Ooh update!

I've just watched:
- Clockwork Orange (very weird but very strong in terms of message and potrayal. definitely a classic. and a must watch if you're starting out to appreciate classic films)

- Soylent Green (i watched this then researched on it and found out that it was really a trendsetter in terms of messages. if you haven't watched it, you definitely should. what if the world becomes so overpopulated and ran out of food? what will happen then...)

-The Gods Must Be Crazy (still hilarious every time i watch it...)

- The Day the Earth Stood Still, 1950's (kinda like the remake but i really like the original one better.)

Thanks for the films! Keep them coming! I'm trying to squeeze time to watch them all. 3nodding

Ooooh! One of my fave subjects. Classic movies. I have tons I can suggest. Out of over 2300 movies that I have, almost half are from before 1970.

Here's a small (well, not so small) list of some that haven't been mentioned yet.

Jazz Singer (1927) (first "talkie" film ever)
Broadway Melody (1929) (first all talking film and won and Oscar)
Show Boat (any of the 3 versions)
Anna Christie
Dracula (1931)
42nd Street
Dinner at Eight
Flying Down to Rio
Imitation of Life (either version)
It Happened One Night
Top Hat
Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936)
San Francisco (1936)
The Life of Emile Zola
Topper
Room Service
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
The Women (1939)
Broadway Melody of 1940
Kitty Foyle
Buck Privates (1941)
Here Comes Mr. Jordan
Maltese Falcon
Road to Zanzibar (first of the "Road To" Series with Bob Hope and Bing Crosby)
My Sister Eileen (42)
Pride of the Yankees
Road to Morocco (best of the "Road To" series)
Yankee Doodle Dandy
Arsenic and Old Lace
Anchors Aweigh
Down to Earth (1946)
Magnificent Doll
Bishop's Wife
Ghost & Mrs. Muir
Anna Karenina
Easter Parade
Key Largo
Miracle of the Bells
Adam's Rib
Holiday Affair (1949)
I Was a Male War Bride
Inspector General
Miss Grant Takes Richmond
Cheaper by the Dozen (1950)
Summer Stock
Monkey Business (52)
Singin' In The Rain
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes
How to Marry a Millionaire
Going My Way
Phffft!
A Star is Born (both versions)
My Sister Eileen (either version)
High Society
Desk Set
Operation Petticoat
The Apartment
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Judgment at Nuremburg
Lawrence of Arabia
Irma LaDouce
It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World
Lilies of the Field
My Fair Lady
Unsinkable Molly Brown
Doctor Zhivago
The Fortune Cookie
Guess Who's Coming to Dinner
12 Angry Men
Sunset Blvd.
To Kill a Mockingbird
The African Queen
A Streetcar Named Desire

Citizen Kane (considered the greatest classic movie of all time. I didn't like it though)

This list should last you a while. smile
If you have access to TCM, watch it for a lot of great classics. smile

Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, Breakfast at Tiffany's, My Fair Lady, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, How to Marry a Millionaire, The Maltese Falcon, Key Largo, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?~ ~ ~ ~ All classic films with great stars (Bogey, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe) More "recent" classics, I would have to suggest Clash of the Titans (circa 1981), On Golden Pond (weepy, but stylish), or even for a laugh try any of the National Lampoon Vacations (European vacation is my fave; my bestie loves Christmas)- Chevy Chase is a comedic diety. Of course you can't rule out anything John Candy did (Uncle Buck; The Great Outdoors; Planes, Trains, and Automobiles) Geesh, I think I'm going to watch a film now! Hope this helped

Any and all of the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies! When I was little my mom introduced them to me on late night movie theater when I was home sick with the flu and I fell in love! All the Topper movies are great too! The Ghost and Mr. Chicken and any Doris Day movie! That's all a good mix of b/w and color! smile Oh, A Patch of Blue with Sydney Poiter (sp?) and Guess Who's Coming to Dinner! Those are must sees. smile

If you like sorta scary and mysterious, I actually like the old Vincent Price or Alfred Hitchcock movies. I used to watch the old B/W scary movies with my mom when I was a weeee kid. Gosh, those were the days. mrgreen wink

Now if you want something a bit more suttle.....hhhhmmmm....The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Abbot and Costello movies, the Three Stooges (I personally can't stand them, but they sorta stick with ya over the yrs), The Glass Menagerie. I'm sure there are others, but I was more of a horror fan. burning_eyes biggrin
