In the seconds it took for Shiloh to open his mouth in reply, he had been grabbed. He wasn't sure how it happened, or how it happened so quickly when his eyes had been on the mass the entire time, but suddenly his feet were out from under him and his stomach was sliding across the grassy lawn. His phone fell from his hand when he had connected with the ground.

"Oh <******** NO," He trashed wildly to no real avail, fingers grappling for any sort of traction. The vines in his hand reacted immediately; they attached themselves to the ground with an intense vigor, pulling and tearing and keeping him momentarily in place. He bit back a sound at what he could only guess was a soon to be dislocated shoulder.

"LET GO." He twisted around awkwardly onto his back, the heel of his free foot slamming down repeatedly on the blackened mass. Slam. Slam. Sla—

His expression blanked for a moment. He was young—maybe ten or eleven—and his brother was there, and the sun was out and his Dad was at work and it was all terribly unreal, and yet he found himself placated and comforted in the fog of it all. The door opened, his mother was calling them inside—

Suddenly the vines snapped as All-Seeing won out, his body being dragged off again while his plants frantically tried to root themselves once more.

Another eye had gone dull. Two of them, actually. Shun wasn't quite certain what was triggering that.

There was an explosion off to the side. And he could see vines sprouting from Shiloh out of the corner of his peripherals.

He waited for the one kid to scramble away, then continued to move. His gaze met contact with another of All seeing's large eyes.

He saw himself playing guitar alone in his room. The lights were dim, and the music was soft with a hint of melancholy.

It was distracting. He shook his head to get his vision back. Once more, the first thing he could see the moment everything came back into view, were several of the tendrils whipping out towards him. The detective was able to avoid one. Even two. The third, however managed to wrap around his ankle, slamming him down to the pavement.

Grunting, he reached and slashed at the tentacle thing to try and get it to release him.

Jeremiah appeared in a secluded section of the market, making use of his ability to teleport and the screaming made things rather obvious. It was a near immediate flashback to Blackfriars and he was on immediate high alert. He had a hand on Preacher, having brought her with instead of leaving her behind and let go.

It wasn't hard to miss what was going on, the Chief of Police immediately directing people away. Before he joined in, Jeremiah was speaking to dispatch, giving them a brief rundown of injured and terrified civilians.

"Preacher, there's a kid over there ..." a hand was over the speaker, his head tilting towards a scared fourteen year old under a table. "Get them out of here? Then see what else can be done." Because it was better she was here now, than him worrying about her just showing up. Nevermind that she was a moonwalker and he expected she could handle herself. Jeremiah wouldn't expect any less from his admin.

There might have been a mental bloody ******** hell because of the size of the thing once he really looked at it.

"Kuroda!" he called out once he was done with dispatch and Preacher, letting the younger detective know he was present. "Anything of note?!" Weaknesses, beside the obvious eyes that were practically targets. Jeremiah was in the process of trying to direct a couple of civilians out of the area when he caught sight of Shiloh going down and fighting against a tentacle that had grabbed him.

Jeremiah moved forward in a flash, grabbing at the tentacle that had Shiloh (with someone else he only vaguely recognized) and calling forth the coldfire he could summon. It flared to life at the same time he was hit with a memory unexpectedly. His father, telling him that either he stopped associating with Algie or he would find himself in a situation he would not be able to get out of. The feeling of abject terror that he would have to make a choice-

While it made his older self angry once he pushed passed the fear, the coldfire burning brighter, it was only that niggling sense of impending danger that pulled him from it. Jeremiah couldn't dodge it, instead taking it to the back with a hiss of breath. At his collar, a peek of ice appeared along skin. "Let him go," he growled.

what what??
are you okay???

Jamie was already on his way to the farmer's market, but with each passing second and no reply, he felt his stomach ball-mode harder. Who the ******** sent 'btw monster' and 'ilu' in the same text like some sort of goodbye. a*****e.

Quote:

you better not die before i get there

Which, technically, he hadn't died yet, but among the chaos of the market he sure did see Shiloh on the ground. He sure did see that ********, those eyes—with a tentacle wrapped around his boyfriend's ankle, dragging him closer. About the only solace was in those trying to help him. Not that Jamie had a whole lot of time to thank them.

Hang on! would be the quick instant-instant message Shiloh would receive, though Jamie never bothered to open his mouth beyond an initial shout. In his mind he saw a world without Shiloh, crippling and terrible in his gut, as he went after the very same tentacle the others were.

He had to help Shiloh, he had to help the others help Shiloh. There were no other options. As he kicked at the creature, his foot morphed, expanding beyond its natural human size into something stronger and strangely fuzzy. Jamie had no idea he'd be able to shift in regular old Ashdown now that magic ran freer, but in the heat of the moment it made no difference to him.

Alexis, for once, wasn't actually looking for trouble -- but as they'd found, trouble had a unique way of finding them. They were only peoplewatching, trying to focus on a book (there was plenty of violence in it, so that was a plus); but - there were screams. And there was blood. Even from around the corner, or a corner or two, they heard and they knew and --

("I am a Noble of the Court of the Sorrowful One," they whisper, real quiet-like, "and I will protect my people.")

All of their talk wasn't going to amount to anything if they didn't actually take an action.

There was a water fountain -- ********, they were going to get in trouble for this, but people were hurting and people were bleeding and nobody was doing enough - Alexis swallowed. Pulled just enough water out of the faucet normally to whip it around and send it harshly back - the metal buckled under it, and they pulled and pulled - it would do, their concentration was a little shaky and it was only about the size of a basketball, but it would do until they could try harder - anything more would be too dangerous here. Too many people. Too much chance for someone to get hurt.

They tossed it at All-Seeing with all the vitriol they could muster, the force of a car wreck behind it, their muscles straining, and - and - and -
(...my little girl, she whispers, my little, little girl, and Alexis wants to vomit and their throat is tight and they can't breathe -)

Their hands shake. They have their mother's hands.

Alexis not only has an AURA OF DANGER they exude that makes people uncomfortable, they're a Noble with strong hydrokinesis and they basically have razor sharp shark teeth. In case they end up biting All-Seeing I guess?? ... + they can always find a sharp object for use as a weapon. Their powers are very good at fight.

Shiloh was dragged in slow motion. Everything in fact seemed sluggish at first. And then the next thing he knew, Dawson was rushing forward, hands growing with barely a thought, taking the strikes from the eye creature as he grabbed as many of the tendrils around Shiloh as he could and pulled. There went any time to stare as another man came to help.

All-Seeing, as it turned out, did not like Habanero.

Shun was attacked from two sides; he couldn't possibly defend both. One of the tentacles wrapped itself around his waist and began to lift him slowly off the ground. A cluster of eyes stared up at him, as though examining.

< Tiny creature. > The voice was entirely telepathic, but seemed to fill the small square all the same. Water splashed against his form, but dissolved into the shadowy, wriggly mass.

The tentacle that grasped Shiloh was singed in half, and the boy was freed. He had tiny circular marks almost like octopi suction cups along his leg in reddish rings that would eventually heal with time.

Jeremiah can lower his damage taken each turn to 3 as well. coldfire can add a +2 to his attacks whenever he uses it. (IE, 1d6+2)

If Alexis uses their aura, All-Seeing will turn it back on them, making Alexis uncomfortable. If he uses his noble form (the teeth etc etc), he can add +2 damage to his attacks (IE 1d6+2). Water seems to have no effect on All-Seeing.

Shun found himself being snatched up and lifted above the ground. He could hear Mercer calling out to him.

"Aim for the eyes! They make you see visions!" he called back while he began to struggle against the grasp of All Seeing. When it didn't seem like he'd wriggle free, he took his habanero coated blade and hurled it straight for one of its big eyes.

He didn't get to see it connect.

Instead, his vision flashed elsewhere once more. It was odd though. This time around there was a lot of static. Like the image was imperfect. Poor reception. A damaged memory. The audio was all garbled up too. No clear words came through. Just incoherent murmurings.

Was that a woman?

Once it was clear Shiloh was loose, watching the tentacle burn in his grasp and break in half, and Jamie was there too helping, he called out to the young moonwalker. "Help Shiloh up! You two play it safe!" Not that he was saying they couldn't attack or help out, he just wanted them to be okay.

"On it!" he called back out to Shun, realizing the man was now caught himself. Jeremiah let out a breath and shook his head a moment when he heard the voice. This time he was coalescing some coldfire in both hands, exerting some of that magical control he had gotten through his stay in the void. One was tossed at an eye, another at one of the tentacles holding Shun.

Not that All-Seeing took kindly to it, or was even unaware, because Jeremiah barely stepped back a second too late for a tentacle to hit him square in the chest. It stung, making him briefly drop to a knee. What kept him there longer was the vision that suddenly plagued him.

His hands were pressed to a chest, blood spilling out from underneath him. Magic was heavy in the air and someone was speaking. You failed, you always fail, you're nothing-

Alexis' hands are shaking - the water's done nothing. They've done nothing, and the spectre of their mother's hands feels more real than the half a second they saw it for, heard it for --<******** it, they think with a wild laugh, and summon what water they can back to them as a height boost - footstools - this is going to be gross, it's absolutely going to be gross, but at this point Alexis has long lost since track of reasonable things to do that weren't magic. (It feels like something's metaphorically crawling under their skin, but that's alright -- they're not there right now at all, really, they'll be back in a few minutes) - and grab around, there's a sharpened tent pole (another convenience of the magic, sharp enough to pierce, to stab) that's been broke off in the panic.

The pole they use almost as a vault, their slight form pushing off for extra height, and - they'll be able to catch themself if they fall. Alexis went straight for one of the eyes staring at Shun, the water shielding their movements (and ********, this was so gross, this was so ******** gross) - opened their mouth, took a breath, stabbed downwards with the pole - missed, their hands shook too badly - and just ******** went for it, teeth directly into the eye.

(At the very least, they'd never tasted monster eye before.)

(It stared up at them, and they saw -- they saw -- blood on their hands. Zac's braid. Autumn's horns, Nasir's glasses, broken on the ground, the ocean so great and terrible around them; and their throat so filled with rich rich iron red --)

Chester had come out to buy some cucumbers, and he was honestly feeling so attacked right now.

After some initial confusion, screaming, and fleeing around him, he had kind of deduced that the black mass over there wasn't a low flying cloud or a figment of his imagination, and in this brand new world people were just attacking it with magic. Well, some of them were. And why not? It was magic. Dispatching it with magic seemed logical.

Too bad he didn't have anything useful in that department.

Had he been in the other Ashdown, he might have done some damage from afar, but here he could only run up and punch the thing, and when he touched it pushed into the mud laughing at him not with him dad frowning another team another team another team. Chester pulled back, the same expression on his face that had been on his father's. Unpleasant, but nothing he couldn't work through.

"Does anyone need help?"

He might have been on the side of All-Seeing that lacked any tentacle drama at the moment.

Temperance appeared, late and without Starbucks. She did, however, bring a plethora of gauges and chlorhexidine wipes, steri strips, whatever she could get her hands on. Which was, actually, a surprising amount. She made a few calls as well because, magic or not, they were going to need more medical personnel.

However, she stumbled upon the scene and made a beeline for Jack's familiar head. There were some hurt civs around, but most were mobile - she'd set up a triage later. Temperance dropped to her knees next to Chel and immediately started checking for a pulse. "Jack! You mentioned eyes - did it take hers? What's going on?"

The pain in his shoulder subsided blissfully, but only because a swath of people had rushed in to help. He didn't realize it in the moment, but suddenly he was aware of Jeremiah and the blistering cold that exuded from him and Dawson was there and—

Jamie was there too, slamming his foot down on the tentacle as it disintegrated from the wicked cold fire.

"Holy ********," He stared at all of them wide eyed, actually feeling sort of... touched? Maybe that was the wrong word, but feeling cared for... "Lucky timing." He sounded a little dazed. His shoulder was agonizing, but he could move his fingers still. At least it wasn't dislocated, but it was definitely going to be sore.

"Got my text I guess Jame?" He looked a little sheepish and very apologetic, "You got my back right?" Using Jamie for balance, he moved slowly to his feet as Jeremiah rushed into the fray again. "And Da— w-whoa, are you alright?" It dawned on him that Dawson had gotten hurt looking out for him. Running back in recklessly could wait a second. Didn't stop him from grabbing Jamie's wrist though (or rather, he never let go after helping himself up). Protective as ever.

"You got it, boss!" Preacher ducked under the table and stared at the scared kid. Damn kid was taller than her, damn it. After a few failed attempts, she finally got the idiot to listen to her and they both made a break for it when the weird creature was too occupied hitting someone else. Luckily, they were hurt and Preacher sternly told the boy to get his ********' a** home and not go outside. And then she whirled around and came right back. If everyone else was fighting, she was going to try and ******** it up too.

Preacher slammed against the tentacle monster, hands reaching up to wrench at one of the tentacles. Maybe, if she tried hard enough, she could twist it off. Gritting her teeth she pulled, and the creature tossed her backwards with a dull thud.

Thud.

He walked by again and, even as young as she was, she knew to hold herself still, to make the least amount of noise, take up the least amount of space. It wasn't good enough.
Thud. She saw stars this time.

"Aw, thank God," Dawson breathed once Shiloh was pried away. The red marks looked nasty but not skin puncturing at least. The question took a moment to hit him, and he blinked. "Yeah, I'm good." He glanced at his enlarged hands and gave a small sigh. At least they were good for something. "Yer kinda the one we're worried about here. Arm okay?"

He turned to the new kid with the rabbit's foot and thought, How far does this go? But he offered a wan smile nonetheless; optimism seemed the best weapon he could wield these days, even if his reluctance to it all was growing heavier. "Uh, nice t'meetcha, James," he greeted, mishearing Shiloh. "Dawson here. I can only keep this thing off one a'y'all, though. So...uh..." Decision time?

- - -

"No," Jack told her, blood staunching his coat now as he tried to keep it pressed to the tattoo. "It just appeared from this." He lifted his coat to show it and the healed marks of Chel's attempt to cut it out around it. Some of the goopish tendrils were seeping from the blood still; they were connected, her and All-Seeing.

"All I know is that its name is All-Seeing and it granted her a power with her eyes. Now it's come to collect for the boon." He growled a sigh again. "I can't stop the bleeding. Any ideas?"
