Crossman I'm sure someone has already mentioned this, but my biggest issue with the prequels is the timeline! It completely goes against everything. Episode III, according to the movies, is only like 18-20 years before Episode IV. The clones wars were supposed to have been at least 30-40 years prior. And Anakin was not even supposed to become Vader until AFTER the clone wars. YEARS after. The Official Guide to the Star Wars Universe, from back in the 90s has all the basic events dated. This was something approved by Lucas! The time inconsistancies are horrible!!! And don;t even get me started on the time jumps in Ep. III like Palpatine being able to race across the galaxy from Coruscant to Mustafar instantly after the battle between Anakin and Obi-Wan. It was just ALL poorly and planned and horrifically executed. George Lucas should be linched and then the prequels remade, CORRECTLY.
Ok, while I have my own issues with the SW prequels, a point about the whole rescue thing: The fight between Yoda and Palpatine didn't necessarily last as long as the one between Obi-Wan and Anakin. I know it's cut like that, but my personal opinion is that Palpatine had just enough time to get there...plus the fact that Anakin caught on fire just as Obi-wan left, but the flames were out when Palpatine got there.
Perhaps part of the problem that Lucas had making the prequels is that he'd already approved timelines and story elements. Like a writer, such a story would undergo many revisions; unfortunately, when one version is accepted as set in stone, the newer one usually isn't accepted.
