The Betrayal of Luminair (Cities in the Skies)

Before Ry left, she looked over at Watcher. "Is there any way to contact Lance?"

Sydney laughed heartily. "It's not the most pleasent feeling."

"And I know how it feels..." He sighed. "I've gone blind plenty of times before, in past lives."

Watcher looked over at Ry. Pausing for a second as he tried to come up with an answer. He knew he himself could transport himself to the location. He wasn't entirely sure what his limits here on Earth were though. On his home planet where there were fewer limitations. He could just bring the batch of them to where Lance was. Communication wasn't one of his specialties.

I can't really help you with that. I'm not entirely sure if I could transport more than myself that distant. With the barrier, the difference in gravity and my own abilities factored in. Here I can transport myself about 130 miles. But more than one person would cut that number in half rounded up by my level of concentration. Maybe I could go there myself and relay the message of where you are. And he could make it here on his own strength.

Zach sighed. "It'd be tiring as hell, but I could open a Rift and drag him back..." He sighed again. "No, nearly killed me with two people and a short distance..." He smiled faintly. "But it was nice, seeing Virsaix again..."

Watcher looked over at him. He's right, only people on the level of people like Odin. Can pull stuff like that here on earth. Without putting themselves in danger. That blasted barrier!!! Wait a minute, the barrier has been down most of this time. That is why all of these rather figures have been able to show up from our world. I would be less damaged than you Zach in your current state if I tried that. But it would still be risky. Seeing as I most likely have less knowledge than yourself on dark plains and rifts. Maybe I could contact a specialist from my own world. And he could bring Lance safely here...shall I?

"Why don't you just use your previous idea? Teleport to where he is and tell him where we are!" She started writting the address on stationary and gave it to Watcher.

Sydney sat near Aphrodites, staring at the floor and just listening to all the conversation silently.

Aphrodite growled and sprung up, holding Zach's shoulders. "Listen, Zachary, I don't need you getting yourself in near death experiences every two days just because you want to see Virsaix!" She hugged him. "I'm afraid I really will lose you, child..." Her voice lapsed into her Greek accent again at the end. When she continued, it was still there. "Zachary, you're practically my own child. You can't keep doing it."

Ry looked at the two, eyes soft. She felt a bit out of place now. She feared for Zach's safety too...but it seemed so feeble next to the raw emotion Aph was displaying in front of them.

"Listen to her Zach," Sydney said softly, white eyes still downcast.

He growled, breaking free. "Aphrodite, I have a right to see my mother! She's waiting for me, Aphrodite, and I like to see her... it's why I chose to accept Them. So I can die when I choose, and see my mother." Turning, he stalked out, muttering, "The goddess of love cannot understand what family is..."

She sighed, and whispered, "I'm sorry, Zachary..." She knew he'd hear it.

"Follow him," Sydney snapped towards Ry, who jumped up a little.

"Uh...r-r-right!" She made sure her ears were covered by her hair as she trotted after Zachary.

"Virsaix is his mother," She murmured. "An angel... she waits on the edge of life and death for her son."

Watcher took the stationary note from Rys hand nodding. As he stuffed it in his pocket. Then he placed his hands in front of him. As the adept wizard started to chant a transportation spell. He created a portal right in front of him. Stepping forward he attempted to move through it. A familiar face walked out of the portal just as he was walking in. The figure was sort of young. But seemed to have gone through some sort of organized trainer. He bowed his head before Watcher. Then began to speak in a hurried manner.

Pardon me master Watcher. But currently you are needed back at HQ. Balins speech has divided our troops. Turning some of them against the organizations of the Watchers and Knights. Some are even trying to tackle the Defenders of the land. Though every time they attack one of them. More of the rebels are captured by some sort of spell cast by those people. The elders were not kidding when they said those people were strong. The young man saw Aphrodite and immediately bowed there head to them as well. Forgive my intrusion goddess.

Watcher handed the note to the cadet in training. Explaining where he needed to go. Then before walking through the portal he changed the destination of it. Looking over his shoulder at the lot of them. I am needed elsewhere but this cadet can relay my message to Lance. The cadet and Watcher vanished to different locations in a flash of light that split the air like lightning.

The cadet walked up to Lance. Looking at the lights that were following him. Ummmm..excuse me sir but I would told to give you this message. He handed the peace of paper to Lance.

Lance held out his right hand taking the piece of paper from the cadet. They were both around the same age only in different branches. So he didn't recognize the one that had delivered the letter. Lance read the note then clenched his fist. As the two lights floating beside him came to him. He opened a portal in front of him with his dark powers. That was the only type of portal he had learned how to make. The knights trained mostly in physical training. Learning only magic that had a practical application. Unlike the Watchers who trained in both. And were well read, kept up to date on the latest spells. He stepped through the portal as it led back to where Ry and the others were. Only when he came out of the portal he looked like a large shadow. He slashed his hand in the air as the shadow that had attempted to corrupt him in the shadow world disappeared. Then he smiled at the group. So...what did I miss?

"Zach is upset, Ry went after him, Aphrodites won't stop making passes at me...You didn't miss a thing." Sydney leaned back in the chair.

Ry finally caught up to Zach farther down the hallway. "Zach," she called softly.

Aphrodite smirked and kissed Sydney's cheek.
