Which is odd because the majority of x-ians are of Protestant backing in the States. Thus they are Orange Irish and not Green Irish.

My theory is that it is related to Lent. I assume people had to give up drinking. Somehow this holiday was given attention and that it needed to be celebrated in stereotypical Irish style: alcohol all day. So it gave the people who were forced to abstain a reason to drink. And heck a reason to drink makes many happy. Even though it makes them STUPID AND THEY STAND IN LARGE GROUPS CONVERSING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD...and I cannot mow them down.

Then again when looking at holidays look at Christmas, or Valentines day... none of them are true to what the holidays started out as. (V-day being my favorite one)

Yes and it is a LONG story revolving around the old Holy Roman Empire, the formation of the British Anglican Church and British Imperialism among other things.

And as much as I love historical discussions, I am lazy.

I'm in the exchange looking for something good. And I should be drawing. I plan on doing a bunch of free avvie arts for my friends and hen taking it to the art shops and use them as samples. See if I can try a hand at making money with my art.

I would say they were off getting drunk in honor of a previously mentioned holiday... but a majority of the guild is to young to drink so I dunno... I know Gaia keeps not working right tonight...
