As Grensk snapped at him Nsk snorted and slammed the other male with his shoulder, taking some scrapes in the process but nothing that would hinder him in his pursuit.

Up ahead was a gorge, and Mezask was not slowing! As the matriarch leaped Nsk bellowed his approval and powered towards the edge with renewed effort, if he was going to clear it he needed to get up more speed!

This run had turned into a frenzy of snarls and claws, many of them seeming to forget the prize ahead of them as they turned on each other. Where Mazask ran a trail of ichor followed and one or more whers may end up dead by the end. Some of the males balked at the gorge, no confident to jump after the matriarch. Weaklings

Landing on the other side, nearly barging straight into Grensk. Galloping forwards to not fall further behind claws flashed to rake the other bronze's side. Being near the browns irritated him, being within reach of a fellow bronze enraged him.

Defending against Bursk

Grensk's Stats

Having only just snapped at a brown, Grensk was foolish in not anticipating an attack from somewhere else. The combination of that and only just getting his momentum back put the bronze thoroughly on the back claw. He gave a bark of alarm when Bursk almost collided into him. Turning into a snarl when claws swung at him. There wasn't enough time to move, so he would just have to take the hit.

His snarl turn to a shriek of pain as the claws dug deeper than he anticipated. His legs went out from underneath him and Grensk slammed into a ground with a crash. Turning his head he looked at the deep furrows in his side, green ichor flowing freely. He hissed at other whers as they ran past him. The group ran past him as he tried to stand on shaking legs. Twice he thudded back to the stone. The last of the male disappeared from sight and he gave a sad whine, defeated. Even as he felt his handler reach out that they were coming. They would look after him.

Herosk didn't flinch when the gorge came up, at least not outwardly. he wasn't the most graceful, not was he the kind of wher that was good at leaping due to his weight but never let it be said that Herosk was a wuitter, he grunted and sped up, charging towards the edge, powerful haunches shooting him into the air as he reached for the other side.

Plenty had fallen behind. The pack was thinning from her dare. Some had gotten around the gorge by climbing it. It was a reasonable tactic, but not really what she had in mind. Her next trial would need to be something that they couldn't get around then it seemed. Mezask had the perfect plan.

Angling further up the mountain she climbed up onto a ledge. From below it would look like she disappeared, as she didn't seem to climb above or go in either direction. However, her echoing call didn't sound right for her to still be on the ledge. The first males to climb up may be surprised to find a cave entrance. The green's beckoning barks coming from within the darkness.

Being deprived of the light from the stars and the moon was of no concern to a wher, but this cave posed other challenges. Mezask knew these tunnels well. They twisted and turned like a maze. The males would have to use their smell to find her. That in itself wasn't a challenge for a wher. Any male that lost her trail was clearly not even average for a wher, so the loss of them wouldn't bother her at all.

They would need to focus on maintaining speed while not crashing into walls. Mezask was a big green, and the cave was big enough for her. Some of the bigger males might find themselves stooping from time to time, while the smaller ones would likely struggle when the tunnels forced the following to narrow. Somehow Mezask doubted that her suitors would like being so intensely pushed together, but only the ones that managed to find there way out into the night air with her again would be of any concern to her.

What was this now? The Matriarch was gone and her voice was- Ah-ha, a cave!

Although his path through the gorge rather than over it had cost him time CrackFang wasn't yet far enough behind to be disheartened, and as he plunged into darkness after the powerful green he replied to her calls and barks with a bugle of his own - he was coming! Her scent was heady, pulling him onward through the unfamiliar twists and turns and filling him with elation.

Nsk was not made for narrow places, not at all, and as he was pressed against the other males in the darkness he was forced to slow. The brow snarled his frustration and tried to shove ahead of his rivals with brute force, letting them know with a flash of a thought that if they got in his way they would taste his fangs and talons.

Bursk hadn't looked back after his successful attack, only knowing that his wounded victem had fallen far, far, behind. Not being a very fast wher it was maybe fortunate that he was not tracking her primarily by sight, not when he needed his eyes on the other males. Charging into the caves was not the problem, any true wher should feel comfortable underground. The problem was how big he was, and how many whers were trying to squeeze into tunnels that pinched so tight barely one could get through at a time.

A flash of a challenge glared from one of the browns could not un unanswered, throwing his whole body against Nsk to ram him into the cave wall.

A flash of movement caught Nsk's eye and as Bursk tried to shove him against the wall he roared defiance and slammed his own shoulder against the bronze's in response, managing to keep his footing and pace in the process.

With his course corrected Nsk snarled at Bursk and lashed out at the other male's face with talons fully extended; if the bronze wanted a fight then he had found one!

Bronze and brown collided, their strength well matched. Bursk had failed in his barge but had now brought himself in range for attack. Feeling Nsk's shoulders tense and extend, Bursk shoved him again this time away. They had wasted enough time, but this wasn't over

Scarback's Stats

He wasn't the only one that didn't try clearing the gorge. It may have slowed him, but Scarback was certain it was the best option. Some males thought that winning a run was worth dying for, but Scarback certainly did not. A wher didn't live very long out in the wilds if you kept throwing yourself into dangerous situations.

The chase led them into a cave and Scarback was quite pleased. He was familiar with caves. Most whers were, but he spent a lot of time in caves. His home was a mountain and his daily resting place was a cave, so maybe he was more familiar than most. Probably more so than these giant brutes that looked so crushed inside this cave system.

Scarback round 3: 7

Scimsk's Stats

He was late! He was super, super, late! Scimsk bolted along the path of ichor and the heavy trail of whers. He passed by whers that had fallen out of the race. Some exhausted, many injured. The injuries frightened him. He was a small blue, and not particularly drawn to fighting. Once he had needed to chase a wher away from his cows and that one had been a scrawny thing. These were male whers in their prime, and almost all of them were bigger than him.

Still the blue was driven on. He couldn't let Mezask run without him. Scimi had let him have this time to try, it would be unfair if he didn't at least try. Still he didn't want to fight. As he reached the cave he moved nimbly through the tunnels, finally managing to reach the tail end of the pack. Clearly not having to fight his way here was an advantage, but he was already panting as he reached them.

Viosk's Stats

His attempts to bite hadn't done anything to Herosk physically, but that hadn't really been the intention. Seeing the brown hop about to avoid him had been funny enough to satisfy Viosk. He was almost a little disappointed when Herosk decided to start ignoring him. Well, almost. The brown hadn't managed to land a single hit on him even though he had tried so hard. Clearly he was too slow to land a hit on Viosk.

The cave certainly suited the wiry brown better than out in the open. Weaving through the cave system was almost ideal for him. He kept his tactic of staying low to the ground. Best to stay away from mouths, in this tight space it might be harder for him to dart away from irritated males.
