[The Semblance of Unity]

Preacher frowned. There weren't any weird noises anymore, but there wasn't much of anything. She stood up. "'Lexis?" Slowly, she began to inch the door open. It did come open, though there was something blocking it partially. Something which turned out to be Alexis, sleeping soundly on the floor.

She knelt down and patted their shoulder. "Alexis?"

Alexis sniffled and pulled away from her hand, a little, still mostly asleep. They hadn't looked like they'd slept well in weeks (or maybe not at all for the past few days) -- maybe that had been the point of exhaustion where they couldn't stay awake anymore. Maybe it was a good thing.

Maybe not.

Maybe if she tried to guide them along, they'd be awake enough.

(They looked terribly small and vulnerable, curled in on themself, hair curtaining their face from the open air.)

"Oi, c'mon, 'Lexis," she muttered. She brushed the hair away from their face. "At least sleep on a bed." Preacher grabbed their arm and began to try and get Alexis to their feet. Their bedroom was up some ********' stairs or something, but there was a living room with a couch. That would have to do.

"Don't sleep in front o' tha door, idiot. Up ya go." She couldn't even be mad at them anymore.

Alexis groaned vaguely, still 90% asleep, but clutched onto her arm like a lifeline and half-made their way to their feet -- eyes still closed, hair disobediently falling back in their face as soon as Preacher's hand moved away. They weren't really sure who she was or what was happening, as tired as they were, as exhausted as they were: just. Tired. And vaguely cold.

Alexis wasn't really waking up, so the couch it was. Preacher half-dragged them over, flopping them onto it. She wondered when the last time they'd even slept was and they were so, so damn ******** cold. What the hell. Frowning, she dragged some kind of throw over them. Then she cursed.

"Shove over." Preacher wiggled up next to Alexis on the couch. It was an incredibly tight and somewhat uncomfortable fit, but they were both relatively small. It worked. Luckily for Alexis, too, was that she was like a small furnace and knew it. She pulled out her phone and yawned. Time to do some crosswords or s**t.

Their walk was halting, half-dragging; without Preacher they would have gone back to sleep immediately, for the floor wasn't uncomfortable, just cold.

Alexis practically magnetized to Preacher when they were both on the couch, though; curling around her, attracted to her warmth, to the fact she was another body and they weren't alone. It hardly took them any time to sink back into full slumber.

Preacher huffed irritably and gave up, sliding towards sleep herself. Her last waking thought was wondering exactly where that bag of curly fries had landed.
