(temporary) star trek reboot (since gais's being weird)

[Near Xephis]

"MR SCOTT!"

The Commodore bowed. "It is an honour to meet you!"

Smiling Shern motioned Scottie to follow him "You'll find everything you need in this cargo bay. I took the liberty of duplicating the supplies you took aboard the enterprise. You have full access to my ship and her engineering crew. Time is short Mr Scott. Get my ship ready"

Although a serious one, Shern threw another smile at Scottie before sweeping out of the room before Scottie even had a chance to speak.

"Lieutenant; please greet Mr Chekov when he arrives and ensure he has everything he needs. I will be in the ships engineering lab and am not to be disturbed"

Shern proceeded to the engineering lab; entering through the side door with his command authorisation. There was only one other person in the room...

"Tallulah, are the weapons ready for deployment yet"

She looked up and smilied. "I've isolated the Romulan's DNA. Within hours I will finally have the biological agent synthesised"

Shern smiled and sat down. "Don't let me keep you from your work. I need to ensure I fill in the 'paperwork' for these munitions."

Chekov went straight to engineering. Although on the networked computer system he could do it anywhere on the ship, it would be so much faster in engineering. Speaking to noone he rushed into engineering and proceeded to transfer his new program and sub routines to portable storage. He was done within minutes and ran towards the transported room to beam over to Shern's ship.

"I'm ready for transport" Chekov said as he ran onto the transporter pad.

"You must be Mr Chekov. Welcome aboard. If you follow me I will take you to your colleague. "

Chekov smiled and nodded before following the Lieutenant. It seemed a while be he finally made it to the sensor arrays and reported to Scottie.

"Ensign Chekov reporting Sir. I have the program"

"Whatever helps you get through the day," Uhura replied. "And no-not Spock. He's far out of your league."

McCoy sat at his chair resting with his eyes shut. He was tired but stubborn too. He was hardly ever gone from the medical bay unless Kirk made him go on missions.

She has served the Starfleet for many years, but noone knows how many. She has many qualifications, but noone knows quite what.

Scotty looked surprised at Sherns enthusiasm and opened his mouth to speak before he bounded off elsewhere.
"er..thankyou sir." he said aimlessly into the air, cocking an eyebrow. he then shook himself and headed off to make use of Shern's engineering crew and transfer the cargo into the proper places.
he started work on getting the rudimentary set up, not letting up on barking his orders at the crew just because they weren't his own men, and smiled when Chekov eventually arrived.
"there you are, let's get this show on the road."

Zepatos huffed.
"no offense, since i know you two are joined at the hip n' all, but I don't think i want to be in his league. it looks miserable. Al right then, who?"

Uhura narrowed her eyes. "You don't know him," she replied getting defensive about Spock. "And just for that I'm not telling you who. Jinx...let's go. I'll teach you more back in your quarters."

Jinx pouted. "Jinx stay.....Zepatos friend," she insisted.

Uhura sighed and wondered how Jinx would feel when the girl found out he was the one transporting her....even if he didn't know it would proabably do some damage.

"And you don't know me."

Zepatos retorted somewhat childishly. He looked peeved that she wanted to take Jinx away as well since Jinx was keeping him company and seemed to be the only one who actually liked him. He pressed a palm on the glass.

"oh come on, i'm sorry alright? your boyfriend's probably a wonderful person, for a Vulcan."

he apologised, back-peddling so he wouldn't be left on his own again. While he had enjoyed his own company before, being alone in a cell where anyone could look at you was depressing, and being around people had heightened his desire for friendship.

"Come on, you don't have anything better to do. Let's just..I dunno..chat or something. That way jinx will learn how to form a conversation, right? So I don't know anything about you and your boyfriend - enlighten me."

Uhura huffed and crossed her arms as her mind battled to make a choice. In the end she decided....for Jinx's interest to stay here for the lesson. She carefully knelt down beside Jinx. "He's only half Vulcan," she replied. "And he already gets enough discrimination as it by other Vulcan's without others adding to it."

She took a deep breath as Jinx looked on very confused as to what just happened.

"ok, ok, I'd say 'can't he take a joke', but he is part Vulcan so obviously not..."
he then smirked guiltily aware that it did seem to upset her.
"Alright that was the last Vulcan joke I swear. I'll be good. I just get twitchy with Vulcans - they tend to get patronising to my race. I'm sure he's fine once you get to know him. Being half human is a bonus."
he leant with his back partially on the glass so he was more comfortable and smiled encouragingly at Jinx.
"What about you? Aside form your surname, linguistic skills and the fact you look marvelous in that dress, I know zip about you."

"Well.....I can sing," Uhura replied. "Decently enough, I suppose."

Then she quickly added, "And no-you're not getting a show."

"So what do you have to say about yourself to not make me think you're an idiot and a fool?"

Jinx flicked her tail against the floor and the bangles on it made a clicking noise. She was beginning to feel ignored.

"you can sing?" Zepatos exclaimed, sounding impressed. She didn't seem the type to him, but then everyone was full of surprises. he looked a little disappointed when she stopped him even suggesting to hear her.
"Me?" he shrugged. "I dunno i think you're a harsh critic." he smirked.
"ok...well let's see, I grew up on a merchant ship as a kid, but pirates attacked it and i had to evacuate. Without my parents I was more or less stranded on one of the space stations and I gradually made friends with what you'd call the bad guys I guess. I helped out, y'know tried to find something to do, and i ended up on one of the smuggling ships. When the captain retired when i was 16 he gave me the Araname and my life has pretty much been souping her up and trying to make a living. My life is space, y'know? It's in my blood and I love the freedom I have in space. I'm a damn good pilot i'll have you know, and i know my way round an engine. I'm not completly useless."
he sighed and messed around with a few strands of his hair thoughtfully.
"I can't do much else....i'm kinda of lost. If i'd been around and had the opportunity i'd have probably joined Starfleet."
he shrugged a little regretfully.
"Wasn't to be, I guess."

"One never knows what could happen in the future," Uhura replied. "After-all....if you are cut from the same cloth as him there's at least a slight chance.....maybe." She smiled trying to be optimistic for him but leaving the mystery as to 'who' this person was.

Jinx flicked her tail again and then slumped up against the glass.

Zepatos sighed genuinely sadly and turned so he was leaning against the glass to face Uhura properly.
"Yeah right, like they'd take me with my record...the way i see it is I've got three options." he held up his fingers for emphasis and counted them.
"One - I try running again and take up my old life. But i can't escape and starfleet are after me even if I did. And even if i dodged them, the guy who gave me Jinx will either kill me or try and put me in some serious debt to him because i didn't deliver Jinx's cargo, and Fate knows Jinx is expensive!"
he ran a hand over his face.
"My carefree life, as fragile and pathetic a state as it was, is gone. Not that I had any dream to shatter i guess." he laughed bitterly.
"Two - I stay here and go to prison. maybe I somehow get lucky enough to not 'drop the soap' so to speak and in a few years they let me out and i'm back to issue 1, only that guy's had more time to get pissed off at me."
he then held up his last finger.
"Or thre's three, my wishful thinking option - that somehow i can stay here and get a job or something. maybe then I'd have a goal to work toards and I can actually make something of my life. I've got nothing to loose, as you can see, heck - i don't even want to go back to my home planet since i don't remember it much. but the problem here is who the hell woudl want me, even if i can make myself useful? i've had no starfleet training and no-one likes me."

he thumped his head on teh glass.
"argh man you're right, i am pathetic. i'm man enough to admit that."

Uhura had pity on him. "Well, I normally don't do this....and I shouldn't really," she replied. "But I could try to put in a good word for you....although with the escape attempts I'm not sure what good it will do. However I can't provide Jinx with consist lessons she'll need since my time is split on the bridge. So perhaps something could be arranged later....perhaps for a set time and under supervision you could be escorted to her quarters to give lessons when I can't. You can argue she's most attached to you....but you didn't hear it from me."

Jinx had perked up at hearing her name and tried to lick Zepatos's forhead as he thumped it against the glass.

Zepatos looked carefully at her, guarding himself about getting too optimistic in case he was disappointed, but smiling anyway touched by the gesture.
"You'd do that for me?" he asked and pressed his hand against the glass since he couldn't shake hers in gratitude.
"Thankyou. I truly appreciate it. I'll be on my best behaviour and make it up to you. And I'll figure out how to teach Jinx. i'll work at it, I promise."
He looked much happier now he had something to work towards and the hope that things wouldn't be completely bleak.
he then smiled at jinx as she still pawed at him.

[hmm i can imagine Uhura trying to persuade spock lol]

"Then I guess of that's settled I can trust you enough not to go bounding out the door," Uhura commented as she stood up to open the cell door. Jinx paused and watched....knowing what was about to happen. The moment the door opened she darted inside and pounced him. "And even if you did she would stop you." Uhura laughed.
