I like lots of different music. I was way into New Wave back when I was younger (did I just date myself here??) and I was a total Durannie. (It's kinda shameful to say this now... sigh.) I suppose I've always liked English music more than any other kind. Not traditional music, but English bands. The Cure, The The, The Smiths, Paul Weller, Style Council, Depeche Mode, China Crisis, The Fixx, The Psychedelic Furs, Madness, The Specials AKA, Oingo Boingo, Roxy Music, Talking Heads, Peter Gabriel, Alison Moyet, and Eurythmics. I also love soul and funk, mostly Ray Charles, Stevie Wonder, Sly and The Family Stone, The Gap Band, Earth Wind and Fire.. But I like rap too. As for current stuff, I love the Foo Fighters, Dave Mathews, Blue Man Group, Cake and Paul Oakenfold. I grew up around musicians and my mom was pretty progressive in terms of music back in the 70's. The only music I really don't care for is country and metal.

Ah yes, music...most of my life, in other words.
My favorite kind of music is that which is not quite "rock/pop", yet not quite classical. My least favorite is rap, followed by country. (I can hardly stand it!)
And by the way, I'm a musician, singer, and composer. 3nodding

Music is my life, my breath, and my religion. I'm consumed by it. My favorite genre is Rock, Alternative, and Contemporary. I also have a fetish for Broadway show tunes.
It's sad. So many musicians and music listeners today are losing touch with where we came from. I think if more poeple listened to any kind of Oldies (like, for example, if radio stations started playing a handful of old songs mixed among the newer), we'd probably have positive outcomes.

Too many musicians and music listeners listen to people like you and that is the problem with modern music. People feel it's necessary to replicate the past or quote it (musically). As a musician I hate people who listen to music by chronological generalizations and it is a fact that older music (mainly contemporary) is less sophisticated, less produced, less individual and less interesting. Music should be considered an ever developing form of art and I am offended by your moronic statements.
Yours truly, Amber's Slave and Lover.

I'm a very big music fan, but country is certainly my favourite of any of the genres. A good 90% of the music I listen to would be country and I am often on my way to one country concert/festival or another. Really, though, I don't know what I'd do without having music around.

Music is one of the biggest parts of my life, and in almost activity I do, I'm listening to it heart
My favorite genre is rock, but as far as subgenres go, my favorites are indie, old school punk and eighties.
I don't really favor hip hop or anything extremely emo, it actually ends up making me angry xp
my all-time favorite bands are the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and the Dead Kennedys.
For the Dead Kennedys, it's more for their music, but YYYs' lyrics are phenomenal. They use metaphors for everything which really keeps you guessing on what she's trying to say and paint the weirdest pictures in your head.

I'd have to say that my favorite genre of music is classical, while my favorite song is the Adagio by Albinoni. I also like Broadway (Ave Q, RENT, Wicked, Pippin), and Rock, namely, Staind. Yeah... Staind is teh sex. (apologies for the use of bad grammar, it's just that good.)
I have to say that i was a little disappointed by the lack of classical music in the poll, though.

I enjoy a wide variety of music ranging from favorites like George Benson and the Rippingtons smooth jazz to AFI or Breaking Benjamin punk or alternative. I also enjoy the older rock of the seventies, like the Doobie Brothers, the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd or Bob Seger. For the eighties, I loved Huey Lewis, Brian Adams and ZZ Top. I even enjoy ligher classical music. I also love my kids marching band shows. heart
What I just cannot stand to listen to is rap/hip hop or country. razz I cannot get past the anger without articulation or overt degradation of women. However, I don't mind Linkin Park, without JayZ, of course, because they can actually say exactly how they feel with a level of intelligence and without cuss words. Their music served a purpose when I was going through some hard times. evil Country usually sounds too much like whining set to music. I never really liked many country artists, just an occasional crossover to pop music when appropriate.

I really like rock and SOME emo/screamo/powerpop. I'm not one of those pre-pubescent typical Gain The Used/My Chemical Romance fans, though.

I don't hate rap I just dislike the way that today's rap artist do rap, they basically say commit crimes and call a girl this and that. It's degrading, and what makes it worse is that you have our young ladies dancing to it and basically condoning it, saying "It's okay to call me a b%$#@, I don't mind being called a h*&." that's basically what's going on. I've only heard a few rap songs that don't have that kind of vibe to it, and the vast majority of those songs came from Kanye West. He's and uplifting rapper who states truth within the African-American & Christian community. That's my insight on rap music. I don't listen to those "gangsta" rappers just the ones that are good, uplifting rap artist, I also listen to R&B, Rock, and Country, really I'll listen to any type of music as long as I like what they're saying.

I must say, the only genres I completely oppose and pretty much despise are Rap and Country. Rap because the lyrics are just illiterate buckets of trash, for lack of a better phrase. =/ And country because I've just never liked the sound of country music. Really, it hurts my ears. =o Other than that I'll listen to pretty much any shade of rock, really, any other genre than the ones priorly listed. My favorites have got to me Rock and Techno. Rock including punk, metal, general rock, some pop rock, some alternative and any other mini-genre I'm forgetting. The only sort of rock I won't give even a chance to is bands like Blink 182, Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, and so on. Sorry, but I'm not interested in hearing about the singers latest break up or sexual escapades, as those bands seem to rant about. The way I see, those bands are an insult to rock and all it's ever stood for. Rock isn't about your love life, it's about finding things to critisize in the world around you and the government, of course!
