Ulla watched as Rala's formed started to change slightly. She sighed of relief seeing this but then in the back of her mind, she remembered the feeling she got from XD002. She shivered a bit as Lucario noticed this. When Ter finally entered the room and recalled Rala, he sighed of relief as changed back to his normal form. Ulla snapped out of her fear as she hugged Ter back. "I'm sure it will be much easier than before."

Wren arrived in the Super Training Room with a pair of Nest Balls in hand. Heading to the center of the room, he tossed both balls into the air and released Nutmeg and Mandragora. The Bounsweet should both be fairly close to evolving about this time and Mandragora needed a bit of in-battle training anyway so this would be good for the both of them, especially since Mandragora had evolved without ever battling once thanks to that Rare Candy he'd gotten into.

"Alrigh-ugh..." Covering his nose once his Gloom's scent hit his nose, he tried to continue. "You two need some training so that's what we're doing today." He decided, sighing with a small amount of relief when Nutmeg's pleasant scent began to overpower Mandragora's stench.

"Alright. Time to get started. I want you two making your own decisions in this mock battle. It'll give me a little better idea of how you two fight."

Nutmeg and Mandragora both nodded and took up positions opposite one another. Nutmeg bounced in place a few times before whipping a few bladed leaves from her sepals.

Mandragora spit a glob of Acid from his flower's stigma, melting down the Razor Leaf as it met the attack in midair.

Nutmeg bounced out of the way of the remaining acid coming at her and sent another swarm of leaves after Mandragora with Magical Leaf, the rainbow glow of the leaves shifting continuously as they swirled around, searching for a weak point.

Mandragora sent a swirl of crimson petals flying from his own flower, the Petal Blizzard confounding the Magical Leaf and managing to overpower it at the same time. The Gloom's expression hardly changed, however, the dull look of disinterest uninterrupted by the battle he was engaging in.

Nutmeg Bounced into the air, managing to get up by the ceiling and, somehow, holding herself there with a cloud of pressurized air created by her energy.

Mandragora gave her a curious glance, his expression not really changing to reflect the curiousity, before he spouted a cloud of Stun Spore.

Nutmeg's incoming crash landing sent her right through the cloud of spores but she didn't seem to have been affected by them in the slightest. Mandragora must have had very little battle experience at all to not know that it and it's ilk were immune to such moves. He did, however, take a step or two backwards and ended up just barely out of range of Nutmeg's attack.

"Sweet!" The Fruit Pokemon exclaimed as she bounced off the floor, accidentally releasing an Aromatic Mist as she was squished against the hard surface.

"Gloom?" Mandragora asked as the pleasant scent wafted over him. It didn't seem to be doing much for him or for Nutmeg. Cocking his head tot he side, he watched for a moment before spitting another glob of Acid from his stigma.

Nutmeg didn't hesitate to defend herself with an offensive move, using Zen Headbutt to blast right through the acid with her sepals ablaze with psychic power. When she landed, she looked more confident and, after a moment, she was swallowed up by a bright light. Her shaped changed and she grew in size for several moments before the light faded and, when it did, a brand new Steenee stood in her place.

"Loom gloom!" Mandragora cheered before he sent a Petal Blizzard flying at her.

Nutmeg looked at herself for a moment, happily stretching out her new arms for a moment before Mandragora used Petal Blizzard again. The attack coming at her wasn't going to make her lose focus, though.

Jumping into the air with a hard push of her new legs, she flipped over the Petal Blizzard and came crashing down with her pointed feet glowing with white energy.

Mandragora took a step backwards again, just barely evading another of the newly evolved Fruit Pokemon's aerial attacks. He seemed to have a strange sort of calm about him that allowed him to avoid such maneuvers. After avoiding the Stomp, his stamens began to glow as he attempted to sap the energy from Nutmeg via Giga Drain.

Nutmeg jumped away again but it didn't stop her from being hit. It did, however, minimize the damage as only a tiny orb of energy was drawn out of her and carried back to Mandragora.

With a wave of her arm and a snap of her wrist, she began a strange, jittery dance with lots of spinning and and flipping. Her Teeter DanceWasn't the most elegant thing but it should prove effective.

Mandragora wobbled out of the path of the Magical Leaf, revealing to Wren that he was topheavy and his legs weren't yet strong enough to move him quickly. That explained the stationary battling and minimal movements so far. In an effort to make it easier to fight against his sparring partner, Mandragora used Strength Sap, an interesting pink orb popping out of Nutmeg's body and drifted toward him. He didn't seem to recover any HP from the move but Nutmeg definitely felt the effect as her attack stat dropped.

"Nee!" She chirruped, rushing toward Mandragora and snapping a leg into the air with her foot glowing white. Attempting to Stomp the Weed Pokemon, she found her foot caught in his hands and seemingly unable to press through his grip. "Stee nee nee!" She griped, pressing harder.

Mandragora's drool-dripping smirk was quickly masked by a Petal Blizzard exploding out of him and shoving the Fruit Pokemon away.

Thrown back by the point-blank Petal Blizzard, Nutmeg bounced off the ground and flipped over, spinning around in a quick pirouette before a flurry of Magical Leaf erupted from her again. Mandragora's defense was to fire an Acid into the seemingly sentient swarm of enchanted petals, melting them down into a liquid form.

Nutmeg lifted her foot as a few drops of Acid landed near her and then glared at Mandragora. Leaping into the air, she spun herself at high speed as if to use her sepals like helicopter blades and hold herself aloft for a Bounce.

Mandragora watched her as she floated before dropping down, not even bothering to waste his energy attempting to attack her at that range. As she came crashing down, the Gloom noticed a distinct lack of Flying energy. Hitting the floor, Nutmeg bounced slightly and slipped over, foot glowing white as she executed a surprise Stomp and slammed Mandragora face-first into the ground.

Bouncing off of Mandragora's head, Nutmeg pranced across the floor again, putting a bit of distance between the two again. It looked like her Teeter Dance had finally kicked in, though, as the Gloom wobbled and turned, seemingly confused.

Mandragora twisted and turned, trying to focus again but seemingly unable to do so. He tried to release a cloud of Poison Powder to give himself a moment to recuperate but the energy that bubbled up to charge the pollen used for the attack "popped", sending him stumbling backward and crashing into the floor again..

Nutmeg wasn't going to look a gift opportunity int he mouth and raced over, stamping a glowing foot square into the Weed Pokemon's rump.

Mandragora almost squeaked in surprise, a glob of Acid ejecting without thought toward the wall he was facing when he fall. While it wasn't aimed at Nutmeg, directly, the attack was fired at such speed that when it hit the wall, the splash back resulted in a sort of acid rain for a second or two that did manage to get on her and caused her to yelp in pain and surprise, jumping away again.

That kick to the rear seemed to have been enough to clear Mandragora's head and the Gloom was able to stand up with ease, thinking more clearly now than he had been a moment before. With the damage he's taken over the last few rounds, he chose to take the moment and heal. A small orb of pale white energy rose slowly into the air from the center of his bloom, glowing like a pseudo moon above him, it's mystical light bestowing a strange sort of healing power upon the crimson-flowered Weed Pokemon.

Nutmeg decided she may as well Play Nice for the moment, walking over and seemingly basking in the moonlight for the moment as well. It did throw Mandragora off-kilter for the moment, though. Weren't they battling just a second ago?

"Gloom gloom?" He asked, wondering what she was up to.

"Nee steenee nee steeeee." She replied, giving him a polite but somewhat dismissive response.

"Loom gloom." Mandragora replied, a storm of crimson flower petals quickly starting up around him as he used Petal Blizzard to get this training mission back on track.

"Nee?" Nutmeg asked, surprised. Standing at the heart of the attack, she couldn't avoid it so her only option was to try to knock Mandragora around until he quit using it. Feet aglow, she began to kick the Gloom into the air and juggled him around for a moment while he tried to overpower her with his Petal Blizzard. After a few bounced, Nutmeg dropped him and delivered a hard Stomp.

Petal Blizzard came to a stop, finally, but Mandragora wasn't down for the count yet.

"That's enough for today, you two." Wren finally called. He'd seen enough of their fighting to see that Nutmeg was the more aggressive type of fighter and Madragora preferred to try and outlast his opponent. Victory through stamina rather than strength.

"You'll both make powerful battlers when you're fully evolved. But for now, let's focus on honing your skills and keeping you healthy, ok?" He told them.

"Nee nee steenee!"
"Loom gloom!"

Both Pokemon cried out rather cheerfully. The best part of all this battling, in Wren's eyes, was that he was adjusting to Mandragora's smell.Or maybe Nutmeg's scent was just masking it enough that he could suffer through it without much difficulty. Regardless of how he made it through, Wren recalled the pair of Pokemon and headed back to to the greenhouse.

Veronica brought Pisces and Cosmo together to train. "I want you to do a battle of five turns, This time things might go differently, so try your best!"
For the two boys, this would be more of a mind game: who could outplay who?
They looked at one another with a serious look, Cosmo added a smirk. Pisces knew he was still too confident and was nearly certain he knew how to predict the Zorua.
Cosmo made the first move: moving from side to side, using Nasty Plot to focus his powers.
Pisces's face grew flat, he had known that Cosmo would take his time and so there had been no point in using Protect yet. He knew Cosmo was stronger, that he probably could have won if he had thought more carefully about the Mudkip's moveset. Regardless, Pisces quickly approached Cosmo and successfully Yawned on the Zorua.
Cosmo tried shaking his head from the drowsiness, perhaps believing that he could resist it. He didn't hesitate to make the next move, and just as well Pisces prepared to shield up at the right time. Cosmo attempted to send out his Night Daze but failed against the Protect.
Cosmo couldn't help but yawn widely and fell to the ground asleep. That's when Pisces took his chance and practiced Rock Throw. That left a small mark on the Zorua but it didn't wake him. Pisces knew that Cosmo was far stronger than he was, both in stats and moves, so he had to technically play dirty.
Then Pisces shot a direct Water Gun, hitting an unexpected critical hit. This, however, did wake Cosmo up.
"Hey!!" he complained, slightly angry that he was losing. He prepared a very powerful Night Daze that would have surely knocked the Mudkip out if it wasn't for his quick reaction to use Protect.
Then Cosmo decided to shoot out a Shadow Ball, impacting Pisces greatly. He retaliated with a second Water Gun.
"Halt!" Veronica ordered. "You both did great." She said, "So shake on it."
They both seemed to have been trying their best. "Well... okay." Cosmo agreed.
"Mud!" Pisces approached to shake paws with Cosmo. Cosmo smirked.
"Now, I need you two to stand back, there's someone who I need to send out." Veronica called for them to get behind her.
Once they did, she sent out her shadow Absol, Cherry.
"I need you to go ahead and take your time practicing all your moves, Cherry." Veronica asked of her.
Cherry started by sending out basic Razor Winds at the practice target, leaving open marks on the cloth. Then she switched to Psycho Cut and finished cutting off the practice targets completely. After that, she used Incinerate to set them ablaze. She looked to Veronica who was standing by, analizing how Cherry was doing.
"Good." she smiled.
The two smaller critters found the older pokemon's moves mesmerizing.
Veronica went to the panel to switch the grounds type. An area full of rocks came up afterwards. "Finish off on these." Veronica asked.
Cherry went ahead and used Dark Pulse to cause cracks in the rocks and plummet them with her second attack, she repeated this several times. Very slowly, the emptyness inside her would heal as she exerted the darkness out of her body.

Veronica decided to return Cherry to make sure she took things slowly. Then, she sent out the rest of her team: Jellicent, Flygon, Lucario and Infernape.
"Meet these critters: Cosmo and Pisces," Veronica began. "They're been training pretty hard and it dawned on me that maybe you guys might have some things to improve as well. So," Veronica changed the grounds on the panel once more. "We'll take turns. Chi, you go first." The scenery was a volcanic one. Perfect for a fire-fighting type.
Chi nodded. He had known Veronica nearly all his life. He had been Veronica's first pokemon. There was no one that knew her better or had a more balanced connection with her. He knew exactly what she meant: not only did he need to pull off something stronger than his previous moves but he also needed to find something that was both different and kept the balance types in their team. He decided that to do that he would first need to choose what moves could be improved on.
'Close Combat': It was really powerful, but they had started to face more powerful opponents as well and a simple one-shot just wasn't viable anymore. Such a move would only drag a battle out when his attack stats got lowered. In the end, he knew he would need to be strong enough to endure getting hit first if it meant dealing more damage. It was time he showed Veronica all that he had learned, with principal, concentration and determination. There was a move he had seen before that applied to all of those...
He let the fighting energy he had to flow through him slowly, he gathered his focus and started to glow in a bronze color. Then, he unleashed a Focus Blast forward, causing a large explosion. He practiced it once more in another direction, the area where he shot lit up in flames from the surrounding fire.
Still, while it was a more reliable attack for extended battles, he had the accuracy to worry. Chi decided he needed to have a back up upper hand in case he did need to attempt a one shot hit. This time, he allowed his energy to change into something simple that anyone could do: a tackle. Only it wasn't just any tackle. Chi rushed forward with all his strength, the kind of strength that could rip a human in two, and used Giga Impact on the volcanic wall, causing it to utterly crumble.
"Well done." Veronica complimented him as he rested for a turn.
However, he told the others that he wasn't done. "Inf, Infer." Veronica had been right, there was so much to learn still - and up till this point they hadn't taken their battles seriously but rather as more of a hobby if anything.
He started to absorb the fire around him to gather power. Then, instead of using his usual Fire Punch, he blew forward all of the fire in a star shape Fire Blast which was powered up even more fiercely by his Charcoal. Again, a move with lesser accuracy. Veronica knew there would be risks. But Chi trusted that Veronica would take manners into her own hands in order to help him improve on his accuracy. Whether that was by practice or with an item.
This Infernape Veronica had seen was a very different one, he had decided to no longer rely on the speed to quickly knock out the opponent but turned into a pokemon that would focus and defeat their opponent with a plan.
At last, Chi decided to allow another to take the stage.

The Lucario decided to go next. For this, Veronica changed the scenery to a more fighting-psychic stage where a pokemon like Lucario might have felt most at home. Havoc had now completely healed after having gone through the shadow virus and being nearly killed by the evil Sableye. It was time she did more to prove her worth than survive. Havoc decided to start out with her Quick Attack. No longer would a quick attack be enough, she decided, it was a thing of the past. Just as Chi had, she needed to show she had grown to become better and stronger. Instead of simply attacking rapidly, her speed was incredibly accelerated, and she crossed several targets as she took them down with Extreme Speed in mere seconds.
That wasn't the only thing she did, though. For a long time, she had admired Chi and felt it within her to show that in some way. So in the next turn, instead of her usual fighting move, she decided to honor Chi by learning his Close Combat that had become almost like a trademark of his. While Chi could be the steady, most powerful pokemon Veronica had, Havoc would want the place of the fastest. Havoc practiced Close Combat several times, planning for her attack to be lowered in order to cause less casualty for the next part.
Just as Chi had his signature move, Havoc also wanted to make her own mark. To be able to do something special no one in her team had before, to stand out even more. At first, she allowed herself to focus greatly as this was something more on the experimental side. The ground started to shake, and with all the energy she had left, she pulled off an Earthquake throughout the training area, making cracks on the floor.
With that, Havoc bowed, pleased to have done as well as she did.

After that, Spirit decided to step up, although the Jellicent didn't have such convictions that Chi and Havoc had, he did feel like he needed some practice. Veronica switched the area into a water area with the panel. The Jellicent practiced shooting out his Hydro Pump, making it not just be a simple water shot but a calculated amount of water swirling forward for an effective critical hit. Then, Spirit took an even thinner water shot, fixated on the temperature this time. With a second attempt, it started to frost up. And with a third attempt, an Ice Beam came out. It wasn't perfect yet but it was something Spirit had in mind for a long time. However, that would be all. He practiced the Ice Beam twice more before decided to finish.

Everyone looked at BlackCrystal, the Flygon. However he only yawned and curled up, uninterested in the training. Veronica nodded. "That's fine, everyone works at their own pace here." She was about to return them but then it occurred to her to mention, "I have a feeling we will need to start expecting stronger foes. I'm glad you're by my side." With that, they cheered. Although Veronica couldn't understand, she could assume what they meant.

I sighed as I entered the training room. Rala had come a long way from the initial state of her infection, but she had a long way to go before the Shadow Virus finally released its hold on her. Before I could grab her ball to let her out, Brunor popped out of his ball, and Samurai soon followed. Samurai was the first to speak, doing so in Pokespeak, but Bruno wasn't one to stay silent in this situation. "He's right. We can both help." Brunor didn't have Rala's gift for telepathic speech, but I had enough of a bond with him to hear his thoughts.

"Sounds like a plan," I said wearily, not wanting to argue with them. Besides, I could appreciate their desire to help. With nothing else said between us, I let Rala out of her ball. To my surprise, she didn't try to attack me, instead weakly snarling at Brunor. "I'm relying on you two," I said before stepping outside. With a nod from the pair, I walked out of the training room, and the two went to work, Psycho Cutting and Razor Shelling Rala until her body collided with a wall. Rala didn't seem to react at first, but then reached out an arm and fired a Psychic at Samurai, who was knocked back by the attack.

"Don't hold back!" I warned those two from behind the door. "You'll have to give this fight everything you've got in order to further her purification!"

After nodding at me, Brunor charged Dark-type energy in his arm and lashed out at the infected Rala with Night Slash. Unsurprisingly, the attack wasn't super-effective, but it did knock Rala back a bit, giving Samurai enough time to lunge forward with Aqua Jet, slamming right into Rala's infected heart. Rala let out a pained screech that she then amplified into Hyper Voice as a means of pushing Brunor and Samurai back.

"Don't rely on moves that'd normally be super-effective. Shadow Pokemon are only weak to Shadow moves!" I warned them, though feelings of uselessness were beginning to manifest within me again. I could only watch and try to give them advice - it was up to them to further tame Rala's mind, corrupted as it was by the disease.

Rala continued to use Hyper Voice for some time, straining the fighting energy that Brunor and Samurai had - until the former used Wide Guard to block the damaging energy of the move. Looking to take advantage of Brunor's ability to block Hyper voice, the Dewott said something to his Gallade companion in Pokespeak before using Encore, forcing Rala to continue to use Hyper Voice for a few extra turns. Apparently his plan was to have Burnor comtinuously nullify the Encored move, leaving the Water-type free to attack the infected Rala as he pleased. I had to smirk at that - he definitely seemed like he was gaining more of an eye for strategy lately, although it could be the desperate situation drawing this side of him out.

With Rala and Burnor equally held in place, Samurai unleashed a Night Slash of his own on the infected Gardevoir, knocking her back against a wall. She was unable to do anything about it but continue screaming, though.

Rala and Burnor continued to stay locked together, Rala forced to continue using Hyper Voice due to Samurai's Encore, and Brunor forced to continue using Wide Guard lest he and Samurai suffer further damage due to the powerful move. Samurai, however, was free to do as he pleased, and he was happy to use this time to his advantage against the infected Gardevoir.

After taking a moment to think of his moveset, Samurai decided on another move to surpress Rala's power, and perhaps give Burnor a chance to strike. Gathering Water-type energy, Samurai surrounded Rala in it, trapping her in a powerful Water Pulse. Samurai looked up at Brunor and smirked, as if to say it was his turn, but before either of them could attack, Samurai's Water Pulse shattered, torn up from the inside by one last Hyper Voice. The two watched Rala descend, but didn't see the Shadow Ball she was charging until it was too late. Brunor took said Ghost-type move to the chest, and was knocked back. When Samurai looked back to check on him, he had fainted.

Rala let out a depraved chuckle that caught Samurai's attention, filling the small Otter Pokemon with rage the likes of which it hadn't felt before. In a furious gambit, he surrounded himself in Normal-type energy and lunged at the infected Gardevoir, looking to knock her unconscious with his Retaliation. Rala tried to counter the attack with Thunder Punch, but was taking as much damage as she was dishing out. In the end both fell back, terribly weakened, but neither passed out.

"Good job, you two," I said, recalling Brunor. Since Samurai hadn't fainted, I let him stay out. My attention was quickly shifted to Rala, as the viral energy pulsing though her body began to slowly fade. It didn't leave her entirely, but I could feel its hold on her weakening.
