You could use a ship like Freya has, if you need a freighter.

I can but a newer YT model from Correlian Engineering.

Stun guns and melee weapons are a Pirates tools of choice. In the cramped confines of a starship, theres little room for a real firefight and one that gets out of hand screws everyone over.
Vibrocutlasses are still in among pirates as well as vibroaxes, stun batons and whatever else they can scrounge up that they can wield in one hand.

Only wield a vibroblade if you know how to use it. But then again if his character is in experienced and wants to be like the pirates that he sees in holoflicks then he might have one. Please use some common sense though. Most likely you'll be firing a pistol or using some other ranged weapon.

Unfortunately I have a bad feeling about when Cale sees this.

Cale knows his bounds. If he doesn't I'll make sure he knows them. He isn't the pirate king anymore; his critisims are negated because he dropped that title. He can comment, but the RP will decide whether the character lives or dies, not him.

You're right. I'm not the Pirate King anymore.
Ive ascended Mortality.
I am now a Pirate God.

Understand though, that they dont make 'em out of cortosis weave anymore.
Swords and axes arent too effective against a ship full of mercenaries or stormies, so you'll have to pick your targets carefully and apply the proper force.
Always go in nonlethal and capture, dont kill the crew of your prize. If you start murdering too many people, it gets the feds on your a** that much quicker. So go in with stun grenades, slaver carbines, and shock devices.
Treat those who surrender fairly, deal those who resist a heavy hand.
Keep your eyes on the cargo and dont loot your victims unless they reisist.
Never hunt in your back yard.
Treat your crew fairly. You may be captain, but only as long as they let you.
On the same token, dont be too soft on them. They're a band of cuthroats and thieves who would gladly take your job from you.
Load up on Ion Cannons and and tractor beams.
Start saving up for a gravity well generator. It will make your job a hell of alot easier.
Back in my day we had to drag asteroids into hyperlanes and force a mass shadow block, so be grateful they got gravety wells in your era.
And make sure never to kill a Sector Ranger.
Thats my advice to you.

Oh with my strategy I lure them in then attack them so an Ion cannon is not needed. My style is more along the lines of Captain Lefay from the 1700's

Well, if you want to destroy your cargo and quickly make every hit list known to the galaxy, Go right ahead.

Ion Cannons are your best friend. Trick them to get close, but risking turbolaser fire on an unarmed frigate isn't always the best idea. Plus, there are some words such as "disable" which you may want to learn, and the ion is the best way to go.

You misunderstand, I lure them in with a decrepit ship that is sending out a beleivable distress signal. They come in and latch onto the ship. After that I and my crew bord them stunning all and only killing those who resist too much. Then we take their ship and put them on ours with enough food and energy to get back to a nearby planet.

In a galaxy with tractor beams they won't latch onto your ship. That strategy won't work that well.

By doing that, you dishonor every code of conduct spacers live by.
That distress beacon is the only thing that will save your a** when trouble really occurs. And when you're faking derelict to nab prizes, you're damning any spacer caught adrift who's counting on that beacon.
Besides, theres a good chance its a Military ship laden with stormies who picks up your signal, or even tougher pirates than you.
You go through with that plan, and I'll pray someone makes you walk the lock.
Theres no room in the stars for a dishonest dirtgrubber like you.
