Galious nodded but wasn't sure how to broach the subject of her appearance safely so he just let it lie but at least commented on her learning a weapon. "Nothing wrong with that. One should always be able to defend themselves." he nodded then indicated his own horns. "I was taught to fight with my horns and hooves from a young age. Mostly as a precaution as I don't believe my mother ever thought I was going to need those skills as much as I've used them in the last few years."
He nodded again. "I assure you I have been on my best behavior as I do not want to cause offense or trouble for our two herds. I know that violence when used appropriately can be used in many situations when all else has failed. Your patriarch and his family are the first of their kind I have seen since the attack and I suppose the events left more of a scar on me than just the physical ones." he sighed. "I assure you I keep telling myself that they are not the same and if so many find shelter and comfort here that they are cut from a different cloth so to speak."
"That is a very noble pursuit." he said. "Although I do not believe I would enjoy watching any animal be eaten." he added.
He was glad for the subject change. "Fun?" he mused for a moment. "I enjoy walks among the fruit groves and flower meadows. I learn new bird calls and learn to mimic them. Dance and I dabble from time to time with singing. Spending time with my lady of course." that he thought about covered it.

"Your mother sounds wise." Selda nodded sagely. "As long as we are aware of our biases, we can work to overcome them, Galious. They understand the fear, its the hate and ostracism that upsets them. The very fact that you and your herd are here to share in this celebration is evidence that you intend to judge them on their actions rather than the actions of the Kalona that attacked you, fear not they will despise you for it. "
The small mare considered that, she'd never been called noble before, even if it was just by affiliation. "I suppose it is, isn't it? I know thats what drew me in. There's just something about it here that I can't quite put a hoof on. Was it like that for you when you decided to join your herd?"
Her face broke into a smile, "I suppose those things do sound fun now that you mention it. I've danced before, but I was always by myself. I don't think I've tried singing yet. You mention your lady, is that your mate?"

Devereau wearily trudged up the various ramps and staircases that lead up to the highest terrace, where he knew Vincento, and likely most of the rest of the family would be. He had overslept. Inconvenient, but not unexpected after his journey to the herdlands from the garden where he now dwelled with Prim. Normally it wouldn't have been such a trial, but he had had a lot to carry. In fact, all of the flowers currently on display had been cultivated by Dev especially for this celebration. The return was surreal, he had grown up here with the rest of the herd and every stone and patch of earth was familiar to him. But since his lifemating, he had decided to settle outside of the herd so that Prim could continue her responsibilities as the Garden Keeper of the Boneblossom herd. Caught up in the honeymoon sweetness of his new romance, he had been so wrapped up in his lovely Primrose that much more time had passed since his last visit home than he'd intended. A small surge of guilt pricked his conscious, but he knew his mother would understand the reason for his absence.
In the past, Devereau had always enjoyed the autumn equinox, but the presence of so many outsiders had him on edge. His deep violet eyes flicked back and forth between unfamiliar faces, his heart hammering as adrenaline flushed through his slender body. His expression was blank and stony, a mask that revealed none of the turmoil within. Having once been attacked by outsiders simply because of who he was descended from, Dev harbored a deep distrust of outsiders that was hard to shake. Vidia always joked that it was a miracle he had managed to find love outside of the herd considering how he always clammed up around strangers. But Prim was different, he had sensed it the moment his eyes had met hers, she understood him, their relationship had been as natural and effortless as breathing.
He reached the center of the celebration and smiled as he recognized his mother. He cast a warm smile in her direction but didn't approach, she was chatting with Lockes and Cosette he wouldn't interrupt her. Every where he looked were famiiar faces intermingled with the strangers and he found himself starting to relax a bit. Vincent was on the dias, knowing his grandfather, some of it was certainly for appearances sake, but he also knew the stallion was watching over the crowd. He would swiftly and completely end any threat. Dev breathed out a sigh of relief. He knew how to protect himself, but he'd always been a reluctant student in the martial arts, even after the attack. He didn't like the exertion or the thought of slicing into another person. Instead he had apprenticed with their resident... herb woman? He was never sure what her precise title was, but Vervada had been with the herd since before his birth. She had been happy to teach him the delicate art of crafting poisons. Devereau may not be able to best someone in a straight fight, but he didn't need strength once he had mastered what Vervada had to teach him. Written as a solo, but he can be approached if anyone wants

Vervada gritted her teeth against the raucous. The steady hum of voices, the throb of the drums. The spiderwebs slung over every surface of her small cavern were vibrating with the noise as well. The mare would have gladly poisoned the lot of the revelers and scattered their remains as food for her eight legged companions but she had to remind herself that this was her herd. A few of the noisy soquili she would even count among her friends, and her children of course. She knew Arobynn was on guard duty, the rediculous stallion had been preening about guarding the Advisor all night. Vervada harrumphed, she cared for her offspring in a way, but it was not in her nature to care for her son and daughter after they were grown. Indeed, she had promptly ordered them out of her cave as soon as they were old enough to look after themselves, after a fashion anyways. They could come visit, of course, and she would look after their well fare in her own way, but she was not the mothering type. It had been that way with her own dam as well, Vervada had no idea where her birth family was. Nor did she particularly care, The spiders were all the company she needed on a regular basis. She rather enjoyed Vidia and Devereau's companionship, but it was mostly because they let her boss them around and were so intent on learning as much as possible that they hung on her every word as though each syllable was coated in gold.
Herd life suited her for the most part. Somehow she had found herself with a dual membership despite spending most of her early life on her own. Her oldest and most sacred bond to the Dark Brotherhood was known to very few trusted souls. Her membership to the Sinclair herd had originally been a bit of a cover, but she found she enjoyed herself here, noisome as it was. She was needed, and while that was certainly nice, it also gave her a taste of power that Vervada found she rather enjoyed. And while carrying Kaiser's foals it had been nice to not have to worry overmuch about her security. She thought about the sire of her foals, she had known Kaiser wouldn't be safe around her while pregnant, as her stomach expanded, so did her bloodlust, until she would have happily attacked the stallion and taken him apart piece by piece. It was nothing personal. The others in the herd had known instinctively somehow to let her be until she was delivered, and now she was back to her normal self. She found the separation from the stallion pained her some still. It had been necessary, but she found herself missing his brutal spirit at times.
A particularly loud surge of noise made Vervada's eyes flash in rage. She would pass the night brewing poisons, thoughts of death would calm her frenzy. This is a Solo Quote: Just to let everyone know, I'm planning on only keeping this ORP open through September. Might do another for Halloween, we'll see how things go!

Auryn shivered in the chill air, not quite used to its' bite. He had thought he was used to how quickly the cold weather came on in the mountains, but the Sinclair family abided much closer to the peak than he was used to. He tended to stay in their valley home most of the time, occasionally traveling up to visit Ignis and the other Angeni within the herd, who seemed to always want something to perch on top of. The stallion wondered what it would be like to be able to fly, he thought it was a good thing he didn't have wings. He managed to get lost enough just on his own two feet, being able to cover more distance in such a short amount of time would be disastrous.
Speaking of lost, Auryn swung his head around, he didn't recognize many faces in this part of the crowd. There were soquili of all types and all walks of life mingling before the bonfires. It was rather magnificent really. Auryn yearned to explore and learn more about the world and those inhabiting it, but he was held back by his own shortcomings. He was more of a burden than a help for those responsible for his herd's outreach when he couldn't be trusted to wander out of sight of camp. His one solace was that his father was much the same, chronically lost. Even now, he couldn't point out the direction he'd need to take to get back home. In fact he wasn't sure what direction he had just walked from or how to get pretty much anywhere in what felt like one giant maze. He was unable to hold on to fixed points of reference, the slipped into his mind and back out again as quickly as they had entered, leaving no imprint on his memory for him to draw upon.
Auryn took deep steadying breaths, trying not to panic, but a cold sweat was breaking out along his body. He hated being lost. It always felt as though this time would be the last time, that no one would ever find him again. He was torn between the desire to keep moving and trying to find his way back or standing still so that he would be easier to find. The predators in the crowd sensed his fear almost immediately, tilting their noses to the air they inhaled his panic and began searching the crowd for the source. He couldn't stay put unless he could calm himself. His mother had assured him that they were here under truce, and he wasn't trying to be rude to their hosts, but more than their hosts were present and he couldn't say what the other guests might do to him.
Gathering himself, Auryn picked a bonfire and just started walking, desperately trying to calm himself as he went and praying to any gods listening that he would find his mother, or anyone from his herd, really. He sped up slightly.
In the complete wrong direction. Open to Interaction or Solo

The Festival is over <3
We decided to do month long ORPs for now, just to see how it impacts the flow of things, and to not make it so much about getting a ton of posts/stats over time as about just having a chance to flex your muse a bit and have some fun in a new setting. I know Group RPs can be hard to coordinate so I thought keeping it short and not making it interaction-dependent might keep things flowing a bit better.
Thanks everyone who participated, this ended up being really fun! I hope to do another one for Halloween! Feel free to continue any plot points outside of the ORP thread, and feel free to plot out whatever happened to your characters at the festival. ICly, all sorts of soquili were there! If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or anything, just reach out and let me know via pm or in the herd's plot hub.
Eventually I'd like to drive the plot around a little more too, maybe roll some random events with the dice to keep things spicy xD. I might try that this month!
Thanks again!
