Did you read the newest release, The Children of Hurin? I got halfway through it but I'm having trouble picking it up again.

The Lay of Beleriand says of Angband:

"The wolf howls. The ravens flee.
The ice mutters in the mouths of the sea.
The captives sad in Angband mourn."

I read The Lay of Beleriand, (im not sure if i spelled that right) and i think the stories were also in Unfinished Tales

i have a copy; it seems to have been used to make a bigger book by another title, but i don't know which one.

it has Turin, Nienor, and Beren and Tinuviel in it.

Okay, that's cool, but I'm not quite sure where to add it. There are a lot of good Tolkien works we didn't mention.

we know that elves and humans can intermarry.

what about the dwarves?

i am especially interested because they were not created by the same godling as the other peoples, and maybe that would be an extra reason why they might not be compatible.

this has personal interest because i wrote a short story of a romance between Gimli and a (strong stout blaugh ) elf.

You write slash don't you?

Well I don't know because Tolkien never said anything on it. Yes you are right in a way. Dwarves were created by Aule the Smith Vala while Elves and Men were created by Eru Illuvater, the creator. Honestly I don't think it came up because as far as Tolkien was concerned in his writing no Elf/Man ever fell in love with a Dwarf in that manner.

But taking a guess I'd supposse it was possible.. it would be an interesting child. And I don't think the Valar or the other memebers of the races would be very pleased.

Due to the fact that the dwarfs are very patuculare about most things. Their own kind is far more favored compaired to the other races I would have to say that it is very unlikely. But i wouldnt put it past them.

well ok then, thanks.

Gimli was already a little different for his friendship with an elf in LOTR and i imagined him going on to be more of an individualist, and adventurer not identified with the dwarven mainstream.

my hope is that this would make the liaison a little more plausible.
