[PRP] secondary education (alg & gloom)

"Of course.." Alg looked to Gloom's white eyes and nodded with a smile of understanding. Nothing could truly be trusted. He could feel the excitement though, hear it and feel it, which was interesting. It made him smile and straighten.

The shadows urging his legs were appeased and the professor moved off a bit faster towards the flickering glow to see what the game was, or what they wanted to show him.

The light, it turned out, was a dark light in the distance. Apparently the shadows were making it and this was a game of tag or chase.

Or something.

Gloom was giggling, in the way that he could, and oozed his way down off of the professor to run in front of him and try to pounce onto the light himself.

Alg laughed a little with Gloom as he watched the shadow marten romp off to play. He picked up the pace himself, a lightly jog turning to a small hop which took him into a floating hover towards the the light ahead.

He tried to stay aware of his surroundings as best he could, tried to keep track of where they were moving and how, but participating in the game was more fun and using his own powers much more freely on this side made it even better.

Gloom's running and Alg's hovering chase became a bit of a race to get to the light first.

Once close enough, the light seemed to swirl in a circle before it darted off again. There was a feeling of giggles, of the living shadows laughing, as both Gloom and Algernon chased it.

"Y'gonna have to be sneaky to get it," Gloom chittered, though he sounded as if this was a great time. The environment, at least, seemed to be mostly familiar and still within somewhere Algernon knew.

"Sneaking isn't my strong point.." Alg chuckled. Besides it was hard to hide from shadows when you were... inside of them.

He wondered how easy it would be to step out.. and then step back in again. The professor glanced around at the surroundings to see if it may be possible.

It looked to be an alleyway, perhaps, or something at least that was familiar. Algernon may, if he wanted to, just be able to step out and then back in.

He just had to find the right spot.

It was worth a try. Alg floated until he saw a safe place and after a tentative reach of his hand outwards he decided to try and make the transition. The professor seemed to meld out from the shadows into the alleyway he saw.

There was a moment of brief triumph, Alg actually making a 'Ha!' of success when he realized it worked. Behind him he could still feel and sense the shadows, and further he felt like he could feel them deeper than before..

They were deeper than before. At least to him. The shadows seemed to deepen, beckon to him to come closer and step right back in.

Were he to really look around, he might have realized that with all the light and noise he was in Ashdown and not other ashdown anymore.

He could tell immediately once his surroundings sunk in, though he felt like he could see more, the shadows at least. Not only had he traveled through them, but he'd passed over to the 'home' side. He was also much more aware of where the shadows lurked on this side.

Alg was pleasantly surprised.

But of course the game was afoot and the revelation that he could travel with the shadows, here and there and back, was invigorating. And so when the shadows near him beckoned him back, he passed back into them again.

When he stepped through again the glow of the dark light was just right there. All he had to do was reach out and take it.

And he did so. Alg's hand shot out to grasp the light quickly before it relocated, "Ha!"

Only then did he look back around at the shadowy realm and look for Gloom.

Gloom was rolling, once again, right into Algie's shoes with a squeak. "Y'sneaked!" he exclaimed.

The shadows around them seemed to revel in this themselves, the excitement palpable. In Algie's hand the dark light flickered and continued to glow before it condensed into a small purple stone, not unlike an amethyst.

Alg laughed with a small huff, "I suppose I did.." And now he wanted to practice it more. It was a bit invigorating discovering something so practically useful. Of course somewhere his cautious mind was telling him not to meddle so much, that the shadows were alive and tricky and dangerous, but for the moment it was just a bit too exciting and fun to ignore.

He turned the stone over in his fingers once it formed, held it up to examine it and then looked to Gloom as if for explanation.

The shadows were happy with Algie or so it seemed. Though once the game was over they went back to their own devices, even if sometimes there was a tug to the professor's trouser leg.

A reminder they were there.

He had, at least, satisfied their desire to play.

Gloom was back up on his shoulders in a wisp of moving shadows, leaning out towards the stone with a sniff. "Not magic," he said, "but could hold magic." His paw thumped against it and the dark light came to life once again, though a much duller color than before.

"Hmm.." It was pretty too, which was nice. "Well thank you.." He glanced at Gloom and then up and around him at all of the shadows, cleared his voice a bit and repeated himself, "Thank you!"

Alg then glanced to Gloom and reached to scritch him, "Shall we go back?"
