Starburstnova rofl Tell me. How can a person be emotive hardcore music? I'd really like to know. I love my pop music, and know they're pop-rock. Go to the links Faye provided and educate yourself PLEASE. If you want to listen to some emo to compare it to Fall Out Boy, go HERE. A person can not be music. If anything, you're scene, not emo. They're not punk, either. Please compare to Fall Out Boy. Punk: http://download.yousendit.com/69B09543074D22A7Emo: http://download.yousendit.com/A7EB82880BCDFB3FPop-rock: http://download.yousendit.com/74A24A1C03904393Which sounds most like them? confused Emo lyrics are generally much more like poetry. Fall Out Boy is pop-rock. Fact. END OF STORY. I think I can recognize a band in my favorite genre. And seriously...you're the one who asked. If you already have your mind made up and aren't going to listen to the answer anyway, why did you ask? It's not an opinion question. ok ok ok whatever...don't hate me please... heart biggrin

We don't hate you. Or at least, I don't.
I'm just confused as to why you asked a question when you didn't seem to want to listen to the answer anyway. xp
Because it really isn't an opinion question. Sure, when it comes to genres, there are some fuzzy areas, but Fall Out Boy aren't even close. That's all.
I find it slightly annoying when people are ignorant when it comes to genres, but that doesn't mean I'll hate them for it or anything.

Yeah, I don't hate you either. It's what Starburstnova said: you asked a question but didn't want to know the answer. That's baffling.
I'm fairly genre illiterate, but I know enough to be able to distinguish the differences.

I used to be more genre illiterate, but I know more now. I don't know subgenres, and there are some things I'm just totally baffled by what they'd be.
Like...Cobra Starship? Not exactly sure.
I can usually guess the main genre, but subgenres other than pop? I'm pretty lost. I think pop is one of the easist genres to really "get" though. If it's catchy and got a great hook, FAIRLY simple, and overall just "poppy" (I can't explain it very well), then it's pop. But that can be fused with a rock sound to get pop-rock, or...whatever else. There's no real pop-metal, though. Amythe says power metal would be the closest to what could be considered pop-metal, and from what power metal I've heard...that's true, except power metal can seem pretty...epic? xd
When nobody ever seemed to be able to agree on what emo was, I decided to look into that specifically, though. Over time I understand it more and more, but I still don't quite get it. The descriptions given (on fourfa specifically) fit it, but...they're too vague. From those descriptions, I was just thinking "...How isn't From First To Last emo, then? confused " So it didn't totally help. But once I heard emo, I knew how to differentiate...but I'm not solid on determining whether something is emo. But generally most things aren't. I don't think emo will ever be on the radio. xp
Anyway, I'm rambling. Point being, I'm not great with genres, but I know the basics, and I can identify pop...metalcore...and...not emo. xd If something is obviously emo, I could probably identify it, but...I wouldn't be totally sure.

I mind it more when people call them scene.
But even so, they're not emo.

Well, they are scene. confused Scene isn't a genre, though.
They're not so scene anymore, though. Now they're mainstream. xp So tons of scene kids reject them now because they're popluar. sweatdrop
But they're friggin' pop-rock. o_x

Dear sweet jesus. After ALL that arguing there are still people attempting to compare them to Punk Rock and Emo. I absolutely hate Emo, mostly because it's just poetry with guitar and drums.(Not very well played, but there none the less) Fall Out Boy is Pop-Rock If I could make up a pointless genre, I'd call them Scorn-Rock. Because they seem to do alot of songs about that. But I'm pretty retarded when it comes to genres so MRAH to you.
