I guess that when I started listening to "goth" music I was doing it for attention, and I was also hanging out with different people, in which I don't even hang out with them anymore [ partially because they either moved or graduated. ].

But now I do it because it's comfortable, and I just dress however I feel like dressing that day.
and plus, I just like lace, chains and especially corsets. Although I can't breathe in them normally :]
but you're not really supposed to anyway.

and also what the weather's going to be like, since I live in Southern California Dx

I remember my study hall teacher saying that to me once, and then just recently the psych my doctor had me going to asked me that and a number of other offensive questions. After a while you just have to stop listening to them and go with what you feel.

I hate hearing stuff like that, another thing I hate to hear is "it's just a phase she's going through" yeah sure... I dress like this because I like it, because I feel comfy with it (instead of dressing in a pink shirt saying pornstar), and I've been on my way to become/being goth since middle school... and I'm now 18... it's just a phase my a**!
That reminds me of when me and lover were walking through a department store when the lady behind the counter said to another person" Don't mind them they're going through a phase..." "They" of course reffering to us....it kinda made me angry....My style and sense of self is not a phase women! Goth is who I am and you'll deal with it!

I hate it when people cease to understand that goth is just like any other style.A little on the different side, but a style nonetheless. When they decide to wear mainstream clothing it's not a phase is it? NO, so why should they assume that what we do is a phase.

Oh yeah, because I got sooooo much less attention dressed like a whore. Sadly, I did go through a phase like that sweatdrop . However, that was also with the influence of my two older sisters back in 6th grade.

This'll sound kinda stereotypical punk rocker, but I say "F*** 'em." If they insist to get in a fight about it, than fine. That's them, not me. I'll protect myself if I have to.

The fact is, I just get up every morning, put on a pair of jeans, a top(usually a t-shirt), a plain leather belt, put my wallet in my pocket, connect the chains from my wallet to my belt, put on socks and shoes, quickly comb my hair, and I'm read to go. Nothing special with that. Except for the chains, it's exactly the same as everyone else. So, what sets me apart. Oh, that's right, the color. Even though I get my clothes at girly stores just like every other teenage girl. I listen to music. I respectfully date. I have friends. I laugh. I goof around. I'm not all that different. My point is that, basically, every person is very much the same.

How, exactly, is being just like everyone else make me an attention grabber? Wouldn't it make more sense that I am conforming?

I'm not really conforming to annything. I just don't feel a need to dress any certain way to go out anywhere, so I wear what is comfortable all the time. I wore jeans to a very formal wedding. Man, my dad got pissed at me. I'm kinda glad I don't live with him.

Ugg, I can't tell you how much that phrase irratates me. My mother insists on saying that every chance she gets. Just because i'm so young [-. 14 .-] she thinks I have no sense of originality and thinks that i'm just like every other kid my age and that this is just 'a phase' i'm going through when infact it isn't.
I know who I am and what I like though it varys alot seeing as how i have a wide variety of likes and dislikes and many of them are extremely random.

As Kitsune said before me...You know walking around looking like a whore keeps all eyes away from you.
I think it's just the fact that most people don't understand what the true meaning of poser is and they cling to the very false 'fact' that stereo-types are always true, that makes them claim you do it for attention.

YES! I try to avoid attention from others.. I wear black cause I'm trying to tell people "hey i'm not in the mood for your bs, ******** off... I'M DEPRESSED" But instead people keep on questioning me and I get commented like that. And then people start calling me Demon girl and devils daughter after I tell them I'm that i ware black cause i'm getting a head start on thier funeral... stare

i dress this way because well...i just like it! it does bother me when people ask me that. i mean, even though im very outgoing, i constantly feel dead to the world. i look & act different than the ''normies'' because it just makes me feel alive. its almost like a bitchslap in the face of society w/ me behind the hand saying ''******** you, im not dead yet!'' but i didnt start dressing the way i do for the attention. it just cane along & i learned to live w/ it. theres very few goths where i am, so im just an individual. i learned to embrace it. sure i have my moments where i want to hide inside another overseen preppy dress, but i remember, wouldnt that give people more of a reason to stare & discriminate? so im in it for the long run in combat boots & corsets & im not complaining a bit. 4laugh

No one has said that much to me. I would try to explain but there's no point. I just ignore them. I dress as I please.

I began to wear black at a very very young age,my mother use to let me wear her leather jackets to the mall and we would go to the food court then go to the shoe place and look for some combat boots....ah the good old days, hell my mother use to put black lipstick on me (which I hate now,it's just too messy ninja ) and I'be always loved black, when I was ten my mother began to buy my pink clothes,I hated them and would wear black dress for a week just to not to wear pink!!!!! now we have things settled and I wear whatever I like, sometimes borrowing her clothes,so I can careless what people say because I'm proud to wear what I want and to wear a leather jacket that was my grams......ah the sweetness of leather, how I love thee so.....but it does sort or annoy me when the guys as school make a bet to see who will go out with the 'goth girl' first. XD they can all choke on their blood as they lay dying in the locker room.

I don't consider myself Goth,I consider myself as me,that is the truth behind all truths.

Generally I wear a lot of black, I like boots, and even when I was three I wanted straight pitch-black hair, so now I dye it. But I'll also wear red, blue, purple, dark green and white. My style alternates between (and sometimes combines) slightly punker clothing and romantic clothing in my colors of choice.

I would probably dress similarly if there was not designation "goth," so I dress this way cuz I like to.
