I think this is the answer...:

At first Kenshin didn't use a technique, cuz Shishio was watching the duel, but when he heard Shishio would kill Senkaku if Kenshin didn't show at least one move, Kenshin used the Ryushosen...

PS-I'm holding a bat cuz it looks like a bokken (I'll get my kimono back soon!)
PPS-I can't beleive I remembered that! I don't even own Volume 9, and the last time I saw it was December!
