As Angeles and Louis started riding out once again, Kageko continued to follow from the back. They were too far away for her to really sense whether or not patrols were coming out of the castle itself. However, so far, no one had managed to come close enough for the girl to sense.

Emilia stared for a while at the horses following them. Why the hell did she have to ride with Leon?! Couldn't she have her own horse?!
She sighed and grunted.
The truth was that she was in agony. She had seen companions die before but not like that...not by the order of the one they had served for so long, not like murderers or enemies of the country.
She hated the King and she was just unable to cry over her lost comrades. Maybe they were friends, maybe not, she just was unable to express her sorrow.

Louis was silent, lost in his thoughts, eyes in front of his horse, trying to keep pace with the high speed of Leon.

The rest of the ride it seemed was made in silence, everyone left to their own thoughts and feelings, Leon's face alone seemed unreadable. As time went on the sun moved down in the sky as they passed through the more well known forest near the capital and across a broad empty expanse. Soon they were in a lesser know forest with the sun dancing on the horizon and Leon's countenance shifted slightly as he said, "we're almost there."

Emilia grunted although she felt him move behind her and wondered what was the matter.
For a moment she wished she had released her anger in her human form for their would be far less damage than during the night...yet stopping before reaching a safe spot would have been stupid.

Louis raised his head, relieved that the journey was soon over. He wanted to lay in cold water, his back was burning like never.

As Kageko rode, she felt no energies. Keeping a mental track of their path, she continued to follow silently from the back.

"We made it sooner than I expected," he said as they came up to a house in the middle of the forest. It was grand and dark looking. he swung off his saddle and said to Emilia, "take him inside, I'll take care of the horses."

Angeles jumped off Alexandria and rushed to Louis, wondering how she had managed to avoid suffering the same way he was. She was not gentle as she took him off his horse and again began to put dirt onto his wound.

Kageko hopped off her own horse and started calculating how far she was from places besides the city. Both this house and her own home lied in the same direction, so her house was considerable closer than the city. With that in mind, the girl could guess fairly well the locations of other key places, such as rivers and such. When she was younger, she had traveled farther than where they were currently at once or twice, but not enough for her to know it as well as the forest that they had left behind.

Emilia jumped down the horse but lost her balance and finished her landing by rolling in order not to hurt herself. She stayed sitting on the floor for a moment, staring at the head still in her hand. She just let the head by the entrance door and went to help Angeles put dirt on Louis's back.

Louis was growling. If the situation had been different Emilia would have laughed at the strange sound coming from the ex-leader but now was not the moment.
He removed his shirt, the back almost sticking to his skin, in a jerky move. The skin of his back was almost all gone, leaving the flesh raw.

Emilia winced at the smell.
"Let's move you inside." she said and lifted the vampire up, her strength already coming back as the last rays of the sun were disappearing.
She dragged Louis to the first bed they found. The vampire sat but refused to lay.
"I just need fresh cold water. Leon!" he called.
"Where is the closest stream?" he asked.

Leon walked back inside after corraling the horses and looked at louis who yelled at him, "my house is connected to the stream, water comes in through taps," he said before moving to go fill a tub with cold water. Angeles was surprised that the ranger had running water in the house, and that it belonged to him. It wasn't a lie though as she soon began to hear the sound of water flowing in one of the room. She turned back to Louis and smacked his hands when he touched his back.

"Stop," she ordered, "or I bind your hands together," she then got to work on making sure there was nothing in the wound and looked at the severity of it. The wound on her shoulder was nothing in comparison.

Letting the vampires quarrel, Emilia left the room to the tub room. She was truly curious and for a moment, she forgot what they had been through.
She raised an eyebrow and smirked at the ranger, her arms crossed across her chest, leaning on the doorframe as he took care of the cold bath.
She looked at him with the corner of her lips raised.

Louis got silent at Leon's answer and even more silent at Angeles's inspection. He also remain immobile.
"So?" he asked as she stared at his back.
As he felt his powers coming back to him, he made a point into calming his thoughts for she would be able to read them.

Leon glanced over at Emilia before returning to look at the water, keeping his fingers in the water to make sure it remained cold. He felt that it had been a disaster, partially because of him being there. He had apparently asked the wrong question when he had asked Louis about his vision.

"Why are you smiling?" he asked with a toneless voice.

"So what?" asked Angeles leaning away from him and turning her back to him, "it looks terrible, what did you think?" she sighed and walked to a wall, taking off her hat so tat she could rest her head against it.

Emilia was about to tease him but his voice froze her. What was she thinking, trying to play smart after what happened?! She grunted.
"Forget it." and left the room and the house.
She grabbed the head with a sigh and walked away.
There was something she had to do.

Louis sighed.
"I don't know, that I was just out of practice...?" he offered trying to lighten the mood.
But his face was not joking, it was dark and pained.
"It should have been me...not one of them..." he whispered.

Kageko, meanwhile, had gone off to exploring the house and surroundings by herself and, preferably, far away from Emilia. She was still afraid that the aura that the werewolf had shown when they were escaping would return with a vengeance.

Angeles reached over and grabbed a candlestick from the table next to her and threw it at Louis' head, "don't think like that," she said darkly, "regret is not going to help you or anyone else now, and if you dwell in it you will die, and then what use would you be?" that was the asme mentality, that got her over her husband's death. She glowered at him for a moment longer before Leon called to her.

"Bring him," was all he said, seemingly uneffected by Emilia leaving him. Angeles walked over and lifted him up, holding back on being gentle as she led him to the room and all but threw him into the tub of water before walking out and away. Leon watched her go then looked to Louis with a questioning gaze.

Louis raised an apologizing smile at Angeles, just in time to catch the candle before it hit his face.
"You're right Angeles." he said.
Yet he was not prepared for her 'gentleness' and he winced when she threw him in the tub.
The vampire looked up at the ranger, pinching his lips. He noticed that Emilia was also out of sight and he felt a bubble of laughter come up his throat. A laughter which turned in a sob which he hid by splashing the water across his face.
"Leave me, Leon, will you? I'll be fine." he said in a low sigh.

Emilia walked until the sun was totally out. Then she undressed, putting her clothing aside and turned at once, letting her feelings and emotions rushed to her as she let out a long howl, mix of sorrow, pain and rage. She did not care if anyone would hear. She let the howl echoed in the mountains before looking at the head of Charles.
