To attempt without music paper..
Let's say that the chord I hear is A, C and E...
The first inversion of that would be C, E, and A[the A above the E instead of the A below the C]...
And then second inversion would be E, A, and C [same concept]
Inversions sounds different because of the bass note.
[To get more complicated:
A, C, E is a minor chord.
C, E, A is both an first-inverted A chord and a major chord
E, A, C is both a second-inverted A chord and an augmented chord.
Even though they have the same letter names.
I believe.
