It could be old..." The scent could likely have predated the fight that had clearly gone on.
Vultures
When the lioness and the hyenas came into sight, the dark brown male was immediately on the defensive, letting out a roar. They were attacking a lion! How dare they! He wasn't going to stand for that, regardless of relation to the pride! The way he saw it, everybody deserved a chance to, well... Not be eaten. And hyenas had never sat well with him, scavengers that ate even bones. Nothing was sacred to the beasts!
Njalo's bright, golden gaze stared intently up at the noisy chicks, but when she couldn't reach them and all the others had decided to dart behind Ukame she quickly lost interest as well. The sight of so many all rushing off out of the corner of her eye set the huntress sprinting behind, following them to what evidently had been ground zero for whatever had occurred between the two Umholi.
In the face of such a somber scene even Njalo couldn't smile, her expression falling at the overpowering scent of blood and male lions. Scraps of their fur were everywhere along with the harsh gouges of claw marks in the dirt. Surtak and Gakere had definitely been here, though they weren't now.
Glancing around Njalo stuck her nose in the wind, sucking in deep lungfuls of air to get an idea of which way the pair might have gone. She might not have been the most brilliant of their pride, but no one could contest that Njalo had always been widely accepted as one of the best solitary huntresses they had. A slow, intent look in her eyes as she strayed off on her own.
Simo; Vultures While finding an unfamiliar lioness on their lands was a startling revelation, Simosihle was relieved that the vultures descent from the endless blue heavens had been invoked by an old kill. Better that then a dead Umholi or a mother birthing cubs. Wasn't one of their own out here for just that purpose? It seemed unlikely given the lack of cubs over the year so far, but Simo was certain she had heard something to that effect.
The situation became more complicated than just a rogue lioness when the two hyenas appeared, giggling like fiends.
While it wasn't in her nature to let scavengers go rampant in their territory, especially with the potential of young cubs being around, the slate Umama also wasn't the sort who jumped blindly into a situation. Unfortunately it seemed Ukashisa was.
Groaning under her breath as the lioness leapt to the stranger's aid, followed closely by the adolescents in their care, Simosihle reluctantly trailed behind. Sure as sure, their antagonizing efforts to rescue the lioness only turned the hyenas on their small group instead and as Simoshile wheeled around to try and chase one of the hyenas off, her paw slipped and instead, she caught a sharp kick from the mangy beast's heel.
Apparently her slip on that rock earlier had strained something. Her muscles cramped up her forearm with each step as she tried to regain her baring and shake off the damage.

"They're gone."
The voice belonged to Ukame who sat dejectedly among the brutal scene, her paws still clawing at the ground. Eyes glazed over, she stared at a small splatter of blood before her. She was afraid of this, but they believed her enough. They had to. She was...she was the only one who had seen them! Seen them fight, seen them bleed.
"They finished their fighting and now...they're gone." Her words were coming out softer, quieter and much more cautious. Ukame knew what her words implied. She knew they could be seen badly, read badly. "Gone, gone to the wind. I..I don't.." Her attention turned to Ukungcola who had walked near her. "Gone. All gone..." The lioness' scratching continued, enough to begin to make her paws bleed.
Ukwazi's paws moved with determination as she approached the obviously panicked seer. "What do you mean gone? Why would they leave? Are they coming back?" Without the Abaholi, the pride would...would...well she didn't know what would happen but she knew it wouldn't be good.
"To different lands they've gone. Limping, bleeding...dying."
To...different lands? Clear blue eyes widened as she slowly shook her head. The Abaholi wouldn't...they wouldn't just..just leave the pride like that, would they? They had to have a reason. Why wouldn't the victor of the fight come back, claim the pride unless...unless they left to die. The suddenrealization hit Ukwazi like an angry mother hippo.
There had been no winner.
Vultures
The help had been welcomed by the strange other lioness. While none from the group had been the ones to chase the two scraggly beasts away, they did help in antagonizing the pair enough to have the hyenas leave of them own accord, though with the remains of the calf. It seems they had much better luck on their side than the group of lions and the stranger had.
As soon as the fighting was done, Ukushisa's ears fell as did her expression. She had rushed in, blindly so, to help a lioness she didn't even know. Ooooh how Ukwazi was going to give her an earful when they met back up. With a bit of shame, the red Umzingeli made her way back to the rest of the reforming group.
"Hey, thanks for the help. I really appreciate it."
The dappled lioness turned to address those that had been helping her with a toothy smile. While the hyenas had taken her breakfast, these lionesses looked...promising. They looked fit and there were even a couple of youngsters with them. They had to be part of a pride, there really wasn't any other way around that. Especially by the number of them.
"I don't suppose you have room for another? I'm a decent hunter, swear I am, just...hunting's been bad for me. All the game's moved on from where I'm from, land's been dryin' up. Downright inhospitable." Imabli, where others might have shown more humility, she kept her head tall and showed more confidence instead. A low roar later and a spotted vulture appeared from the nearby trees, landing upon her back. It wasn't full-size, probably still young by the look of the feathering.

Having accepted Isasa's answer that the snake hadn't bitten her with a nod and obvious relief, Andhaka had proceeded with the group to the scene, but rather than move to investigate, he watched Ukame with open curiosity as she clawed at the ground, and listened intently when she spoke, ears swung forward. The way she spoke...she was a seer. That explained a lot.
"Well, s**t," he observed dryly. "That's a problem." A problem they shouldn't be having; bad enough that the Abaholi had fought, worse still that they hadn't even left a winner. Stupid. Selfish.
And for him, potentially trouble. Some of the lionesses distrusted him - would they think he had been involved? That would really be a problem. Barring that, however...he was a proven, able-bodied male of acceptable color and dark mane. But those were thoughts he would keep to himself for now. At the moment, ambition was ragingly inappropriate and would almost certainly not be taken well, worse than anything he'd said earlier.

Vultures The shy lioness had followed along at the back, grateful for the Umama's reassurances. Her twin never had appeared and the loss of Kania made the young female nervy and uncertain. Had she really come to rely on her sister so much? Dania's head dropped at the thought. No wonder Kania had left for some alone time if this was Dania's true temper. Sighing softly she wondered where she had gone so wrong, and what could she do to be a better lioness for her sister's sake.
The sudden commotion up ahead caught her by surprise. Hyenas! Everywhere! One appeared to be coming straight for her! In a fit of fear-driven panic she roared loudly at the mangy animal, which only succeeded in turning its attention from the general melee to her specifically. As it cantered past laughing its paw flashed out, catching Dania across the face and sending her tumbling backwards.
Pain spread across her muzzle and she sighed. So much for changing your stripes, Danny girl... Hauling herself unsteadily to her feet she realised the hyenas had all gone and the strange lioness they had, apparently, rescued, was now talking to them. Slinking up alongside Simo, Dania kept her head down and only looked at the dappled stranger from under the fall of her mane.

Njalo; Pawprints
She didn't understand seer speak. When Ukame told the group the Abaholi were gone it didn't strike Njalo with the sort of poignancy that it might have the others of their group. The only thing that struck her was a need to follow the trail left behind by the figureheads of their pride. Simosihle would not believe her brother was not returning unless she had proof. Nalo wanted, though she couldn't explain why, to discover the truth if only to give her best friend closure. She might not have been able to give the Umama any answers to what had caused the violent battle, but she could at least return with solid evidence of Gakere's demise.
Crossing the edge of her pride, a place Njalo had gone few times in pursuit of prey, the bongo colored lioness would not come home until she did.
Simo; Vultures Relieved that the pesky fleabags had at least been harassed enough by the group to slink off in escape. Stealing away with a carcass the pride had long since been done with. She didn't particularly care for the message it sent, but there was no point in pursuing them further for something that was of no use to them. Instead, she swung her gaze to the lioness, staring at the female with a critical eye.
She wanted to join them, or so she claimed. It wasn't terribly surprising. The pride often took in strays looking for shelter. They were far friendly to rogue lionesses than lions, but even so she was a stranger. If she was admitted, every Busisa before her and every Umzingeli would be watching her closely. Her fate was ultimately up to the group of them, though there had been rare instances in the past where an Umholi had decided to override their decision. Usually it went unquestioned given their respected status, but there was always risk that he might lose favor if things turned out poorly.
We're always welcome to new additions as long as she doesn't prove herself a nuisance, but the choice of whether or not you can stay must be made by the lionesses of our pride as a group. Glancing at Ukushisa thoughtfully, she considered her next statement, speaking to her red pelted comrade in this little adventure. I don't see any harm in letting her stay in the territory until her fate has been decided though. What do you think?

Kinga was relieved to watch the hyena's slink off, it appeared their group had given them enough grief to take their leave. Her eyes narrowed after them as they dragged the carcass away, and her attention was now turned to the lioness, who seemed rather grateful of their help. She wanted to join, it appeared. This was usually how other females joined, seeking refuge or shelter individually, but there had been a dry spell of late. Without Abaholi to welcome the new members into the pride, the system had sort of... collapsed.
In the same vein as Simo, Kinga looked to Ukushisa. "I agree, as long as there is not trouble, there should be no concern." Though there were obviously other issues in the pride at the moment, it wouldn't be too much for someone to at least keep on eye on her.
Kodoa kept quiet. This was a matter for the lionesses of the pride to discuss, and as he was soon leaving, he had no place in trying to decide it's future. It was a strange feeling, this leaving business. He had been told that his father wasn't overly keen of leaving. That he'd been taken in by love and comfort, and though a traditionalist had a difficult time in saying goodbye.
Kodoa turned his eyes and his thoughts back to the female at hand. She was obviously a rogue, but the vulture companion, perhaps just a companion, or maybe something more. He could provide look-out, or maybe scout ahead for prides from which they could steal? The male tried to ignore the negative thoughts for a moment, and looked to his sister when she spoke.

Ukwazi's head swung around to look towards the Insenlelo that had accompanied them with distrust in her eyes. Perhaps he had something to do with this and had scared Ukame into not speaking about him or maybe he was just an unfortunate addition in this mess that pride was now in. Whatever his position in all of this, the Umzingeli knew she and the others would be keeping an eye on him. Not only him, but Jasiri and the other males too.
Out of the corner of her eye, she caught the figure which could only be Njalo, heading towards the direction of...the borders. Was she going to find the Abaholi or was she just leaving before things got any worse? Sighing heavily, this day was already off to a bad start and it would likely only get worse as the group would eventually head back to the rest of the pride and share the news.
Maybe the other group had better luck finding one of the Umholi's bodies...
"Andhaka," She called out to the red male. "Maybe we should head back. They're not here, at least not anymore and there's no other leads beyond a failing scent trail. There's so few of us and if we want to search for them...maybe a group would be better. Maybe one of the Enda, or even one of the Cinga has seen them." Hopefully, they would find the bodies if nothing else, but if they died, they bodies were likely picked clean by scavengers by now. If they were dying, it was only a matter of time, so if they wanted to search for one of them, they needed to do it quickly. Chance of survival in the unclaimed lands was low, especially for a wandering male who was also wounded to an unknown degree.
Vultures
The red Umzingeli's head turned towards the Umama, listening to her words carefully before nodding in agreement. "I don't see the harm in it. She does have a vulture. Another Cinga may be useful if she proves trustworthy...in time of course." She passed a sideways glance to the dappled lioness that lasted only seconds before looking back to Simosihle. "I'm for it, if you are."
While the two chattered on, Imbali sat on the ground, watching the vulture that accompanied her took to the ground. "I'm Imbali, and this is Isildo, by the way. She normally just cleans up after my meals, but she's useful too. Young still, but if she doesn't have the keenest eye I've ever seen. If there's food for her, by the stars she'll find whatever it is will fill her belly." And mine too, but that part was kept to herself. Maybe if she wasn't such a stranger, they wouldn't look at her nearly as much.
