Born and raised a viking. By their standards, his upbringing was often typical. As a cub he was known to be enthusiastic, but not cruel. When Kondo was a juvenile his father, a captain, lost one of his reavers in battle. The orphaned daughters were brought to their den to be cared for.
Kondo became a reaver young, serving under his father. He married around the same age to the eldest of the late lion's daughters. Overtime, his skin grew thicker, heart grew colder, and patience became less and less of a resource.
When his father died, Kondo was elected to replace him. His meek wife became pregnant shortly thereafter and died in childbirth, leaving behind three stillborn females and one sickly male. The outraged captain made quite a scene and prompted rumors he had killed his daughters, some even say his wife. However, his son was spared. Sort of. After the cub learned to walk and speak, he was tossed to the rogues. Kondo returned to his role as captain and became more vicious than ever.
He eventually remarried to his late wife's sister, Freyja, and reunited with his son, Meshindi, who now serves under him.

Kondo has many scars and bruises at any given time. His coat is not well-kept most days. He is muscular and, despite only being slightly larger than an average rogue, intimidating in stature.

Rumors about Kondo have been distorted through the game of telephone tag. Some believe he killed both his daughters and his wife. Some say only one or the other. The number of daughters varies. Some believe he did nothing.
Kondo is a very, very outspoken bigot, even before Njal's rule. He does not allow female reavers in his group and lashes out at thralls without warning, specifically non-lions.

As Shula was growing up, the Nergui were just starting to mark themselves as a threat to the Firekin. Her only known friend was a lion named Kerra, and any time not at his side was spent appeasing her parents, sleeping, eating, or honing her skills to become a guard. More than once she was overheard declaring Azar'bijan as her future mentor and, true to her word, she was eventually trained by the Corporal.
Shula maintained her stolid disposition into adulthood and seems to take her work very seriously.

Shula keeps herself presentable but does not strive for any physical beauty. She has various scars, cuts, and bruises at any given time from her daily training routines.

Even into adulthood, one could argue Shula's only friend is her fellow guard, Kerra, with whom she spent the majority of her childhood. Passerby seemed to think she was bossing him around more often than not.
Shula started to train for her rank at a very young age and was often vocal about Azar'bijan's role as her future mentor. As an adult, she is a superb guard and found training daily.
