Genins VS. Chuunins AND/OR some Jounins

Well becoming a Chuunin has a lot to do with thinking too so maybe Iruka was one of the brighter Genins like Shikamaru seeing as Shikamaru was the only one that passed that chuunin exam.. The others are strong, but he thinks more like a ninja I suppose and the same goes for Iruka..

Well, that is a good reason why. =)

Yeah, and as for why Iruka never made it to Jounin...Maybe he just never grrew enough skillwise and as far as I can tell possesses no particularly useful special abilities...It must take a high degree of intelligence and ability as a shinobi and he didn't cut it in both areas...

I think Renny means that rank doesn't matter in a fight, only skill. xD I mean, Naruto is still a genin and he can use techniques that most jounin still can't do. Ie. Kage Bunshin and Rasengan.
And, have we actually seen Iruka fight in the manga? So who are we to judge his skills?
